Warranty Terms and Conditions Even with the best tank available in the marketplace today, ATI customers should settle for nothing less than total peace of mind. That's why along with the longest life, best leak protection and utmost quality we also provide the ATI Lifetime Transferable Warranty with our Tanks in addition to up to $5 million in clean-up coverage. The Best Fibreglass Tank also provides the Best Warranty. ATI s warranty is unsurpassed among oil tanks. Some tanks on the market advertise a 30-year replacement warranty in the case of a manufacturing defect - but it is important to note that tank failures rarely result from manufacturing defects, as tanks are thoroughly tested before entering the market. Part 2 A) Installation Parts All required fittings are to be supplied by the certified installer. Only standard burner installation tools and equipment are required. B) Accessories Part 3 Tie-Downs and related accessories are presently being developed. A) Permits and Approvals 1. Review municipal codes and regulations before installing the tank. Codes and regulations will vary by municipality. 2. Receive all necessary approvals before installing the tank. 3. The ATI 1000 is an innovative design with attributes that may not be familiar to municipal officials. For example, the inherent strength achieved in the tank s composite manufacturing process makes a double bottom or double wall unnecessary. Be prepared to provide inspectors with relevant information and supporting details. 4. Be sure to review the warranty and follow all installation instructions. Failure to follow ATI s instructions could result in voiding the warranty. 5. Make sure you have your certified installer s card available as it will be required for warranty documentation. www.atlantictankinnovations.com Mon to Fri, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Atlantic Standard Time) 6

B) Warnings and Cautions Attention Distributors: 1. Fully Inspect Tanks Upon Arrival. ATI inspects all tanks prior to shipment to ensure that they are free from any defect or damage. All tanks must be inspected for shipping damage upon arrival at your facility. If damage is found, contact the shipping company immediately to submit a claim. 2. Do Not Remove The Protective Packaging. All tanks are shipped with a clear poly cover to protect them from filling with rain water or other contaminants if stored outside. The cover should be left in place until installation. 3. Confirm Warranty Documents. All tanks are shipped with warranty documents for the installer and owner to complete and return to ATI. Should the documents be missing, contact ATI for a replacement set. Attention Installers: 1. The warranty will be void if the tank is not installed by an industry recognized certified installer. For installer certification information please contact the Canadian Oil Heat Association (http://www.cleanerheat.ca) or the National Oilheat Research Alliance (www.nora-oilheat.org) in the US. 2. Failure to follow ATI s installation instructions provided in this manual could result in: Voiding of the tank warranty Damaging the tank resulting in required replacement Personal Injury Property Damage Installer Liability 3. Do not install without obtaining and reviewing required permits and/or approvals. 4. All installations must be completed according to the governing building and health codes for fuel oil storage systems. C) Installer Inspection 1. Tanks are inspected for damage prior to shipment from ATI s facility and distributors are instructed to inspect tanks again upon arrival at their location. If damage is found during an installer inspection, the distributor or shipping company should be contacted immediately. www.atlantictankinnovations.com Mon to Fri, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Atlantic Standard Time) 7

2. The ATI 1000 is made from highly durable composite materials but occasionally mishandling can result in scratches or gouging. If a scratch or gouge measures 1 mm (1/32 ) or deeper, the tank should not be put into service until inspected by an authorized ATI representative. Part 4 A) Tank Installation - INSIDE 1. Site selection When choosing a location for the ATI 1000, the following standards must be met: Level Surface The tank must be placed on a level surface to prevent toppling and assure the proper alignment for piping connections. An un-level tank will compromise the operation and accuracy of gauges and other installed equipment. If the tank is more than ½ inch out of level, a surfacing compound must be used to correct the problem. Installing a tank more than ½ inch out of level will void the warranty. Weight Bearing Capacity Specific requirements for oil tank foundations found in CSA B139: 7.3.5 (in Canada) and NFPA 31 Sections 7.3-7.10 (in the US) must be followed. The approximate weight of a full 1000 L (330 US gal) ATI 1000 is 1840 lbs which makes pavers, patio blocks, foundation blocks and similar products insufficient to support the load. Use of these materials as a tank base will void the warranty. Minimum Clearance CSA B139: 7.3.5 (in Canada) and NFPA 31 Sections 7.3-7.10 (in the US), mandates that a minimum clearance of 460 mm (18 in) be made along one side and one end for service accessibility. It is also recommended that a large enough space also be left along the opposing wall and end of the tank to allow for periodic inspection. Enough over head space should be available for easy installation or replacement of gauges and fittings. Proper Drainage The area around the tank and the foundation which it sits on must be keep well drained to avoid deterioration of the foundation or damage to the tank s surface from caustic fluids. Each certified installer has been issued a pair of suction cup handles for the safe and convenient movement and positioning of the ATI 1000 tank. These handles are to be placed on the flat, dry, and clean shell surfaces of the tank. 2. Locating The Tank The following factors must be considered before attempting to locate the tank in its final position: www.atlantictankinnovations.com Mon to Fri, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Atlantic Standard Time) 8

Will the tank fit through all doors, stairs, halls and turns on the path to its final location? There are no parts on the tank that can be altered or removed and any attempt to do so will void the warranty. Is the desired tank location free of deficiencies including the load bearing surface, the slope, and drainage? If a cement pad is required, it should extend 6 inches from the base of the tank on all exposed sides. Determine the distances for piping and check for obstructions. The maximum length for fill piping should be determined by following the vent whistle manufacturer s instructions. Failure to follow these instructions could result in an over-fill condition. The maximum fuel oil supply line length must be in accordance with the burner/pump manufacturer s recommendations. CSA-B139 (in Canada) The minimum separation distance from the heating appliance is 2 feet. This separation distance must be respected. NFPA 31 (in the US) The minimum separation distance from the heating appliance is 2 feet. This separation distance must be respected. 3. Piping Installation All piping and supply line installations shall be in accordance with CSA-B139, Installation Code for Oil-Burning Equipment, in Canada, and shall be in accordance with NFPA 31, Standard for the Installation of Oil-Burning Equipment, in the US, and ATI s instructions. Installation must be completed by a certified installer otherwise, the warranty will be void. Be sure that the tank is in the position of final operation and the site is desirable. All fill and vent pipes must be in accordance with CSA-B139: 9.3 (in Canada) and NFPA 31 Sections 7.3-7.10 (in the US). The ATI tank utilizes FRP couplings bonded into the tank. These fittings use standard pipe sealant and normal industry installation practices apply. Copper pipe is not permitted and should this be a replacement installation where copper pipe has been previously used, it must be removed and replaced as per regulations. The ATI 1000 is designed to use 2 inch connections. Fill pipes must be supported by hangers at a distance in accordance with the pipe size as follows: www.atlantictankinnovations.com Mon to Fri, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Atlantic Standard Time) 9

Pipe Size Max Distance Between Hangers 1.25 inch 7 feet 1.50 inch 9 feet 2.00 inch 10 feet The first hanger should be located as close to the tank connection as possible. Horizontal runs must be sloped towards the tank to ensure no oil remains in the pipe after filling. The maximum length of oil supply lines shall be in accordance with the burner and/or pump manufacturer s recommendations. Local codes will govern the materials acceptable for oil supply lines. 4. Accessory Installation Vent alarms (whistles) shall be installed in accordance with the vent alarm (whistle) manufacturer s instructions. The fuel gauge shall be installed in accordance with the fuel gauge manufacturer s instructions. Be careful not to damage the fuel gauge during installation by bumping or dropping the float. Lower the float carefully into the tank as dropping it into the tank may cause damage. 5. When to use a Tie-Down Kit In areas prone to earthquakes and/or flooding, consult local codes for regulations regarding aboveground installation of oil storage tanks. Tie-downs may be required to provide stability during an event. Tie-downs may also be used as a precautionary measure to avoid shifting if the basement were to flood due to broken pipes or other unforeseen events. 6. Installation of Tie-Down Kit Please note that the ATI Tie-Down Kit is under development. 7. Testing and Inspection All ATI tanks are pressure tested at the factory according to UL and ULC requirements and further pressure testing of the tank is NOT required. If local codes require pressure testing of the piping, the piping should be disconnected, capped and tested as a separate unit. Piping should be pressure tested to a maximum of 0.5 psi (3.5 kpa) using a leak detection solution on all fittings. www.atlantictankinnovations.com Mon to Fri, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Atlantic Standard Time) 10

A complete inspection of all connections is to be conducted during the first fill. TRANSFER OF OIL from an old tank into this tank is ONLY permissible in accordance with CSA-B139-09 Edition, Clause 7.12.4, under the condition that water and sludge is removed from the oil prior to transferring the oil to the new tank. Clause 7.12.4 states: "Water and sludge shall not be transferred if oil is pumped from a replaced tank to a new tank". Leaks may be caused due to loose fittings or misaligned pipes which can be easily remedied by a certified installer. Once adjustments are made, a complete review of the complete installation must be conducted. B) Tank Installation - OUTSIDE 1. Consult Codes and Regulations - Most regions have specific codes and regulations concerning outdoor installation of oil storage tanks. The location of the installation may affect the governing codes and must be reviewed before installation begins. 2. Base Preparation - A professionally installed concrete pad is the preferred method for supporting an outdoor tank installation. The pad should be prepared in a method which will prevent heaving or cracking due to frost. Refer to CSA-B139: 7.3.7 and 7.3.8 (in Canada) and NFPA 31 Sections 7.3-7.10 (in the US) for specific requirements. If local codes do not require a cement pad, prepare the ground in the following method: Survey the area to make sure it will not be affected by run off which could damage the pad. Remove grass and top soil down to undisturbed subsoil in an area of approximately 6 deep x 36 wide x 80 long (15 cm deep x 90 cm wide x 200 cm long). Some frost zones may require deeper excavation to prevent heaving. Fill the area with crushed rock and tamper until compacted and level. Check for sufficient drainage. Do not place the tank on an area that has been recently disturbed by construction as the soil must have a chance to settle. A tank placed on soil www.atlantictankinnovations.com Mon to Fri, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Atlantic Standard Time) 11

that is settling may shift and result in toppling. Each certified installer has been issued with suction cup handles for the safe and convenient movement and positioning of the ATI tank. These handles can be placed on any flat, dry, clean surface of the tank. 3. Piping Installation All piping and supply line installations must be in accordance with CSA-B139, Installation Code for Oil-Burning Equipment, in Canada, and shall be in accordance with NFPA 31, Standard for the Installation of Oil-Burning Equipment, in the US, and ATI s instructions. REFER TO PART 4, SECTION 3 (PAGE 9) OF THIS MANUAL FOR APPLICABLE PIPING INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. The distance in elevation between fill and vent pipes may be mandated by local codes Use the appropriate water tight caps and termination ends. 4. Accessory Installation Tank accessories may vary depending on interior or outdoor installation. Use only tank gauges recommended by the gauge manufacturer for outdoor use. The fuel gauge shall be installed in accordance with the fuel gauge manufacturer s instructions. Be careful not to damage the fuel gauge during installation by bumping or dropping the float. Lower the float carefully into the tank as dropping it into the tank may cause damage. Survey the area above the tank for over hangs which could drop ice, snow or other materials onto the tank causing damage. If the tank is located in an area where falling materials may damage fittings or accessories, installation of a suitable cover is recommended. Vent alarms (whistles) shall be installed in accordance with the vent alarm (whistle) manufacturer s instructions. 5. Testing and Inspection All ATI tanks are pressure tested at the factory according to UL and ULC requirements and further pressure testing of the tank is NOT required. www.atlantictankinnovations.com Mon to Fri, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Atlantic Standard Time) 12

If local codes require pressure testing of the piping, the piping should be disconnected, capped and tested as a separate unit. Piping should be pressure tested to a maximum of 0.5 psi (3.5 kpa) using a leak detection solution on all fittings. A complete inspection of all connections is to be conducted during the first fill. DO NOT TRANSFER OIL FROM AN OLD TANK INTO THIS TANK. The oil in the old tank may contain foreign material and contaminants which could damage the new system. The transferring of oil from an old tank to a new one is prohibited and will void the tank warranty. Leaks may be caused by loose fittings or misaligned pipes which can easily be remedied by a certified installer. Once adjustments are made, a review of the complete installation shall be conducted. Part 5 A) Installation Review Once installation of the ATI 1000 has been completed, the installer shall conduct a review to make sure the complete installation is in compliance with all local codes and regulations. The installer should also review to make sure the manufacturer s instructions delivered during certification and in this manual have been followed. B) Warranty Documentation Warranty documentation must now be accurately and fully completed as per ATI s instructions. Part one is given to the tank owner and part two must be returned to ATI. Failure to fully complete and deliver the warranty documentation will result in the warranty being void. C) First Fill It is very important that the installation be monitored during the first fill to verify that all pipe joints are leak-free. All tank fittings should be checked immediately following the first fill to ensure piping alignment. If any issues are discovered, the installer can make the appropriate adjustments at this time. D) Yearly Maintenance The ATI 1000 is manufactured with the highest regard for quality and craftsmanship. The tank has been designed to provide the owner with many years of worry free operation when installed and maintained in accordance with ATI s instructions. A few simple steps should be taken each year to extend the life of the tank and avoid any system problems. They are as follows: 1. Survey the base pad for any signs of shifting, cracking or heaving which may cause the tank to be out of level. 2. Make sure the tank is sitting firmly on the base pad. www.atlantictankinnovations.com Mon to Fri, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (Atlantic Standard Time) 13

3. Visually inspect the entire tank, fittings and accessories, for any signs of damage or abnormality. 4. Inspect the pipe joints for any signs of leakage or wear. 5. Inspect the pipe hangers to make sure they are secure and supporting the weight of the pipes. 6. Check for any signs of oil on the surface of the tank or in the channel at the base of the tank. *IMPORTANT* If there are any issues discovered as a result of the above inspections, please contact your certified tank installer or ATI directly. In Canada, the recommended inspection and maintenance practices are described in the Canadian Oilheat Association (COHA) Today s Oilheat Technician s Manual, or other industry equivalents. In the US, the recommended inspection and maintenance practices are described in the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) s Heating Oil Storage Tanks, Guide for Quality Installation and Maintenance, or other industry equivalents.
