Oil, gas and dual fuel burners Burner series 400...2500 ME 1 Oiln il, gas, and dual fuel burners are fully autmatic, safe, and reliable. The fundamentals f the design and manufacturing f the burners are ecnmy, safety, service and envirnmental friendliness. Our gas burners cmply with the standard EN 676, il burners with the standards EN 230 and EN 267, and dual fuel burners with all f these standards. Cnstructin A husing f welded steel sheets with a surface finish with durable, high-glss paint. A remvable cver lcated n tp f the burner makes it easy t carry ut maintenance n the nzzle and ignitin electrdes as this des nt require remval f the burner. The cmbustin head and diffuser disc, which are made frm a stainless steel ally, withstand a temperature f apprx. 1,200 C. The flw f air in the cmbustin head is autmatically cntrlled (ptimisatin f the pressure lss at the cmbustin head) t achieve ptimum cmbustin parameters thrughut the capacity range. The burner cntains a sight glass fr flame bservatin. An air damper assembly n the suctin side f the fan autmatically cntrls, tgether with the servmtr, the fuel and air flws accrding t the required utput. Suitable applicatins The burners are suitable fr warm and ht water bilers, steam bilers, ht air generatrs and varius types f prcess heating equipment. They can be munted in hrizntal, vertical and upward-facing, r vertical and dwnwardfacing rientatin. The structure, materials and enclsure class f the burners require indrs peratin. Fuels Different fuels can be used depending n the burner mdel: KP mdels: -, viscsity 4-12 mm 2 /s, +20 C RP mdels: - heavy fuel il, viscsity max. 250 mm 2 /s, +50 C - heavy fuel il, viscsity max. 450 mm 2 /s, +50 C heating cartridge fr pump and nzzle - heavy fuel il, viscsity max. 650 mm 2 /s, +50 C heating cartridges as abve + trace heating fr the il piping GP mdels: - natural gas, gases f 2nd family, grups H and E (equipment categry I 2R ) GKP and GRP dual fuel burners: - fuel prperties as abve, natural gas/ - fuel prperties as abve, natural gas/heavy fuel il Burners using ther fuels are available n request. Capacity regulatin methds All burners are mdulating. They are equipped with an air damper servmtr with a transitin time f 60 s/90. The servmtr is cnnected t the il regulatr and cmpund regulatr via an axle. The burner perates n the entire capacity range accrding t the lad. The burners are cntrlled accrding t the flue gas analysis. Bster unit PKYK fr The mdels KP and GKP are equipped with a separate bster unit, which includes an il filter and a bster pump with cmplete piping. Bster unit PKYR fr heavy fuel il The mdels RP and GRP are equipped with a separate preheater and bster unit, which cmprises an il filter, bster pump and an electric mass preheater. The preheater is made frm a cast aluminium ally, and includes embedded il piping and electric resistance cils. The capacity f ne preheater is 6 kw. The preheater is cntrlled by slid-state relays and by an electrnic regulatr, which keeps the il temperature stable. A stable il temperature helps t ensure that the il mixes adequately with the cmbustin air, helping t btain ptimal cmbustin parameters. Depending n the mdel, the PKYR may have three r mre preheating units. In the heavy il burners, the il heated during the prepurge phase flws t the nzzle thrugh the preheater t ensure that the il temperature is high enugh in the nzzle during the ignitin phase. Gas equipment The gas-related cmpnents f the gas and dual fuel burners cmply with the standard EN 676: tw shut-ff valves, pressure switches (min./max.) and an autmatic valve leak tester. Other piping-related equipment is available n request. Oil piping The il piping is installed mainly in the burner, and includes three slenid valves. The il regulatr is lcated n the il line returning frm the nzzle. The piping between the burner and the PKYK/PKYR is t be built n site. Flame mnitring All mdels are equipped with autmatic flame mnitring. In KP and RP mdels, flame mnitring is carried ut by a phtcell; in GP, GKP, and GRP mdels, it is carried ut by an UV cell. Cntrl devices The burner cntrl autmatics are assembled in a separate cntrl cabinet, which cntains a cntrl unit, signal lamps, the capacity cntrller and perating switches. The cntrl unit autmatically carries ut all the functin phases f the burner. In the event f a burner failure, the system autmatically stps the burner. The mdulating burners als incrprate a pre-installed capacity cntrller. If required, the burner can als be supplied with electrnic fuel/air rati cntrl at an added cst. Accessries Each f the fuel cntrl valves and the air damper may be equipped with a servmtr (electrnic fuel/air rati cntrl). An air distributin bx shuld be installed under the burner, in case f air duct cannt be installed vertically (length f straight vertical part shuld be at least 1.5 m) under the burner. We reserve the right t make technical alteratins.

Hw t chse a burner A. Prcedure 1 Establish relevant biler and applicatin infrmatin biler capacity and efficiency, r required burner capacity back pressure f the furnace fuel(s) t be used fuel inlet pressure t the burner capacity regulatin methd f the burner 2 Calculate the burner capacity. Burner capacity = biler capacity/efficiency. Example: biler capacity = 10,000 kw, efficiency = 90 % Burner capacity = 10,000 kw / 0.9 = 11,110 kw. 3 Gas burners: Calculate the required gas flw [m 3 n/h]. The required gas flw [m 3 n/h] = (burner capacity [kw] x 3.6)/the calrific value f the gas [MJ/m 3 n]. Example: the required burner capacity = 11,110 kw the required gas flw = (11,110 kw x 3.6) / 35.8 MJ/m 3 n = 1,117 m 3 n/h, where 35.8 MJ/m 3 n is the calrific value f natural gas. Oil burners: Calculate the required il flw [kg/h]. The required il flw [kg/h] = (burner capacity [kw] x 3.6)/the calrific value f il [MJ/kg]. Example: the required burner capacity = 11,110 kw the required il flw = (11,110 kw x 3.6)/ 40.5 MJ/kg = 988 kg/h, where 40.5 MJ/kg is the calrific value f heavy fuel il. 4 See the brchure fr a burner with a sufficient range f capacity. Example: A burner f 11,110 kw f capacity, firing natural gas and heavy fuel il is needed. The apprpriate burner fr these specificatins is GRP-1000 ME. 5 Calculate the required cmbustin air flw and pressure. Example: the required burner capacity = 11,110 kw, the pressure lss f the biler and chimney at this burner capacity is 15 mbar. Example: The cmbustin air flw required when using natural gas with a flue gas xygen value f 3 % is calculated. T cmbust 1 m 3 n f natural gas t prduce a 3 % xygen cntent in the flue gas, apprximately 11.3 m 3 n f air is required (see diagram 2, page 9). The required cmbustin air flw = 1,117 m 3 n/h x 11.3 m 3 n/m 3 n = 12,620 m 3 n/h. The cmbustin air flw is als t be calculated when using heavy fuel il. T cmbust 1 kg f heavy fuel il prducing a flue gas xygen cntent f 3 %, apprximately 12.4 m 3 n f air is required (see diagram 1, page 9). The required cmbustin air flw = 988 kg/h x 12.4 m 3 n/kg = 12,250 m 3 n/h. The required fan utput is calculated by multiplying the required cmbustin air flw with the safety factr 1.05. The larger figure is selected fr the cmbustin air flw, i.e. 12,620 m 3 n/h, and the fan utput required fr this flw is apprximately 1.05 x 12,620 m 3 n/h = 13,250 m 3 n/h. The required fan pressure is calculated using the max. air flw. The required flw pressure p [mbar] = (the pressure lss generated by the biler and the chimney + the pressure lss f the air ducts + max. pressure lss in the burner, 35 mbar) x safety factr 1.05. Example: The pressure lss generated by the biler and the chimney = 15 mbar, the pressure lss f the air ducts = 5 mbar, max. pressure lss f the burner = 35 mbar. The required fan pressure p = (15 mbar + 5 mbar + 35 mbar) x 1.05 = 58 mbar. A fan applicable in this case has t prduce a flw f apprximately 13,250 m 3 n/h at a pressure f 58 mbar. N.B: The air duct t be cnnected with the burner shuld run directly frm belw the burner, and it shuld be straight fr a distance f n less than 1.5 metres befre the burner. If the duct cannt be installed in this way, an air distributin bx shuld be used. Fr infrmatin n air distributin bxes, see page 9. 6 Gas burners: Frm the selectin table fr gas valves, select a sufficient valve size accrding t the burner capacity. Nte that the values in the selectin table apply when the furnace back pressure is 0 mbar. Therefre yu must subtract the furnace back pressure frm the actual gas inlet pressure, and select the valve accrding t the value thus btained. The ratings shwn in the table apply t natural gas. Example: The gas inlet pressure f the burner = 200 mbar, the biler back pressure = 18 mbar and the required burner capacity = 11,110 kw. The effective pressure is therefre 200 mbar - 18 mbar = 182 mbar. Fr the burner GRP-1000 ME, fr example, a valve generating a capacity f n less than 11,110 kw with a gas inlet pressure f 182 mbar shuld be chsen. The valve DN 80 is selected fr this burner. 7 Oil burners: Select an apprpriate bster unit accrding t the burner capacity. The burners use the mdel PKYK and the heavy fuel il burners PKYR. The bster unit fr is selected using the diagram 3. The bster unit fr heavy fuel il is selected using the diagram 4. Fr burner capacity f 988 kg/h, fr example, the required temperature difference in the bster unit is 45 C. The diagram shws that the apprpriate bster unit is PKYR3. 8 Check that the external dimensins f the burner, particularly the length f the cmbustin head, are suitable fr the applicatin. The cmbustin head length shuld be such that the head is flush with the furnace wall r apprx. 10-20 mm inside the furnace (see Masnry figure ). 9 Check the dimensins f the flame in the flame dimensins diagram. Nte that the flame must nt tuch the furnace walls. 10 D nt frget the accessries: gas pressure regulatr, il pumping and preheating unit, biler thermstats/ pressstats. Our sales department will be happy t help yu with any questins related t burner selectin and peratin. B. Equatins and rules f thumb 1 Burner capacity = biler capacity / 0.9 (when biler efficiency is 90 %) 2 Steam bilers: 1 tn/h steam 700 kw biler capacity 3 Light fuel il: 1 kg/h 11.86 kw burner capacity with calrific value 42.7 MJ/kg 4 Heavy fuel il: 1 kg/h 11.22 kw burner capacity with calrific value 40.5 MJ/kg 5 Natural gas: 1 m 3 n/h 10 kw burner capacity with calrific value 35.84 MJ/m 3 n 6 Oil pumping, filtering, and preheating unit (Oiln Ht- Bx) is required when firing heavy fuel il. When the burner capacity is mre than 2 MW, a transfer pump unit (Oiln SPY) is always needed, even when firing. The required minimum pump utput [kg/h] can be calculated as fllws: Required minimum utput [kg/h] = (il flw t be burned [kg/h] + 150 kg/h) x 1.2. The clause in brackets refers t the preheated il flw t each burner. 2

Burner preheater Accurate temperature cntrl guarantees gd cmbustin In burning heavy fuel il, the right atmising viscsity f the il is essential fr gd cmbustin and lw cmbustin gas emissins. A prerequisite fr stable atmising viscsity is that the il temperature stays stable thrughut the firing rate. 15 Oiln ML mass preheater keeps the il temperature stable even if the incming temperature fluctuates. On accunt f the cnstructin and the electrnic regulatr, the temperature f the il flwing t the nzzle remains stable. The burner may, depending n the capacity and mdel, have ne r mre 6-kW heaters equipped with a safety device t guard against verheating. The electrnic regulatr has an integrated minimum temperature limiter as well; this prevents the burner frm starting if the il is t cld.
