Tomatalk October 2013 Volume 38 ~ Number 10 The Tomatalk is published monthly by the Minnesota Chapter 13 of the Pontiac Oakland Club International. The Tomahawk Chapter was founded in 1977. The chapter is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of Pontiac, Oakland and GMC vehicles of all years and models, stock and modified. Club events are organized for the enjoyment of our members. All letters to the editor should be signed. Articles, letters and editorial content represent the opinions and viewpoints of the authors and not necessarily that of the Tomahawk Chapter or POCI. web site: tomatalk.org PONTIAC-OAKLAND Club International The World s Largest ALL-PONTIAC CLUB Tomahawk Chapter Officers President - Steve Messer 59 Lilac St. Lino Lakes, MN 55014 651-786-4198 steve.messer2@gmail.com Vice-President Todd Lewis 5895 St. Albans No. Shorewood, MN 55126 651-895-9325 tc.lewis@yahoo.com Secretary - Steve Weese 8838 Baltimore St. NE Blaine, MN 55449 763-780-0937 steveweese@comcast.net Treasurer - Jim Felker 5500 Merritt Circle Edina, MN 55436 952-929-2813 brunohunt@sprynet.com Newsletter Editor & Web Site Administrator Paul Bergstrom 1165 County Road 83 Independence, MN 55359 763-479-2248 pontiacpaulb@gmail.com Page 1

President s Message As I am writing this message I have just returned from our 12th Annual Valley Car Show and BBQ. First of all I want to thank Randy and his staff for making it happen. On my last count we had 72 cars registered. That was up from 45 last year. We took in about $200.00 in cash and enough food to fill Jim Felker s Cadillac. Of course as your President, I am more than willing to take credit for the weather. The only complaint I have is the number of members not attending. I realize everyone gets busy this time of the year but you missed a great afternoon. We held the September club meeting at QA1 in Apple Valley. There were only 8 members present. I know that Apple Valley is almost at the Iowa border but it was very interesting. Our next meeting will be in Roseville in October. Steve Messer, Tomahawk Chief THANKS TO VALLEY BUICK/GMC FOR HOSTING OUR 12th ANNUAL BBQ/CAR SHOW! Page 2

Thanks Todd for setting this up as I for one really enjoyed it! The October meeting will be at the Rosetown Legion. September Meeting Minutes Steve Mudbird Weese Tomahawk Chapter Secretary We met at QA1 in Lakeville with 8 members present. The meeting was called to order at 7:25. A treasurer s report was given and accepted. We decided not to read last month s minutes so we could get on with the tour. Old Business T-shirts - we discussed getting club shirts made and ways to have them customized for each of our members. We will probably have a presale count to see how many we should order. Prez Steve checking out a QA1 shock, maybe 4 to go for the 69 GTO? Valley Show - we will meet at Perkins at 7:00 am to eat and then we ll set up for the show on Saturday. QA1 - Dave Kass (customer service manager) and Damien Brase (technical sales support) were the guides on our tour. They showed us their whole operation including product development and production areas. I found this very interesting as I have worked in production shops for many years. The machining, welding and assembly areas are all first class with the latest equipment and they have many custom machines. I could have stayed there all night but they were generous enough to take the time they did away from their families. Members on tour at the QA facility were impressed with the operation. Thanks for Dave K. and Damien B. for taking the time to spend with us! (Todd Lewis photos) Page 3

Meanwhile... Back at the Pontiac Ranch Well, Fall is here and it s time to start thinking about putting the Ponchos away for the winter. My wife and I took a drive up the north shore, to Grand Marais to catch some of the fall colors. Something the club should consider, maybe next year for the 3rd Annual Dave Bennett Memorial cruise! Membership Meeting October 15th 7:00 pm Rosetown American Legion 700 County Road C Roseville, MN We are trying out our new 1983 Chevy camper van - it s great for road trips. I hope to see you at the next meeting. I am looking for more feature cars! Please make a note of my new E-mail address: pontiacpaulb@gmail.com Rosetown American Legion Location Keep those Ponchos rollin! ETC s 2013 Flathead Reunion Your editor, and his brother, Jamie, drove the 51 Pontiac sedan delivery down to Red Wing to join the ETC event. These folks really enjoy the reunions and take the time to bring along period-correct memorabilia and picnic items, even dressing in their Sunday best for the picnic. It was a fun time. Page 5

2nd Annual Dave Bennett Memorial Cruise: 9/7/13 On Saturday, September 7th, Tomahawk members meet in Inver Grove Heights and drove down to Red Wing to meet up with POCI s Early Times Chapter. The ETC was having an old fashioned picnic on the final day of their Flathead Reunion. We will run some more photos and a recap of the rest of the Dave Bennett Memorial Cruise in the next issue. Here s a group shot of the Tomahawk Crew at the 1st stop of the cruise (Red Wing for the ETC Flathead Reunion). If you have any photos or stories to share please get them to the editor and we ll print them in the next issue. Page 6
