ABOUT. 1913 1950s 1959 1968 2000s 2017 In 1913 - a young cycling enthusiast, William Morris, made a decision to establish a car plant in the Cowley area of Oxford. The first car to be produced was a twoseater Morris Oxford in 1913, assembled on a stationary production line, which became known as the Bullnose Morris. In the 1950s, Morris Oxford factories produced a wide variety of models, including the Morris Minor, as post-war demand for cars rapidly grew around the world. The model that was to make the biggest impact on the British motor industry was the classic Mini, designed by Sir Alec Issigonis (pictured). The first Mini rolled off the production line on 8 May 1959. Between 1959 and 1968, 602,817 Minis were manufactured at plant Oxford, with a peak output of 94,889 cars during 1966/67. Today each MINI is manufactured to individual customer specifications and around 1,000 MINIs leave the plant s assembly line each day, off to meet new owners in more than 110 countries around the world. Since production of new MINI started in 2001, more than 3 million cars have been made at Plant Oxford. But the plant s heritage goes back much further than that - it is a site with more than 100 years of automotive manufacturing history, which has become a landmark in the city of dreaming spires.
EVENTS. AT MINI PLANT OXFORD. Our events space is located in one of the plant s original assembly halls, offering a unique venue for your event. Whilst the location may be rich in history our events space is fitted with modern audio visual equipment available for your use. Our audio visual and presentation facilities are listed below: 3 projectors & screens presentation PC comfort monitor PA system & sound desk 3 handheld microphones 2 headset microphones 8 magnetic whiteboards 7.5m x 5m stage + lectern The events team will assist you to set up the facility s AV systems and will give you a comprehensive induction on how to operate it. We can also arrange technical support for the time of your event should you require. You are welcome to use any furniture held on site and we assist you in hiring any additional equipment you may need for your event. HOST SUPPORT. We can provide a host for your event to support you throughout the day. Host support can be booked for half a day or a full day. Should you wish to hire more than one host, please get in touch with the events team. For any event with over 60 delegates one of our event hosts will be required.
ROOM HIRE. PLANT TOURS. As part of your event at MINI Plant Oxford, a tour of the plant can also be arranged. Gain insight into the automotive production during a guided plant tour. Experience the production of MINIs, from the welding of steel parts into car bodies to the individual interior equipment in the assembly.
