Your partner for systems engineering expertise. Electric energy means light and warmth, progress and luxury - and it means the comfort and convenience of being able to enjoy all that this brings as a matter of course. We would like to ensure that things stay that way, no matter where you are or what your needs. That is the challenge we have set out to meet. MTU Friedrichshafen in Germany and Detroit Diesel Corporation in the USA, two Daimler- Chrysler companies, have combined their offhighway operations. With the joint product ranges of the MTU and DDC brands complemented by Mercedes- Benz and VM-Motori Off-Highway engines a global leader has been created in the engine and systems engineer-ing sector covering marine, rail and power generation applications as well as heavy commercial and defense vehicles and construction, mining and agricultural machinery. Within the new grouping, MTU represents a unique combination of tradition and innovation in the development of high-performance, compact diesel and gas engines and the highest standards of systems engineering in both the civil and military sectors. Occupying an established position in the components business, Detroit Diesel is a leading supplier of diesel engines in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The company s extensive experience in industrial and mining applications is of particular significance with regard to joint trading operations. On the basis of these strengths, the MTU brand represents the marine, rail, power generation and military vehicles sectors within the Off-Highway division. Detroit Diesel on the other hand is the brand for the entire commercial vehicles sector, whether in the construction, agricultural or mining industries. 02 03
The VIRTUS concept. A special feature of VIRTUS gensets is that they consist of different standardized modules. This modular concept enables us to build gensets which are tailored to our customers individual needs. As system provider, we assume responsibility for the entire plant. This means that all subsystems which are necessary for the operation of the genset are carefully selected and precisely adapted. In this way, we can optimize operating costs and ensure maximum reliability and availability over the long term. We provide: Economy and flexibility with standardized modules Technically mature, high-efficiency components Perfectly matched with MTU engineering know-how Cost-optimized series production components Full range of factory tested accessories Low consumption and low emission versions Worldwide product support Worldwide 1400 points of contact with 150 distributors in 130 countries Worldwide parts availability Preventive maintenance concept and support agreements Customer training VIRTUS Diesel Gensets Series 2000 Series 4000 50 Hz Prime (kva) Standby (kva) Prime (kva) Standby (kva) Fuel-optimized 650 700 1350 1485 version 700 770 1500 1650 825 910 1815 1997 910 1000 2000 2200 1000 1100 Emission optimized 650 1400 version 700 1540 825 1850 910 2000 1000 VIRTUS Diesel Gensets Series 2000 Series 4000 60 Hz Prime (kwe) Standby (kwe) Prime (kwe) Standby (kwe) Fuel-optimized 682 650 1350 1250 version 909 750 1800 1500 954 910 1750 1000 2000 1145 04 05

VIRTUS: Monitoring and Control System Container Gensets In order to meet the different requirements in the application segments standby and prime duty, our monitoring and control systems S5000 and S7000 feature all necessary functions. Container gensets are a technically interesting and economical alternative to traditional stationary generating plants as they result in considerably lower investment cost compared to newly built or converted generating-plant buildings. A special application of container gensets is in mobile operation, i.e. whenever it is necessary to move gensets from one location to another and ensure that power is supplied to the customer without delay.
