Water treatment gear reducers Long-lasting, Economical, and Ecological Products Contributing to Water Environments and Water Quality Control. Gear Reducer for Sludge Collectors (Submerged Gear Reducer)

Here at Hanshin Engineering Co., Ltd., we started manufacturing gear reducers more than half a century ago. We have grown into a manufacturer that provides special gear reducers for various clients not only in Japan, but also all over the world. We constantly refine our products through research to discover the solutions to issues customers have experienced. These drive units can be further classified into the center-post type and the center-shaft type. We also provide submerged gear reducers. These products are superior in service life and durability, so that simple periodic overhauls will allow them to be used for a long period of time. Since the units are centrally driven, weather factors, such as heavy rain, heavy snow, and freezing, will not cause rail-travelling wheel slippage, which may occur for circumferentially driven types. Accordingly, sludge lifting caused by the pulsing motion accompanying slippage will not occur, so the quality of treated water will be stabilized. We also produce driving units with a lifting device. If overtorque due to sludge overload should stop the units, the problem can be eliminated by raising and lowering the unit. This eliminates the need to remove sewage and sludge from the customer s tanks, leading to a reduction in operation costs. In addition, the torque meter attached to our units is a mechanical type using a worm gear, allowing stable indications unlike the instable indications of electrical types. The mechanical torque meter also prevents erroneous indications caused by electrical system trouble. Based on our many years of experience and our outstanding track record, we will provide our clients with the models and types of machines most suited to their needs. We will also provide full support to our clients with the technologies that we have developed and our thorough service system. The lineup of our water treatment gear reducers consists of the following equipment. Gear Reducer for Sludge Collectors (Submerged Gear Reducer) 01

Features Structure Our units have a rational design structure consisting of a worm reducer incorporated into a spur internal gear in the final step. Units with a lifting device can be raised and lowered with a revolving motion. After they are installed on site, their sludge collection speed (rake circumferential speed) can be changed by replacing sprocket wheels. Supporting mechanism In center-post type units, a rolling bearing on rails built on the spur internal gear and gear case supports all external forces including large thrust loads, overturning moment, and radial loads from the gear. Rotating apparatus The main body of the unit is equipped with a manual rotating apparatus. The apparatus allows tasks such as mortar construction in the tank, clearance adjustment, and clearance measurement of the blades to be done efficiently. It is particularly effective when no power supply is available at the installation site. Lifting device The units that have a lifting device can be freely raised and lowered whether or not the units are operating. For hazard prevention, the lifting device is equipped with a worm jack with an overhung electric motor and multiple microswitches attached at the upper and lower limits of the output-shaft motion. The link between the electric motor of the lifting device and a torque meter allows easy remote control. Safety device Our units are equipped with a mechanism that protects the driving unit from overloads. The safety device allows the overload rate (torque) to be visually read on its scale plate. The activation levels of its contacts for sounding an alarm and stopping are adjustable by setting the corresponding torque values. In addition, a remote-control safety device can be attached to the units. Maintenance and inspection Center-post type units have sufficient room in and around the center of its floor plate between the spur internal gear and the worm reducer. This structure allows easy maintenance and inspection. In addition, since all lubricants can be changed in the center section, lubricant changes do not require dangerous, complicated work but can be performed with the highest level of safety. Gear Reducer for Sludge Collectors (Submerged Gear Reducer) Waterproof shaft seal device Our waterproof shaft seal device, which uses a water seal cassette, is a complex shaft seal device combining an oil seal, an axial seal, an oil chamber, and a grease chamber. It is the perfect shaft seal device made from commercially available standard seal parts. Prevention of water intrusion and oil leak Water coming into direct contact with the shaft seal section causes the lubricant, whose specific gravity is lighter than that of water, to be pushed up and thereby tends to induce water intrusion into the inside, particularly in the upper section of the input shaft in the vertical direction. To prevent water intrusion, an air chamber (also serving as a dust shield) is installed to isolate the shaft seal section from water. This prevents water intrusion and oil leakage. In the horizontal direction, water and oil are present in the same plane, so the difference in specific gravity is not as critical a factor as it is in the vertical direction. Accordingly, the above-mentioned shaft seal will be sufficiently effective. Structure of the easily replaceable shaft-seal section The contact region of the rotating section inevitably wears away in the course of long-term use. This causes the effectiveness of the shaft-seal to decrease. The water-seal cassettetype structure allows a worn shaft-seal section to be easily replaced. Depressurization method A considerable amount of hydraulic pressure is exerted on the shaft-seal section at deep locations in water. Accordingly, our submerged gear reducers are equipped with an oil feed pipe that leads the atmosphere into them to reduce the pressure exerted on the shaft-seal section. Water lubrication Endurance tests have demonstrated that water lubrication can be used for the low-revolution, long-time operations of gear reducers for sludge collectors. Tests have also verified that water lubrication provides sufficient durability and high reliability under all operating conditions. However, lubricating water must be service water or treated water, and consideration also needs to be given to factors such as water pressure. The inside of the gear box can be cleaned by circulating the lubricating water in it at specific intervals. 05

Types * SB KA type units can use either a rolling bearing or a sliding bearing. 06

Making a Selection Gear Reducer for Sludge Collectors (Submerged Gear Reducer) Example of calculation for motor capacity selection When N SD2-8T model is selected on the basis of sludge collection torque, maximum allowable output torque T will be 78400 N m. Output revolving speed N is calculated as follows from tank diameter D and rake circumferential speed V: V 3m/min N = = = 0.0367 min -1 π D π φ26m Required power P is calculated as follows from maximum allowable output torque T and output revolving speed N: T N 78400 0.0367 P = = = 1.0 kw 9550 η 9550 0.3 (η: total mechanical efficiency) Accordingly, the motor capacity is selected to be 1.5 kw. * The gear ratio of the chain sprocket needs to be somewhere between approximately 1.2 and 2.0. Efficiency of each section Final-step spur internal gear section (fourth gear): 95% Worm gear reducer section (third gear): 45% Chain sprocket section (second gear): 95% Cyclo gear reducer section (first gear): 80 90% Beier Cyclo variator section (first gear): 65 70% * This is one example of the selection process. Total mechanical efficiency For Cyclo: approximately 32 36% For Beier Cyclo: approximately 25 28% 07

Tables for Model Selection VWML A / VWML B Model Allowable output shaft torque Alarm torque (80%) N m (kgf m) Lubricating Oil In order to operate and control equipment normally, it is essential to make sure the lubrication stays in good condition. Lubricating oil needs to be added while the unit is shutdown so that the oil level will be within the range of the fill lines on the oil level gauge. The fill lines on the oil level gauge indicate the oil level when the unit is shutdown. Too much oil will cause problems, such as efficiency loss due to stirring, temperature increases, and oil leaks. On the other hand, too little lubricating oil leads to insufficient lubrication and may cause breakdowns, such as seizure, or accidents.
