Technical Service BULLETIN December 22, 2007 Title: Models: 08 Scion xb BO022-07 BODY Introduction Some customers may experience a condition where the left hand upper cowl reinforcement cover may become warped due to contact with the rear edge of the hood. A new LH cowl reinforcement is now available to correct this concern. Use the following procedure to improve this condition. Refer to the Technical System (TIS), 2008 model year Scion xb Manual, Vehicle Exterior Wiper/Washer Wiper and Washer: Front Wiper Motor: Removal. 1. Remove the wiper arm nut covers. Wrap the tip of a flat blade screwdriver with tape and use the tip of the screwdriver to disengage the claw and remove the 2 plastic nut covers (LH/RH). LH Mark Position 2. Prior to removing the wiper arm/blade assembly, note the exact location of the parked position of the wiper blade tip. The mark location is a 2 1/2 mm (0.1 in.) diameter clear round dot located in the lower blackout portion of the windshield. RH Mark Position Page 2 of 5
3. Remove the front wiper arm and blade assembly LH. A. Remove the retaining nut from the pivot shaft. B. Gently move the base of the wiper arm up and down while pulling the arm away from the pivot shaft. 4. Remove the front wiper arm and blade RH using the same technique used for the LH arm/wiper blade. 5. Remove the hood to cowl top seal (disengage the 5 attaching clips and remove the seal from the cowl). : Clip 6. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver (cowl reinforcement cover) RH. A. Remove the clip. B. Disengage the 6 claws and remove the cover. : Claw Page 3 of 5
7. Remove the cowl top ventilator louver (cowl reinforcement cover) LH. A. Remove the clip. B. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the cover. 8. Replace the LH cowl top ventilator louver (cowl reinforcement cover) with the NEW part by engaging the 2 claws and one clip. 9. Reinstall the RH cowl top ventilator louver (cowl reinforcement cover) by engaging the 6 claws and one clip. : Claw 10. Reinstall the hood to cowl top seal to the top of the cowl by engaging the 5 clips. 11. Use a small metal pick and a small stiff wire brush to scrape off any metal powder from the serrated area of the wiper arm pivot shaft RH and LH. 12. Align the tip of the LH wiper blade to the mark on the windshield described in step 2. 13. Install the wiper arm LH to the pivot shaft and torque the attaching nut. Torque: 26 N m (265 kgf cm, 19 ft lbf) Page 4 of 5
14. Install the wiper arm RH to the pivot shaft and torque the attaching nut. Torque: 26 N m (265 kgf cm, 19 ft lbf) 15. Install the windshield wiper arm covers and verify the proper operation of the wiper assemblies. When installing the new cowl reinforcement cover, be sure to push rearward and downward on the upper rear edge of the cover. Make sure the cover lays flat against the A pillar and is in a position where the hood will NOT make contact with the cover. Page 5 of 5
