ECU The ignition must be turned OFF before installation. 1 Locate the engine control unit (ECU) under the hood. Figure A factory wiring harness ECU - MAG side 2 Unplug the ECU connector on the MAG side as shown in Figure B. 3 Attach the Power Commander III USB (PCIII USB) connectors to the ECU and the factory wiring harness. Figure D PCIII USB 5 Clean the top of the ECU and the back of the PCIII USB using the supplied alcohol swab and attach the supplied velcro. 6 Attach the PCIII USB to the ECU. 7 Insert the cd provided into your computer s cd-rom drive. 8 Follow the on-screen instructions to install the PCIII USB software. Visit www.powercommander.com to download software tutorials. EFI TUNING WITH PCIII The Power Commander makes fueling changes off of the numbers in the map stored in the Power Commander. The snowmobile Power Commanders are shipped with a Zero Map. With a Zero Map, the snowmobile will run the stock fueling programmed in the ECU. When a map is loaded into the Power Commander, the snowmobile will be fueled according to the numbers in the map. The Power Commander does not make changes to the ECU programming. The numbers in the Power Commander map add or subtract a percentage of the fuel the ECU is supplying for a particular load condition. For example, if the Power Commander map shows a 10 in a given cell, the Power Commander increases the amount of fuel the ECU is supplying by 10%. If the Power Commander map shows a -10 in a given cell, the Power Commander reduces the amount of fuel the ECU is supplying by 10%. When tuning, always start with a setting where the motor runs rich. Slowly trim fuel out to find the desired exhaust gas temperature (EGT) or air-to-fuel ratio (A/F). The PCIII USB gives you the freedom to subtract up to 99% and add up to 100% of the fuel the ECU is supplying for a particular condition. When adding fuel with the Power Commander, the injector duty cycle may reach 100% (always open) before the Power Commander value reaches 100%. For example, if the ECU is running the injectors at 67% duty cycle (injectors open 67% of the time) then adding 50% fuel with the Power Commander will max out the injectors. In this case, the amount of fuel that can be added will be limited by the injectors. FUEL SUBTRACTION The PCIII USB gives you the ability to trim fuel out of the map to correct rich conditions. Engine failure can result from running the engine in a lean state. Two-stroke tuning should only be done by qualified individuals. If you are not familiar with two-stroke tuning concepts, seek the help of an experience tuning professional. i617-411.01 2007-2009 Arctic Cat M8, M1000, F8, and F1000 - PCIII USB - 3

BUTTON VALUES The Power Commander has a Button Mode that will make changes in addition to the numbers stored in the map. The button values make changes based on RPM ranges. The LOW range makes changes from 0-3000 RPM, MID from 3001-6000 RPM, and HIGH from 6001-9000 RPM. The Button Mode is activated by pressing the LO, MID, and HIGH buttons simultaneously while powering up the Power Commander. This is easily done using a 9V battery power adapter. Once you enter the Button Mode, the LED bar will light up with the LED in the center position if there are no button values stored in the Power Commander. To change the button values, press and release the desired button to increase the fuel trim in this area of the map or hold the button down to decrease the fuel trim in this area of the map. The button trims are set to 2% per LED bar giving a maximum of 10% addition or subtraction. When there are two LED lights centered around zero, the button value is zero for that RPM range. If button value changes are not made for a few seconds, the Power Commander will store the button values entered and revert to showing the throttle position in the LED bars. The button values are an easy way to make fueling changes in the field when a computer is not available. ADVANCED MAPS When the fuel map is advanced the PCIII USB creates an individual table for each injector. These Arctic Cat snowmobiles have two cylinders with one injector per cylinder. The software will show two tables as follows: Cylinder 1 table PTO injector Cylinder 2 table MAG injector Advanced maps can be used to increase the precision of fueling changes, or correct a lean or rich condition on an individual cylinder. You may find a single map will be less complicated and sufficient for most engine modifications. ADDITIONAL FEATURES The Power Commander has additional features to help you tune for maximum performance including the Accelerator Pump, Cylinder Trim, and Throttle Position Calibration. To view tutorials on how to use these features, visit www.powercommander.com and click the download tab under Race Ready. PRODUCTS TO ASSIST IN TUNING Dynojet recommends the Wideband Commander to monitor A/F ratios. The Wideband Commander displays A/F ratios on a digital or analog gauge allowing you to make informed tuning decisions. Figure F For more precise tuning, Dynojet recommends the Wideband Commander and the LCD-100 color touch screen display. The LCD-100 can display RPM, throttle position, injector duty cycle, A/F ratio, and more. The information displayed on the LCD-100 can be recorded on a standard SD card and viewed at your convenience. This combination allows you to use throttle position and RPM to identify areas in the map that need to be adjusted. With the LCD-100 you can store multiple maps on an SD card and load the maps in the Power Commander without the use of a computer. The LCD-100 only accepts 1GB or smaller SD cards. LCD-100 Color Touch Screen Display ADDITIONAL POWER COMMANDER ACCESSORIES Figure G The Multi-Function Hub unlocks the door to additional Power Commander features. For ultimate performance, the Multi-Function Hub allows the Power commander to provide fueling changes for Nitrous and Turbo applications.
