Contact details are provided on the back cover of this guide and also at www.diginet.net.au 4. Product summary An efficient, high quality, Australian designed LED driver capable of delivering constant current between 650mA and 1000mA in 50mA incremental, manually selectable steps, at 12Vdc to 24Vdc. The driver is designed for use in general lighting applications such as downlights, spot/accent luminaires and linear LED lighting systems. The driver is pre-terminated with an Australian/NZ 240Vac 10A mains rated flex and plug. The driver includes a 4-pin connector for connecting a Gerard Lighting 4-pin LED lamp. The unit also provides an additional dc output with screw terminals for use with 3rd party LED Lamps. A set of onboard DIP switches provide the ability to set the output current from 650mA up to 1000mA in 50mA incremental steps. The driver is compatible with most phase control dimmers. 5. Product capabilities The LED driver is designed for easy installation, long lifetime and high efficiency. Smooth dimming from 1% - 100% is provided by using a standard phase angle controlled dimmer connected to the mains input of the driver. Leading edge dimmers, universal dimmers and trailing edge dimmers are all compatible with the driver. The dc output from the driver includes open circuit / short circuit detection. The driver automatically recovers from dc output open circuit and short circuit conditions. The driver is compatible with Gerard Lighting LED lamps, including Sunset Dim LED lamps and Constant Colour LED lamps. When used in conjunction with Gerard Lighting LED lamps, an active thermal wind-back feature is provided to protect against LED damage due to overheating. 3rd party LED lamps with the appropriate specifications can also be used in conjunction with this driver. A separate terminal block is provided for connecting 3rd party lamps (see Section 10 for further details). 4

6. Mounting the driver The driver is supplied with a tool-removable mains terminal cover with built-in cable clamps for strain relief. It is therefore suitable for installation outside a luminaire, as well as inside a luminaire. The driver is suitable for mounting in a variety of indoor locations, including above suspended tile ceilings and fixed plasterboard ceilings, as well as inside luminaires and linear lighting systems. The driver has an ingress protection rating of IP20 and as such is not protected against moisture ingress. It is therefore not suitable for mounting in an outdoor environment without being housed in a suitable weatherproof enclosure. The driver includes a fixing hole adjacent to the LED dc supply cable. This is used for anchoring the driver in a suitable location, typically using a fixing screw or cable tie. Figure 1 Fixing hole for anchoring the Diginet LED Driver When installed, the driver should not be covered. A minimum clearance of 25mm from insulation or combustible material is required. The maximum recommended ambient operating temperature and maximum recommended case temperature must not be exceeded during product operation. 7. Setting the dc output current The output current of the driver is selectable via a series of DIP switches, accessible from the front of the driver. When used to drive Gerard Lighting 4-pin LED lamps, the driver is set to automatic mode and the optimal output current required to drive the connected LED lamp will be selected automatically by the driver. When the driver is connected to 3rd party LED lamps, the required dc output current must be selected manually by the installer using the appropriate DIP switch setting. The DIP switch setting depends on the drive current requirement of specific 3rd party LED lamps. For DIP switch settings, see Section 8. 5

8. DIP switch settings A series of DIP Switches is incorporated on the driver to allow the installer to set the unit for the various output current configurations as shown in the table below. See Section 7 for the DIP switch location. Constant Current Output DIP Switch Setting Manual / Automatic current setting All Diginet DigiSet 2 compatible 4- wire lamps Automatic mode. This setting is for Diginet DigiSet compatible 4-wire lamps only 650mA 700mA 750mA 800mA 850mA 900mA 1 950mA 1 1000mA 1 1 Where LED load voltage 21V and the selected current exceeds 850mA, an internal override operates to limit output current to 850mA. 2 The Diginet DigiSet features in Diginet 4-wire LED lamps enables automatic current setting between Diginet LED lamps and drivers. 6

9. Connecting a Gerard Lighting 4-pin LED lamp to the driver Gerard Lighting 4-pin LED lamps are connected to the driver via a pre-terminated connection lead, with a 4-pin connector on each end for quick and easy connection to both the lamp and driver. This lead is available as an optional accessory from Diginet (item number DGLCLDL4F4F6C) it is not supplied with the driver. Figure 2 - Connecting a Gerard Lighting 4-pin LED lamp to the Driver 10. Connecting a two-wire 3rd party LED lamp to the driver A separate terminal block is provided specifically for connecting suitable 3rd party LED lamps. Figure 3 - Connecting a 3rd party two wire LED lamp to a Diginet LED Driver Before connecting the driver to 3rd party LED lamp(s), the installer must ensure that the LED lamp specifications are compatible with the driver specifications and that the appropriate dc output is selected via the DIP switches. Connecting incompatible 3rd party LED lamp(s) to the driver or selecting an incorrect dc output is likely to cause damage to the LED lamp(s). When used with 3rd party LED lamps, the driver does not provide active thermal wind-back. This feature is only available when the driver is used in conjunction with Gerard Lighting LED lamps. 7

11. Using a dimmer to control the connected LED lamp dimming level The driver can be used in conjunction with a standard phase angle controlled dimmer to dim LED lamps. The dimmer is connected to the 240Vac mains input of the driver, as shown below. Leading edge, universal and trailing edge phase controlled dimmers are all compatible with the driver. Figure 4 Using a leading edge, universal or trailing edge dimmer in conjunction with the driver Minimum number of drivers connected to a Leading Edge Dimmer The minimum number of drivers which can be connected to a specific leading edge dimmer and provide satisfactory dimming performance is dependent on the minimum load rating of the connected leading edge dimmer. Diginet have carried out dimming performance testing of 3rd party manufacturers dimmers when used in conjunction with this driver. Contact Diginet or visit www.diginet.net.au for further information. Diginet also provide the following general guidelines on the minimum number of drivers required to be connected to a 3rd party leading edge dimmer to ensure satisfactory dimming performance. If the leading edge dimmer being used in conjunction with the driver has a low minimum load rating specified by the manufacture ( 15W) and the connected LED lamp power is 8W, the lamp will probably dim satisfactorily with a minimum of one driver connected. However, performance with a specific dimmer should still be verified by the installer. If the leading edge dimmer being used in conjunction with the driver has a high minimum load rating specified by the manufacture ( 40W), several drivers will be needed to achieve satisfactory dimming performance. The actual quantity of drivers required for a specific dimmer should be verified by the installer. Maximum number of drivers connected to a Leading Edge Dimmer The maximum number of drivers which can be connected to a leading edge dimmer is dependent on the dimmer. Diginet have carried out testing to determine the maximum number of drivers which can be used in conjunction with specific 3rd party manufacturers dimmers. Contact Diginet or visit www.diginet.net.au for further information. The limitations described above for leading edge dimmers do not generally apply to trailing edge or universal dimmers used in conjunction with the driver. Generally, a minimum of one trailing edge / universal dimmer can be used with one driver to achieve satisfactory dimming performance and the dimmer can be loaded to its full load capacity. 8
