en-gb 2008-05-02 Release notes for Scania Diagnos & Programmer 3, version 1.17 Version 1.17 replaces version 1.16 of the SDP3 program and supports the earlier systems in P,R,T series and K,N series vehicles and industrial and marine engines. The additions to version 1.17 include: Support for new supplementary numbers. Improved and faster function for "Display all fault codes" Better image management Better function for viewing Unknown ECU in the navigation tree Table of contents Release notes for Scania Diagnos & Programmer 3, version 1.17...1 Table of contents...1 Installation...1 Known problems and shortcomings...2 Known problems and shortcomings Industrial and marine...2 If you encounter problems...8 Tips...8 Demo vehicles supplied with SDP3 1.17...10 Installation After the program has been downloaded, SDP3 is installed by double-clicking on the downloaded file. In order to install the SDP3 program, administrator rights are required. Follow the instructions on the screen. On installation you will be prompted to insert the VCI2 and USB key so the installation can check that the correct versions of drivers and firmware (software in VCI2) are being used. When this is done for the first time, the Windows hardware wizard starts. Work through the hardware wizard and then continue with the installation. Select Retry to continue with the installation. SDP3 may require the computer to be restarted after the first part of the installation. After restart, the installation will continue automatically. Scania CV AB 2008 1

Known problems and shortcomings a) There have been instances where the user functions in the user function view in SDP3 have the status unknown or are indicated by a figure. This is because SDP3 has no information about the user function. This information will be constantly updated in SDP3 in future editions. b) If there are inactive fault codes in a system, a warning message will be displayed when entering conversion, indicating that there are active fault codes in the vehicle. c) Exclamation marks may sometimes be displayed for component group C, connectors, and E, electronic control units even though there are no fault codes present in the circuits that are shown in the group. The circuit with the fault code is then always found with exclamation marks under another component group. d) In some cases, implausible values may be displayed, e.g. 102 %. This means that the sensor signal is incorrect or is missing. This applies to all control units except OPC and then it means that kick-down is active. e) In some cases, more circuits are displayed than are actually present on the vehicle. f) Certain parameters are presented differently in the Adjustment tab and the Product information tab. g) When you go into the Adjustment tab, not all adjustable parameters available can be seen. When you click on Edit, the program generates a reading from the vehicle and all parameters are displayed. h) The Product information tab always shows both servers for OPC4 even if only one is active. i) The login for Scania when sending operational data does not handle faults correctly. If you are not sure whether you have the correct authority/password, check that you can log in on the SAIL portal. j) Illustrations in the TPM guides are small until you drag the image with the cursor. The following is applicable to campaign: k) Double dialog boxes pop up if there are any network problems. l) If you have logged on once to Campaign or Inspection and then attempted to communicate via the tunnel again once you have closed the job, SDP3 will hang for a long time and then the operational data/campaign fails. m) If you do not make contact with ICL when linking up to a campaign job, SDP3 warns you that it is not possible to read SOPS from COO. n) If an internal error occurs on the Scania server, SDP3 complains in some situations that the ECU system does not exist in the vehicle. (fault code 1004) o) If you attempt to create a campaign for a vehicle more times than is permitted, SDP3 will issue a warning stating that the ECU system is not present in the vehicle. (fault code 1007) p) If SDP3 or the Scania database has no support for the supplementary number given in a campaign, incorrect dynamic information is given. The supplementary number pointed out is the one in the vehicle. (including fault code 2005) Known problems and shortcomings Industrial and marine a) Industrial and marine applications do not have SOPS, so the warning screen when starting is quite normal and can be ignored. Scania CV AB 2008 2

b) When adjusting parameters, a message box appears instructing you to save and send SOPS to the factory. In the next stage you should cancel saving SOPS, otherwise SDP3 will crash. EMS Engine management system Enhanced support for checks and calibrations. When replacing an engine with a common rail and S7, the injector codes must be transferred to SOPS from the control unit. This function is available under Conversion/S7/Adjustments. The engine should be switched off when adjusting parameters. There is no blocking function for this in the program. Always unlock the engine control unit using SDP3 before removing it from the vehicle. Read status texts and comments to see which functions to choose (click on the line to view the comment). When adjusting parameters, a message may sometimes appear indicating that the set values do not correspond to SOPS. This is not a problem with the vehicle. Remedy: Carry out a normal adjustment of the parameters. On some vehicles T29 is only displayed under circuit C, connectors. COO Coordinator COO7 has SOP 0802 and thus moves the CC manager, including AICC functionality, into the coordinator. Fan control is in rpm instead of % and there are also some new IMMO features. Radio buttons, outdoor temperature, door buttons and seat belt reminder move to ICL. For coordinators manufactured before autumn 2006 or vehicles without a tachograph, the K factor must be set manually via SDP3. Select "Adjusting" and "Setting the K factor". If the coordinator is newer, there are no selection options in the program. For coordinators manufactured later, the K factor is set automatically when driving at a minimum speed of 70 km/h or when the propeller shaft speed exceeds 750 rpm. The current value for the K factor in the coordinator is displayed in the K factor entry box. Support for adjusting the odometer setting is provided under the Adjustment tab. Reading and adjusting odometer settings in COO applies only to Scania HINO and vehicles without TCO. You can now compare the K factor set in the tachograph with the K factor set in the coordinator. Enter User functions / Safety / Speed limiter and select Check. If the coordinator hangs when you are connected to SDP3, this may be because there is a program fault in the control unit. If this happens, you can try switching off the ignition, waiting for a minute and trying again. When changing codes and starter keys for vehicles with enhanced theft protection (starter keys with transponder): first unlock the engine control unit and then unlock the coordinator to unprogrammed status before changing the starter lock. Note: If the vehicle is equipped with an alarm or central locking, LAS and BBS (if fitted) Scania CV AB 2008 3

should be unlocked before unlocking the coordinator and then locked again with the new codes. Read status texts and comments to see which functions to choose (click on the line to view the comment). Before removing a coordinator from the vehicle, it must always be restored to unprogrammed status. LAS and BBS Lock and alarm system When changing codes in the system, BBS should always be unlocked before LAS. Check during all programming that the programming lock is open. If it is locked, it is not possible to program the control unit. The program looks as though it is functioning correctly but it is not and a fault message will appear such as programming failed even though all codes are correct. Also read the comments text under programming lock. ICL Instrument cluster For the stop and flasher signal, the priority sequence is reversed on all buses. This is easy to rectify by selecting spare parts programming under the Adjustment tab in the ICL system. Due to a defect in the software in the ICL control unit, the background lighting is not reset after the lighting has been activated or deactivated using SDP3. Switch the power on and off with the starter key to reset ICL to normal mode. It functions normally from supplementary number 1763535. TCO, Tachograph system Fault code 448 for the digital tachograph has no text. The fault code is a warning that a "vehicle speed violation" will be set in approximately 15 seconds, and does not indicate a fault in the tachograph system. Siemens DTCO 1381 has been introduced. SDP3 will not support the reading of fault codes from this unit. A special after-market tachograph tool must be used for this. Please refer to Siemens Technical Description for DTCO 1381, Chapter 13 Events and Faults for a description of the relevant fault code. ATA, WTA, CTS and AUS Auxiliary heater system, Clock timer system, Radio These components must be switched on in order to be displayed in SDP3. Due to a fault in the software on CTS control units with supplementary numbers 1 547 542 and 1 547 543, SDP3 does not recognise them under certain circumstances and therefore identifies them as unknown. In order to read fault code texts, it is therefore necessary to read the fault code number and then enter the All fault codes menu option and read the fault code text. OPC and RET Gearbox management system In order to run the test for item adaptation of OPC, the system must not be degraded, e.g. the system must not be in Clutch mode. This also means that the Gear change mode parameter must not be set to Activated because this is the same as the system being degraded to Clutch mode. If the test is interrupted, e.g. by depressing the clutch pedal, a dialogue box will appear indicating that the call to the control unit failed. The log file does not have to be forwarded to Scania. Scania CV AB 2008 4

SMS Suspension management system A new weight, 12,350 kg, has been added as an optional parameter for load transfer. Just as for normal buses, buttons are now available for articulated buses in the program for raising and lowering the vehicle when calibrating drive levels. To enable the ELC control unit to work correctly after calibration or after adjusting customer parameters, the tag axle lift button (if fitted on the vehicle) should be switched on and off after exiting SDP3. Then switch the start voltage off and on. The new overview of the control unit does not show a number of connections. This applies in particular to those sensors which have a common system earth or common power supply. When in doubt, refer to the SMS wiring diagram. If there are calibration problems, check that the calibration conditions have been met. During level calibrations: check that the sensors are working correctly and emitting signals. Enter the Check tab and select level sensor, raise and lower the vehicle to make sure that the values have been changed. For trucks with full air suspension a parameter is added where it is possible to change the permitted level difference between the front and the rear axles in the case of manual level adjustment. APS Air processing system By spare parts programming the APS, the time it takes before fault code APS 727 is set can be extended. BWS Body work system The existing circuits have been divided up into smaller sub-circuits. Each circuit has a serial number linked to it (e.g. C259-1). This is not a connection to the pins included in the sub-circuit. The parameters below have had their designations and/or descriptions amended to better reflect what is intended. Now it is possible to execute the activation of signals linked to signals 18 to 21. BCS Bus chassis system A new function parameter has been added: Alcolock. New fault code 0018, parking brake. A new function parameter has been added: Battery Switch Warning. EBS Brake management system For control units with supplementary numbers 1541729 and 1541730, the retarder lever must be set to position zero for the EBS control unit to respond. This also applies to spare parts programming and adjustment of parameters, because the EBS control unit will be damaged unless the retarder lever is in the 0 position. The retarder lever must be in the 0 position for other supplementary numbers too, for spare parts programming and adjustment of parameters. The control units will not be damaged, but it is possible that this measure will not be successful. In order to be able to adjust the parameter Complete shutdown of Off-Road Traction Control it is necessary to carry out spare parts programming of the EBS control unit on earlier production vehicles. RTI Road traffic information The text under the description tab at control unit level may be incorrect. There may be no translations for the texts on some of the troubleshooting circuits. Support has been introduced for Resetting/Zeroing of the SVIP control unit. When Interactor 600 is transferred from one vehicle to another, its settings are restored Scania CV AB 2008 7

to preset values. These settings are, for example: PIN code for the SIM card, chassis number, log files, running time data and alarm settings. New settings must then be made, e.g. PIN code for SIM card and chassis number, after installing Interactor 600 in the new vehicle. Read off the settings in the computer using the administrator tool before the computer is reset to the preset values. SDP3 will verify whether resetting was successful or not. If resetting failed, this may be due to an interruption of communication. Switch off the computer after resetting. The green LED should not be on. When the computer is in place in the new vehicle, a number of settings must be entered using the administrator tool. LDW Lane Departure Warning A new system has been introduced. There is no translation of some text (only available in English). This will be rectified in a future edition. ACS Articulation control system A new system has been introduced. Local conversions A new tank shape option has been added (cylindrical). New tank volume options have been added. New tachograph options have been added. A new local conversion, extra air tanks, has been added. If you encounter problems If you have any problems with the SDP3 program you should: 1. Restart SDP3 and repeat the task that you were working on. If the problem remains: 2. Reinstall SDP3 and repeat the task that you were working on. If the problem remains: 3. See below. Dealers should contact their distributors with questions and proposals for developing the SDP3 program. The distributor will contact the technical Help Desk function, department WSB in Södertälje, Sweden or will use the FRAS system to report the dealer's problem with SDP3. When reporting faults with SDP3, it is important to include log files and a demo recording of the vehicle in order to receive a faster response to the fault report. By extending the logging using the SDP3 Configurator and then recreating the problem, log files are generated which are used by the factory in order to troubleshoot SDP3. Attaching the log files and demo recording facilitates communication between the distributor and factory and speeds up the reply to the fault report, see TI 00-05 11 02. Tips a) The Display fault codes menu option: It takes a long time before the window Scania CV AB 2008 8

appears. An active selection must be made of the system name and supplementary number in order to obtain the fault codes with their descriptions. b) Text for which there is no space in the application ends with three dots,. The full text is displayed in the status bar if the mouse pointer is positioned over the text. c) When an adjustment or conversion is carried out, fault codes are generated in some of the control units that are not affected by the adjustment. Erase these after carrying out an adjustment or conversion. d) Reading fault codes must be actively updated by the mechanic. e) The SDP3 program stores information, so use File close when you have finished with a vehicle. Do not exit SDP3, but only close work in progress to use what SDP3 has saved and therefore obtain better performance. Scania CV AB 2008 9
