SPIDAN steering & suspension parts are the most reliable components for a better, safer driving experience. Designed by professional engineers and manufactured in Europe, SPIDAN steering parts guarantee maximum quality and perfect performance.
SPIDAN quality steering & suspension parts are more reliable with regard to: Braking distance Tests prove that driving with worn (or low quality) steering & suspension parts has a negative impact on the braking distance. At 50 km/h, the braking distance of a car with worn steering & suspension parts is increased by 2 meters! Road-holding From a speed of 57 km/h a car with low quality steering & suspension parts looses road-contact. The same also happens when avoiding obstacles on the road. The steering system plays an important role limiting the body movements of the car. Aquaplaning Aquaplaning occurs when tires can no longer absorb all the water on the road. If the steering & suspension parts do not perform properly, the risk of aquaplaning increases.
Installation guidelines: Ball joint 1 Raise the car on a lift, up to working level and remove the wheel. Unscrew nuts and bolts of the ball joint. 2 If the ball joint is fixed to the track control arm by rivets, remove these. 3 Use special mounting tool (ball joint separator) as shown to remove the ball joint. 4 Mount SPIDAN ball joint. Always use all bolts and nuts included in the repair kit. Take special care not to damage the dustcover and consider torque according to OE mounting instructions.
ATTENTION: Always take care of your own safety and the safety of others. Please work safely and wear safety equipment. Parts or tools falling down may cause serious injury. ATTENTION: Always follow the instruc tions and procedures recommended in the relevant workshop manual. At all times respect torque figures indicated by the vehicle or component manufacturer. 5 Mount the wheel and lower the car. Tighten and secure wheel bolts. Consider torque according to the car manufacturer s instructions. After that, test drive the car and carefully inspect the wheel alignment. If necessary adjust it. Kindly point out to your customer the tightening of the wheel nuts after a while as indicated by the vehicle manufacturer. Did you know... All SPIDAN steering and rubber mounting parts meet, or exceed original part standards. This results from comprehensive testing: Hardness tests of all components Material analysis Push, pull and cyclic tests Durability tests Parts are tested in real driving conditions on the road (for 40.000 kms) Water infiltration tests
Repair tip: Axial joints Before mounting, always move the pin and dustcover several times. Check for smooth movement De-aerate the dustcover Oil the pin, do not use grease Repair tip: Ball joints Make sure that the inner face of the track control arm is clean and free of dust before you press in the ball joint Always use the correct special mounting tools! Check correct connection of the top of the dustcover Always check bolts and nuts for a tight fit Respect torque indicated by the car manufacturer Never use a pneumatic wrench for tightening! Always use new nuts and bolts
Inspection Steering and suspension parts are wearing parts. Their inspection should be performed as part of a regular maintenance routine. Normal vehicle maintenance and recognition of component discrepancies is necessary to prevent serious mechanical problems as well as driver discomfort. Routine inspection steps: Clean the ball joint Attention! Take special care you don t damage the dustcover! Check the dustcover: split, cut or damaged boots may allow dirt to penetrate. This increases wear of the interior of the joint, movement of the ball pin will become difficult. The joint must be replaced immediately! Check the back-plate for damages Check if the housing is worn: water may enter the housing, the joint will become rusty and porous When checking backlash, make sure that the vehicle is standing stable on a level surface. Support the wheels or lower control arms before inspection. Use a suitable tool to check possible wear (looseness) between the ball joint and steering knuckle Place the tool / prybar between the steering knuckle and the ball joint, pry downwards The least visible backlash is enough to replace the ball joint, because the top nut is now exposed to strong forces and can break Don t risk the driver s safety!
Installation guidelines: Track control arm (and bushes) 1 Raise the car up to working level and remove the wheel. Loosen nuts and bolts of the ball joint. 2 Loosen and remove all mounting parts of the track control arm. 3 Remove track control arm. 4 Replace it by SPIDAN part. Mount securing bolts but don t yet tighten them.
Move car forwards and backwards several times. Now tighten the securing bolts of the track control arm. Do not use a pneumatic wrench! 6 Tighten wheel bolts. Consider torque according to the car manufacturer s instructions. 7 Carefully inspect / adjust the wheel alignment. 8 Take the car for a test drive.
Repair tip: Bushes Attention: If you use an universal lever make sure you don t overstress (and damage) the bushes When replacing the suspension arm or track control arm, ensure it is aligned correctly before tightening the securing bolts. Failure to do this may cause premature wear of the bushes Mount SPIDAN bushes by using a suitable (e.g. hydraulic) press ATTENTION: Always take care of your own safety and the safety of others. Please work safely and wear safety equipment. Parts or tools falling down may cause serious injury. ATTENTION: Always follow the instruc tions and procedures recommended in the relevant workshop manual. At all times respect torque figures indicated by the vehicle or component manufacturer.
Installation guidelines: Stabiliser link 1 Raise the car up to working level. If necessary remove the wheel. Loosen both nuts of the stabiliser link. 2 ATTENTION: Never use a pneumatic wrench to mount the stabiliser nuts! Replace stabiliser link by SPIDAN replacement parts. Always replace stabiliser links in pairs! 3 In case of stabiliser links with ball joints: mount the nuts using a spanner and Allen key. In case of stabiliser links with bushes: install without tension. Mount the wheel according to the manufacturer s instructions. 4 Now tighten the securing bolts and wheel bolts. Consider torque according to the car manufacturer s instructions. Test drive the vehicle.
Installation guidelines: Tie rod end / Axial joint 1 Raise the car up to working level and remove the wheel. 2 Loosen the counter nut at the tie rod end and leave it as close as possible at its original position (measure the distance). This simplifies finding the right position for the axial joint later. 3 Unfasten the securing nut of the tie rod end. 4 Use mounting tool as shown to demount the tie rod.
5 Attention: Always follow the instructions and procedures recommended in the relevant workshop manual. At all times respect torque figures indicated by the vehicle or component manufacture. Remove the clamps and the steering gaiter. 6 Secure the rack and loosen the axial joint. 7 Mount SPIDAN axial joint. Consider torque indicated in the car manufacturer s instructions. 8 Mount steering gaiter and fix the clamps. Continued on the next page
Continuation of installation guidelines: Tie rod end / Axial joint ATTENTION: Always take care of your own safety and the safety of others. Please work safely and wear safety equipment. Parts or tools falling down may cause serious injury. 9 Screw the tie rod end against the counter nut. To avoid damage make sure the groove at the tie rod end fits properly into the housing of the wheel bearing. 10 Consider torque indicated in the car manufacturer s instructions. 11 Mount the wheel and lower the car.
