Launch of the New Fiat 500X September 29, 2015 FCA Japan Ltd. The first new model and first small SUV from Fiat since the Japanese launch of the Fiat 500 The first car from the Fiat brand to offer the new option of four-wheel drive with a nine-speed automatic transmission The most inexpensive among the imported 4 x 4 SUVs available in Japan FCA Japan Ltd. will launch the new Fiat 500X, the first small SUV to come from Fiat, one of the brands marketed by the company. Starting on Saturday, October 24, 2015, the new 500X will be available at authorized Fiat dealers throughout the country. The new Fiat 500X is the very first model from the 500 family to be introduced in this country since the 2008 launch of the Fiat 500. With this small SUV, FCA Japan is opening a new chapter in the success story of the Fiat brand in Japan. The 500X goes beyond previous Fiat cars by featuring exterior and interior designs inheriting the DNA of the iconic Fiat 500 of 1957, while at the same time offering the new option of the combination of four-wheel drive with a nine-speed automatic transmission, a first from the Italian brand. Another benefit for customers is that the new Fiat 500X offers the lowest price range among the imported 4 x 4 SUVs available in Japan, followed by the Jeep Renegade. In particular, a 4 x 2 model with a price starting in the million yen range is a strong point for customers. Here are further features of the new Fiat 500X. 1. Exterior/interior design combining elegance and functionality 2. Onroad/offroad capability delivering driving comfort and maximum efficiency 3. The latest and most advanced safety equipment available in a car from the Fiat brand 1. Exterior/interior design combining elegance and functionality Exterior design From the very first glance it s clear that in the new Fiat 500X, the styling of the 500 finds a brand new, more dynamic interpretation, without ever flaunting the aggressiveness of body form. In fact, the Fiat 500X has fluid lines which give it grace and dynamism. In addition, the exterior style of the new Fiat SUV expresses many distinctive elements of both the current 500 and the iconic 500 of the Fifties. The most evident reference to the model s precursor comes in the combination of the upper headlights, which although circular, have a more dynamic cut for a more powerful look, and the lower main beam lights. The wraparound bonnet with side folds too is a 500-style feature, just like the front end, with its extreme stylistic harmony, the classic trapezoid muzzle and, at the center, the elegant chrome moustache. The black lower grille a stylistic feature introduced in the current 500 gives the vehicle its friendly look and, at the same time, accords robustness and a strong personality. Interior design Once you sit behind the wheel, you immediately notice the instrument layout, and the usability and comfort of the controls, which are all directed towards the driver and Page 2
grouped by function. The driving experience is even more enveloping thanks to the vertical-tilt and telescopic steering wheel, the H point just 669 mm from the ground (697 mm for the Cross Plus grade), the wraparound seats, and generous leg space. Based on a cockpit structure, the driver s side features an instrument panel divided into three circular sections, of which the center section is larger with a metallic trim clearly reminiscent of the historic Fiat 500 the ideal combination of retro aesthetic and modern technology. 2. Onroad/offroad capability delivering optimum driving comfort and maximum efficiency The first car from the Fiat brand to offer the option of four-wheel drive with a nine-speed automatic transmission The new Fiat 500X is the first Fiat car to offer a nine-speed automatic transmission, a segment-exclusive feature also available for the new Renegade from the Jeep brand. The innovative transmission allows the vehicle to optimize the power developed by the engine, at the same time enabling aggressive pick-up and smooth, efficient power delivery. The electronically controlled transmission features specific mapping, with the option to switch to manual-sequential mode. It also ensures increased reactivity, with faster acceleration and more fluid gear shifting. In addition, the gearbox s wide opening, in terms of ratios, ensures that the engine is always working within the optimum speed range, maximizing comfort and efficiency. The four-wheel drive system available for the new small SUV is the first of its kind to come from the Fiat brand. Its greatest highlight is the use of a rear axle disconnection system that reduces energy wasted when four-wheel drive operation is not required, thus helping ensure more efficient fuel consumption. Mood Selector A standard feature in all grades, the Mood Selector offers the driver a choice of three modes based on the driving and road surface conditions. Auto mode is calibrated for everyday driving. It ensures maximum comfort and minimum fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This is achieved through more economical engine calibration and increased power steering, as well as an optimized gear shift point to reduce CO2 emissions. Page 3
Sport mode is perfect for driving when performance matters. The system changes the calibration of the engine, the ESC system and the steering, to ensure a more direct, sportier driving response. Traction mode: On front-wheel drive versions, the function activates the Traction Plus control system, which improves grip on tough, slippery terrain, such as wet and ice-covered surfaces. The Traction Plus system deploys ESC hardware, using designated algorithms to control and manage the braking system, thereby electronically simulating the behavior of a self-locking differential. 1.4 MultiAir turbo engine Available in all three grades. In the Pop Star and Pop Star Plus grades, the MultiAir generates maximum power of 103 kw (140 HP) at 5,000 rpm and maximum torque of 230 Nm (23.5 kgm) at 1,750 rpm. The powerful driving performance is combined with low consumption and emissions: in JC 08 mode, the recorded figures are 15.0 km/l and 155 g/km CO2, respectively. Despite having the same displacement, the Cross Plus version delivers even higher performance, with peak output of 125 kw (170 HP) at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 250 Nm (25.5 kgm) at 2,500 rpm. 3. The latest and most advanced safety equipment available in a car from the Fiat brand The new Fiat 500X offers the newest in currently available active and passive safety systems. As standard equipment, the entire range features seven airbags (front, window-bag, side, and knee), ESC, and fog lights with cornering function. Other key safety features include: Forward Collision Warning with crash mitigation Lane Departure Warning Blind Spot Assist and Rear Cross Path detection Rear parking camera Rear parking sensor with alarm Page 4
The new 500X is produced at the Fiat factory in Melfi, Italy.
