DeVilbiss & &0 SERVICE BULLETIN SB-2-239-D Replaces SB-2-239-C Repair Kit KK-4987-1 JGHV-530 Suction Feed High Volume low Pressure Spray Gun IMPORTANT: Before using this equlpment,'read all safety precautions and Instructions Keep for future use DESCRIPTION All wetted surfaces are stainless steel and may be used with materials formulated with chlorinated solents, The suction feed JGHV gun is designed to apply a wide ariety of finishing materials This gun was manufactured to proide maximum transfer efficiency by limiting air cap pressure to 10 psi (complies with rules Issued by SCAQMD and other air quality authorities) The gun is intended tor use with suction feed paint supply This gun will produce approximately 10 psi cap pressure at 65 psi gun inlet pressure, as measured at the gun inlet An air cap test kit (see Accessories) should be used to insure 1 o psi air cap pressure is not exceeded INSTALLATION For maximum transfer efficiency, do not use more pressure than Is necessary to atomize the material being applied Connect the gun to a clean, moisture and oil free air supply using a hose size of at least 516" JD hose Aoid use of quick detachable connectors Do not use 14" ID hose (25' x 1 4" hose at 18 CFM has a pressure loss of 25 psi 25' x 516" hose at 18 CFM has a pressure loss of 8 psi) Depending on hose length, larger I D hose may be required Install an HAV-501 air gauge at the gun handle and air cap test kit oer tip When gun is triggered on, adjust regulated pressure to desired setting to proide a maximum of 1 0 psi at the air cap Do not use more pressure than Is necessary to atomize the material being applied Excess p;essure will create additional oerspray and reduce transfer efficiency OPERATION Strain material thru 60 or 90 mesh screen Best atomization will occur with 10 psig air cap pressure Howeer, some materials can be sprayed at lower pressures, improing transfer efficiency Make sure ent hole in suction cup is clean Open fluid adjusting screw (32) by turning counterclockwise Tum on air supply and set gun inlet pressure to lowest recommended pressure tor material being sprayed Spray a test area If finer atomization or increased fluid flow rates are required, increase gun inlet pressure If reduced fluid flow rates are required, turn fluid adjusting screw (32) clockwise until desired fluid flow is obtained If an air adjusting ale is used atthe gun inlet, use DeVilbiss Model HAV-500 or HAV-501 Some competnie adjusting ales hae significant pressure drop that can adersely affect spray performance Models HAV-500 and HAV-501 hae minimal pressure drop, which is important tor HVLP spraying See Spray Gun Guide, SB-2-001 latest reision, tor details concerning set up of spray guns PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE To clean air cap and fluid tip, brush exterior with a stiff bristle brush If necessary to clean cap holes, use a broom straw or toothpick Neer use a wire or hard Instrument This may scratch or burr holes causing a distorted spray pattern To clean fluid passages, remoe excess material from suction cup Wash out cup with solent Wipe off cup suction tube, then fill cup with solent Spray until fluid passages are clean Wipe gun exterior with a solent dampened cloth Neer completely immerse in solent as this is detrimental to the performance and gun life expectancy, as well as destroying the lubricants and packings

Page 2 SB-2-239-D SAFETY PRECAUTIONS This manual contains information that is improtant for you to know and understand This information relates to USER SAFETY and PREVENTING EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS To help you recognize this information, we use the following symbols Please pay particular attention to these sections I WARNING Important safety Information A hazard that may cause serious Injury or loss of lite Important Information that tells how to preent damage to equipment, or how to aoid a situation that may cause minor lnury WARNING Information that you should pay special attention to The following hazards may occur during the normal use of this equip ment Please read the following chart before using this equipment I Area Hazard Tells what hazard Is Safeguard Tells how to aoid the hazard Solent Spray During cleaning and flushing, solents can be forcefully expelled from fluid and air passages Some solents can cause eye injury Smcking must neer be allowed in the spray area Fire extinguishing equipment must be present in the spray area Wear eye protection Explosion Hazard - Materials Certain materials may be harmful if inhaled, or if there is contact with the skin Halogenated hydrocarbon solents -tor example; methylene chloride and 1, 1, 1 -Trichloroethane can chemically react with aluminum The chemical reaction caused by these solents reacting with aluminum can become iolent and lead to an equipment explosion Follow the requirements of the Material Safety Data Sheet supplied by your coating material manufacturer Adequate exhaust must be proided to keep the air free of accumulations of toxic materials Use a mask or respirator wheneer there is a chance of inhaling sprayed materials The mask must be compatible with the material being sprayed and its concentration Equipment must be as prescribed by an industrial hygienst or safety expert, and be NIOSH approed This gun can be used with these solents Howeer, aluminum is widely used in other spray application equipment - such as, material pumps, cups, regulators, ales, etc Check all other equipment items before use and make sure they can also be used safely with these solents Read the label or material data sheet for the material you intend to spray If in doubt as to whether or not a coating or cleaning material is compatible, contact your material supplier
