.0 INTRODUCTION The MIW-20 scales are precision medical scales specially designed to weigh babies on a cradle. The scale has a capacity of 20 kg and readability of 0.01 kg. The scale displays the weight in kilograms or pounds. The scale is fast, accurate and simple to use. It operates using an internal alkaline battery (PP3, 9V) supplied as standard with the scale. It has HOLD function to lock the display until the operator releases it. Automatic turn off feature after 30 seconds is available to maximise the battery life. Filters are optimised for weighing active babies. Adam Equipment Company 2004 2

.0 LOCATING THE SCALE Place the scale on a stable surface. A soft and uneven floor (e.g. carpet, linoleum) could cause an erroneous weight reading. The ambient temperature of the scale should be kept as constant as possible. Do not place the scale where it may be subjected to draughts or heater and direct sunlight. It is advisable not to place the scale near windows, air conditioning vents or radiators. The scale should be placed in a location where it is not likely to be damaged by accidentally dropping heavy weights or moisture on to the scale. The weighing area should be kept clean. Clean the scale with a damp cloth whenever necessary. The bottom of the scale should be cleaned with a dry cloth only. Never use chemical or abrasive products. It is a precision scale and all care should be taken to protect the scale from vibration, humidity, temperature variations and dust. 4.0 SETTING UP THE SCALE The MIW-20 comes with an internal alkaline battery supplied as standard with the scale. Install the battery by removing the battery cover located at the bottom of the main unit. After connecting the battery, it is to be inserted in the socket provided at the back of the battery cover and then place the cover back in its original position. There is no assembly necessary, simply press the [ON/OFF/TARE] key. Adam Equipment Company 2004 4

.0 KEY DESCRIPTIONS [ON / OFF/TARE] [UNIT] Turns the scale on or off (keep it pressed for 3 seconds). Sets a zero condition when the platform is empty. Sets the display to zero by storing the current weight in the memory to tare the scale. Sets the Units. [HOLD] Holds the average display value. 6.0 OPERATIONS To start weighing, turn the scale on using the [ON/OFF/TARE] key. It displays 0000 first. If the chosen unit of weight is Kilogram, next it displays 0.00 with a triangle at the top left of the display. If the display shows 0: 0 with a triangle at the bottom left of the display, the unit is in pounds and ounces. Adam Equipment Company 2004 5

To zero the display, press the [ON/OFF/TARE] key. In practice when the scale is turned on, the [ON/OFF/TARE] key is pressed to zero the display, if necessary. After the display is at zero, place the baby to be weighed on the cradle of the scale. The display will show the weight in the chosen unit. If necessary the weight of blankets or pillows can be accounted for, by placing those on the cradle first and pressing the [ON/OFF/TARE] key to zero the display. Then the baby to be weighed can be placed on the cradle. The display will show the weight of the baby without the added weight of the blankets or pillows. 7.0 SELECTION OF UNITS Turn the scale on by pressing [ON/OFF/TARE]. Press the [UNIT] key to toggle between Kilograms and Pounds. If the chosen unit of weight is Kilogram, next it displays 0.00 with a triangle at the left top of the display. If the display shows 0: 0 with a triangle at the left bottom of the display, the unit is in pounds and ounces. Adam Equipment Company 2004 6

.0 HOLD FUNCTION Due to the baby s movement, the weight shown on the display will change all the time. After the baby is placed on the scale, press [HOLD] to hold the weight value. The display shows hold. The scale will calculate the average of the former weight values taken automatically. The display will be locked when the [HOLD] key is pressed. The display will show a flashing symbol at the top of the display indicating the baby s weight is held. The scale will return to normal weighing when the [HOLD] key is pressed a second time or when the display is zeroed or tared with no weight on the scale. 9.0 AUTOMATIC POWER SWITCH OFF The scale is operated using one PP3 9V alkaline battery in the internal battery chamber. The typical battery life is 12 hours. The scale includes the feature to turn the power off after 30 seconds if it is not being used. This helps to maximise the battery life.. If the battery is low on charge, LO will be displayed. The scale will be automatically switched off after 5 minutes. The battery should be replaced by new ones. Do not throw away the discharged battery together with the domestic rubbish. For disposal, take those to the junk battery collector. Contact your supplier for more information. Adam Equipment Company 2004 7

.0 CALIBRATION PROCEDURE Place the scale on a flat platform after inserting a PP3, 9V alkaline battery. Press the [ON/OFF/TARE] key to turn the power ON.
