AESTHETICS AND COMFORT In the fields of gynaecology and urology it was the lithotomy position, disliked among patients, which for many years dictated the appearance of examination chairs. Without neglecting medical necessities, MAQUET has departed from traditional paths. Radius is closely attuned to the needs of both patients and physicians in both form and function. Adjustment and control, appearance, comfort and hygienic requirements were always in the foreground during development. JAPAN 2 The concept for the chair s appearance was devised by designer Petra Goebel. This achievement was acclaimed by the Stuttgart Design Center with the awarding of the Mia Seeger Prize. Working in close cooperation with the designer, MAQUET turned RADIUS into reality. Honoured with the internationally recognized if Product Design Award 1999 and the Japanese Good Design Award.

RADIUS ITS OWN PHILOSOPHY The foot plates and support arches are designed so that every woman regardless of height will be assured of ergonomically correct, relaxed seating. The abduction angle is set individually by the physician. This is particularly helpful for patients with hip joint complaints. Patients with limited mobility at the knee can lay their legs flat on the RADIUS foot plates. The chair moves gently into the correct position to prepare for the examination; there is no need for minor readjustments later. The additional option of moving the patient to a supine position lets you conduct ultrasound examinations with the RADIUS, too. 3

RADIUS creates a friendly and relaxed atmosphere Patients usually find traditional examination chairs to be quite uncomfortable. RADIUS offers a genuine alternative. Its exceptional design takes account of the sensitivity of the examination situation and incorporates closely defined measures to alleviate anxiety. It lends a feeling of confidence to the examining room situation and in so doing contributes to long-term patient loyalty. The patient is put in the proper position for the examination immediately without later corrections Thanks to the deep cutout in the seat and coordinated seat and back rest motions you can quickly put your patient into the anatomically correct position for the examination. The need for correction is eliminated. Simple and logical handling with only a few controls RADIUS is operated with just four clearly arranged switches. You can position the foot switch module at the right, left or centre to best suit your work habits. The chair moves into the desired position in response to the foot switch. This makes it particularly easy for older patients to take a seat when the foot rests are swung downward. Wheel chair users can transfer conveniently to the examination chair from the side. With gas-strut support the physician can put the patient s legs in position for the examination in a single movement. This version of the RADIUS is superbly suited for urodynamic examinations.
