The end user accepts all responsibility arising from that advice. WARNING If the Protecteat teat sprayer is not cleaned after every use, failures to the pump will not be covered under warranty. Failure to flush clean water through the pump after use will result in pressure switch failing and moisture damage to the motor. 4

INSTALLATION All Models Unpack the sprayer and check the contents. The following parts are included (Some may be packed inside the tank): Tank unit with pump Delivery hose Dropper hose Teat Spray Gun Transformer Parts bag Owner s manual Client Supplied Parts Tank attachment bolts or screws, three required, 8mm recommended. Transformer attachment screws, two required. The Protecteat teat spray system is a manually operated system. Modification to operate in an automatic mode may shorten pump life and will invalidate the warranty. Protecteat Tank Unit and Transformer Locate a convenient position for the tank unit and transformer. Mark the positions for the three tank attachment bolts or screws and the two transformer attachment screws. WARNING To avoid the risk of electric shock the transformer must be located in a dry area. The output cable is 2 metres long to allow the cube to be located high on the wall where the risk of splashing avoided. To avoid premature failure of the pump, do not mount the tank unit where the pump can be splashed with wash down hoses or effluent. The pump is not a sealed unit therefore exposure to direct application of fluid may invalidate the warranty. NOTE For convenience locate the tank at a convenient height for filling through the lid, and to reach inside to remove the suction filter from the bottom of the tank. Carefully screw the tank to the wall. Screw the transformer to the wall. WARNING To avoid damaging the tank, do not over tighten the screws. Delivery Hose Connect the 13mm delivery hose to the hose barb connector on the tank unit. Route the delivery hose through the dairy shed to the area where the dropper is to be used. For optimum performance the 13mm delivery hose must not be shortened. If the full length is not required, make a coil of hose and install it in a convenient position. Shortening the hose may reduce pump life. Connect the 10mm dropper hose to the end of the delivery hose. Attach the spray gun to the dropper hose, and clamp the hose to the gun. Secure all hose connections with the hose clips provided. For fitting of additional Teat Sprayer droppers, see the assembly instruction leaflet supplied with dropper kits. Connect the transformer output cable to the pump cables. 5

Optional Accumulator Kit If the optional accumulator kit is used, attach the accumulator to the wall next to the tank unit outlet hose barb. Connect the accumulator to the hose barb using a short length of 13mm delivery hose. Connect the delivery hose to the accumulator. Optional Dropper Kits If additional droppers are installed, cut the delivery hose at the required positions and insert a tee with dropper at each position. Put water in the tank. Open the recirculating valve. Plug in the transformer and switch it on. The pump will run. TESTING Close the recirculating valve and operate the spray gun on the delivery line until all of the air has left the system. Repeat with each teat gun. When all of the air has left the system and the spray gun valves are closed, the pump will pump up to pressure and stop. Optional Accumulator If the optional accumulator is fitted, operate a teat gun into a measuring jar until the pump begins to run. At least 100ml of fluid should be expelled. If less than the required fluid is dispensed, check the accumulator pressure (Refer maintenance). THEORY OF OPERATION Spray fluid is prepared and placed in the tank via the lid opening and strainer basket. Foreign matter is trapped in the strainer mesh for disposal after the tank has been filled. When the pump is switched on power is applied to the pump motor. When the pump operates, fluid is drawn through a filter element in the bottom of the tank into the pump head. With each rotation of the pump motor, fluid is forced via valves into a high-pressure chamber in the pump head. Fluid exits from the chamber via a check valve into the delivery hose. Providing the delivery hose has an open orifice fluid will flow from the hose. When the delivery hose is opened, the pressure will drop as fluid is dispensed. When the pressure drops to the pump turn on pressure the pump will start to operate. If the optional accumulator is fitted and charged to the correct air pressure (approximately 25 PSI), fluid will be stored under pressure in the accumulator chamber. When the spray gun is operated fluid will be dispensed from the chamber as well as the delivery hose. The additional stored fluid extends reduces the pump duty cycle and allow more cows to be sprayed before the pump needs to operate. 6

Place water in the tank through the strainer basket. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Always use clean water to fill your sprayer. Never use dirty water or water with sand or grit. Take care not to spill water or chemical down the outside of the tank. The pump motor is not sealed and spillage may result in deterioration and premature failure. Measure the required amount of chemical for the water and pour it into the tank through the strainer basket. Take care not to spill water or chemical down the outside of the tank. The pump motor is not sealed and spillage may result in deterioration and premature failure. Wipe any spillage from the outside of the pump as soon as it occurs. Secure the lid on the tank and open the recirculating valve. Switch the transformer on. Allow the pump to operate for several minutes to mix the spray fluid in the tank. Close the recirculating valve. The pump will pump up to pressure then stop. Operate the spray gun trigger. Fluid will be sprayed from the spray tip. CHEMICAL APPLICATION WARNING Mixing chemicals is a most dangerous activity as it involves handling the concentrated material. For toxic compounds, use protective clothing such as overalls, hat, gloves, boots and respirator. When using diluted sprays, wear at least a hat, long-sleeved cotton overalls, and boots. If you use pesticides regularly, it is a good idea to always wear a respirator to avoid accumulation of toxins in the body. Other protection may be required. Check the label for specific directions for the particular chemical. Chemical Advice C-Dax Ltd or their agents cannot make recommendations or give advice as to the use of chemicals and cannot accept responsibility for any damage, injury or other consequence for disregarding this warning notice. Contact your chemical supplier for advice. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE Keep the sprayer in good condition. Cleanliness and maintenance are essential for safe and trouble free operation. When spraying is complete, switch the transformer off and open the recirculation valve to release the pressure from the pump, accumulator and hose. Failure to switch the unit off and release the pressure after each use will shorten pump life. When the spray mix has been used up and the tank is empty (approximately once a week), check the filters in the tank. Remove, clean and replace if necessary. Fill the tank with clean water and allow the unit to operate for several minutes with the recirculation valve open, or operate spray gun back into tank via lid opening. This will rinse the pump. Switch the unit off, open the recirculation valve and allow the unit to stand between milkings with clean water in the pump. Failure to rinse the unit at regular intervals will shorten pump life. 7

Spray Gun Filters Each teat-spray gun has a built-in filter in the tip. It is recommended that the filters be serviced at weekly intervals. Unscrew the cap taking care not to lose the nozzle and swirler plate. Pull the filter out of the elbow unit to clean it. Replace the filter. ADJUSTMENTS Setting the Accumulator Static Pressure For maximum effectiveness the accumulator static pressure must equal the pump switch-on pressure. The pump has been factory set to switch on at 1.5 bar (22 PSI). With the transformer switched off and the recirculating valve turn on, check the accumulator pressure with a tyre gauge. If necessary apply more pressure using a bicycle pump to charge the accumulator to the required pressure. Pump Pressure Switch The pump pressure switch determines the pressure at which the pump will turn off. The switch is factory set to switch off at 2.3 Bar (35 psi). Adjusting the switch to a higher pressure will cause the pump to work harder and therefore reduce pump life. It should not be necessary to adjust the switch unless a replacement switch is fitted. This is best done by a C-Dax service centre. TROUBLESHOOTING C-Dax Ltd and their distributors have a comprehensive parts inventory and capable service staff. Repairs should only be undertaken by C-Dax, or an authorised C-Dax service centre. Under no circumstances should a pump be repaired using other than the specified spare parts kit. Transformer Switch on but pump does not operate 1. Tripped circuit breaker Check wiring and reset the circuit breaker 2. Pressure switch operated Open spray gun valve 3. Pressure switch failed Replace pressure switch 4. Transformer failed Replace transformer Pump runs but does not stop. 1. Spray gun valve open Close valve 2.
