TUGNOLOGY 13 After three hugely successful Tugnology events, in Southampton in 2007 (180 delegates), Amsterdam in 2009 (274 delegates) and Antwerp in 2011 (305 delegates) we feel justifiably proud of our two-day, no frills conferences dealing solely with tugs. Feedback from those previous events tells us that the hands-on, nuts-and-bolts focus of the papers, and the lively forum sessions, have proved extremely popular with delegates. The immensely useful information and interaction they provide, together with the extensive networking opportunities at the event, have been shown to drive forward both business relationships and key elements of the development of our industry. The subject areas in this year s papers reflect the core values of the Tugnology concept the new technology that is driving the industry forwards, and the key issues affecting tug operation worldwide. Hence, we will look both to the near-future, with in-depth examination of all-electric hybrid propulsion, hybrid power plant design, remote monitoring and high-speed natural gas engines, and find new insights into long-standing issues such as tug stability, AHTS and DP training challenges, the total cost of ownership and rope-handling. CONFERENCE On the opposite page, you will find a selection of the excellent papers to be presented at the conference: papers which draw on the knowledge, experience and research of the luminaries of our industry. During the conference sessions, the emphasis is very much on discussion and to this end, pre-prints of the majority of papers are made available via our website to registered delegates two weeks prior to the start of the conference so they can prepare questions. Delegates can then print out hard copies of the papers of most interest to them. Complete folders containing all the papers will be supplied when delegates register and collect their name badge at the event. Alternate sessions of the conference will be chaired by Mike Allen, long-standing ITS Convention chairman, and Dawn Gorman, editor of the industry s leading magazine International Tug & OSV. The conference will be officially opened by a representative from the British Tugowners Association, who will also deliver the Inaugural paper. The dinner on Tuesday 14 th May will take place at the Britannia International Hotel and Damen has kindly agreed to sponsor this. A cocktail reception, sponsored by Samson, will take place prior to the dinner. TABLE TOP EXHIBITS There are a limited number of table top display spaces available on the conference level of the hotel in between the conference and lunch room. They are ideal for displaying your company literature or showing a video during the coffee, lunch and tea breaks. The tables measure 180cm x 90cm and come with a table cloth, two chairs and a name sign identifying your company. Tables are only 800 (plus VAT @ 20%) each and early booking is recommended. Please indicate your requirements on the Delegate Registration Form (floorplan on reverse). Should you require more space, please let us know as we may be able to alter the floorplan accordingly. Please note that these table top display areas are only available to registered delegates. VENUE The conference will take place at the Britannia International Hotel, Canary Wharf, London, E14. Set in the financial heart of this historic city, the hotel boasts a well-equipped health club and complimentary WiFi for all guests. It benefits from the city s excellent public transport system, with the O2 Arena, Greenwich and the West End of London all within easy reach, as well as straightforward Tube and light railway connections to both Waterloo and Paddington railway stations.
