Care must be taken when installing this accessory to ensure damage does not occur to the vehicle. The installation of this accessory should follow approved guidelines to ensure a quality installation These guidelines can be found in the "Accessory Installation Practices" document. This document covers such items as: Vehicle Protection (use of covers and blankets, cleaning chemicals, etc.). Safety (eye protection, rechecking torque procedure, etc.). Vehicle Disassembly/Reassembly (panel removal, part storage, etc.). Electrical Component Disassembly/Reassembly (battery disconnection, connector removal, etc.). 1. Remove Front OE Sway Bar (a) Remove front wheel Manual Trans - driver side wheel. Automatic Trans - passenger side wheel. (b) Disconnect sway bar from end links. (Fig 1-1) 1-1 (c) Remove no. 2 engine under cover. (1) Remove five clips. (Fig 1-2) 1-2 Issue A: 6/16/2011 2 of 8 PPO / DIO
(d) Lower sub-frame assembly 30mm on passenger side. (Automatic Trans Only!) (1) Place adjustable tall stand under front subframe assembly (2) Loosen bolts A showing 5mm of threads on both sides of vehicle. (Fig 1-3) (3) Remove four bolts B. (Fig 1-4) 1-3 (4) Loosen driver side bolts C just enough to remove tension from the sub-frame assembly. (5) Remove passenger side bolts D. 1-4 (6) Lower sub-frame 30mm exposing front bolt of lower control arm. (e) Remove lower control arm. Automatic Trans = Passenger Side Manual Trans = Driver Side (1) Remove two nuts and one bolt from outer portion of lower control arm. (Fig 1-5) 1-5 (2) Pull down arm and dislocate lower ball joint assembly from the arm then allow arm to rise up to a neutral position. Issue A: 6/16/2011 3 of 8 PPO / DIO
(3) Remove two bolts from inner portion of lower control arm. (Fig 1-6) (4) Pull arm from vehicle. 1-6 Passenger Side Driver Side (f) Remove front sway bar straps. (Fig 1-7) HINT: Remove strap opposite of removed suspension arm first. 1-7 (g) Remove front sway bar. (Fig 1-8) 1-8 2. Install TRD front sway bar. (a) Install front stabilizer bar bushings. (1) Apply silicon based grease to inner surface of polyurethane bushing before assembly. NOTICE: Install the front stabilizer bar bushing so that the dust lips face the outside of the vehicle. (Fig 2-1) 2-1 Install the front stabilizer bar bushing so that the cutouts face the rear of the vehicle. Issue A: 6/16/2011 4 of 8 PPO / DIO
(b) Install the front stabilizer bar to the sub-frame assembly in the same position as the OE bar. (c) Install sway bar straps. (Fig 2-2) 2-2 Torque: 87 N m (887 kgf cm, 64ft lbf) HINT: Install strap on removed control arm side of vehicle first. (d) Install lower control arm back into position on the sub-frame assembly. (1) Loosely fasten the two inner bolts. (e) Raise sub-frame back into position. (Automatic Trans Only) (1) Using the adjustable stand raise the subframe to the body of the vehicle. (2) Tighten bolts. (Fig 2-3) Bolt A - Torque: 145 N m (1479 kgf cm, 107ft lbf) 2-3 Bolt B - Torque: 96 N m (979 kgf cm, 71ft lbf) Bolt C - Torque: 93 N m (948 kgf cm, 69ft lbf) (Fig 2-4) 2-4 (f) Tighten inner bolts of lower control arm. (Fig 2-5) (1) Position end of control arm above lower ball joint assembly. The control arm should be horizontal. 2-5 Torque: 233 N m (2376 kgf cm, 172ft lbf) Issue A: 6/16/2011 5 of 8 PPO / DIO
(g) Assemble outer portion of lower control arm to the lower ball joint assembly. (Fig 2-6) Torque: 89 N m (908 kgf cm, 66ft lbf) 2-6 (h) Attach the front stabilizer link assemblies. Torque: 74 N m (755 kgf cm, 55ft lbf) (i) Install no. 2 engine under cover. (1) Attach five clips. (j) Install front wheel assembly. Torque: 103 N m (1050 kgf cm, 76ft lbf) 3. Remove Rear Sway Bar. (a) Remove the 3 bolts and LH member brace from the suspension member. Remove RH member brace as well. (Fig 3-1) 3-1 (b) Remove the rear sway bar link assemblies. (Fig 3-2) (1) Apply light weight oil to threads on lower end of the sway bar link before removing lock nut. 3-2 (c) Remove rear sway bar. (Fig 3-3) (1) Remove the 4 bolts and 2 stabilizer brackets from the suspension member. (2) Momentarily pulling down on exhaust pipe will allow removal of sway bar. 3-3 Issue A: 6/16/2011 6 of 8 PPO / DIO
4. Install TRD Rear Sway Bar. (a) Install rear sway bar bushings. (1) Apply silicon based grease to inside of rear polyurethane bushings. 4-1 (2) Install the 2 rear stabilizer bushings to the rear stabilizer bar on the outside of the bushing stoppers as shown in the illustration. (Fig 4-1) (b) Install rear sway bar. (1) Install the rear stabilizer bar and rear sway bar brackets to the rear suspension member with the 4 bolts. Torque: 78 N m (795 kgf cm, 58ft lbf) (c) Install rear sway bar link assemblies. (1) Install supplied upper polyurethane cushion and cushion retainer to the link assemblies. (Fig 4-2) (2) Temporarily install rear sway bar link to the rear No. 2 suspension arm. (3) Tighten upper nuts. 4-2 Torque: 95 N m (969 kgf cm, 70ft lbf) (4) Tighten lower lock nuts Torque: 30 N m (306 kgf cm, 22ft lbf) (5) Rotate link assembly so that it is parallel to the sway bar end. (Fig 4-3) (6) Install the rear suspension member brace to the rear suspension member with the 3 bolts. 4-3 Torque: 32 N m (326 kgf cm, 24ft lbf) (7) Automatic transmission vehicles will require an alignment.
