Hi-Way Model SA-6C 304 Stainless Steel Under Tailgate Spreader GENERAL 1. The under tailgate spreader required in these specifications shall be hydraulically operated and shall consist of a steel trough, 6 diameter auger conveyor, spinner disc, and power drive. 2. The spreader shall be capable of evenly spreading various types of granular material and/or chemicals for ice control such as sand, salt, calcium chloride, or mixtures up to a width of forty feet. 3. The overall trough width shall not exceed 96.5. 4. All sheet steel gauges and bar stock sizes listed throughout this specification will conform to ASTM standards. 5. Bidders must submit their bid with complete specifications on the unit they propose to furnish. Bids with exceptions to these specifications will be considered informal. The use of any other standards will not be considered. HOPPER 1. One-piece ¼ 304 stainless steel endplates shall be fully welded to 7- gauge, 304 stainless steel, formed front and rear trough panels. 2. The unit will have a 7-gauge 304 stainless steel, 3 point hinged bottom panel that will expose the entire length of the auger for ease in clean out and service when open. 3. The hinged bottom will be held closed by two heavy-duty cam locks and will include a lift handle for convenience in operation. 4. The 7-gauge 304 stainless steel combination cover and back plate will be a one piece hinged integral part of the unit. 5. This cover will be capable of being locked in either the raised position (for spreading) or the lowered position (for dumping) by a single latch on each side of the cover. 6. The anti-flow cover plate will be 10-gauge 304 stainless steel and will be removable without the use of tools. AUGER MECHANISM 1. The six-inch diameter auger shall consist of 3/8 helicoid flighting welded to a 2-1/2 Schedule 40 pipe. 2. This auger will be supported by a 1-1/4 C-1045 steel shaft on the end opposite the drive. 3. The auger shall have bi-directional flighting to ensure that material is fed evenly both sides of the dump body to the left hand discharge port. 4. On the side opposite the drive mechanism the auger shaft will be supported in a 2-bolt flange, sealed, self-aligning bearing with a grease fitting for lubrication. 5. The drive end of the auger will couple directly to an independent, 10- gauge 304 stainless steel end plate. A hydraulic motor, capable of delivering high torque at low speeds will couple directly to the auger pipe through a non-corrosive sleeve and a ½ grade-8 bolt. s Page 1 of 4 Spec-SA6C 304 stainless 12-022

Hi-Way Model SA-6C 304 Stainless Steel Under Tailgate Spreader SPINNER 1. The spinner will consist of a single 18 polyurethane disc with six formed radial thrust vanes molded into a single unit. 2. This disc shall be capable of producing a uniform spread pattern four to forty feet in width. 3. An orbital type hydraulic motor capable of delivering high torque at low speed will be directly coupled to this disc through a cast iron hub. 4. The spinner assembly will be adjustable, allowing for variable spread patterns of left, center, or right by sliding the spreader frame on the support shaft so that the point at which the material is deposited to the spinner disc is varied. 5. The direction of material spread shall be adjusted by a curved adjustable steel baffle. This baffle shall be constructed 10-gauge 304 stainless steel. 6. The spinner assembly will be easily removed by pulling two pins and uncoupling two hydraulic hoses. 7. The spinner assembly will be linked to the truck frame with a universally mounted parallel arm to keep the spinner horizontal to the road surface at a dump box angle of up to 55 degrees horizontal. 8. An integral spinner shield will be provided to prevent material striking the back of the truck. POWER DRIVE 1. The spinner speed and the auger feed rate will be both independently variable through the optional dual flow control valve. s PAINT 1. Prior to the assembly of the unit, all components are to be individually cleaned with an iron phosphate treatment. 2. The main 304 stainless steel spreader body is to be unpainted; non-304 stainless steel bolt-on components are painted black. 3. All painted components are to be oven cured and then assembled into a working unit. MOUNTING Deleted: TRIP PLOW MECHANISM:... [1] 1. The spreader described in these specifications will rigidly fasten to the sides of the dump body using a heavy-duty quick disconnect design. 2. Included with each unit will be an Operation and Maintenance Manual, covering the installation, maintenance, operation, and parts listing for the unit. 2. Also included will be an Operation and Maintenance Safety Manual that will promote safe operation and maintenance procedures. MANUFACTURING & LABELING PRACTICES 1. All sheet steel and bar stock gauges listed in these specifications must conform to ASTM standards. 2. All welding performed must be in accordance with AWS procedures and guidelines. 3. All components described within these pages shall be qualified for a 13 month warranty should the proper registration procedures be followed. Manufacturer s standard warranty shall be attached to these specifications upon return. OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES 5:1 GEAR CASE DRIVE 1. In lieu of a direct drive hydraulic motor the auger shall be driven by 5:1 reduction gearbox. 2. The gearbox shall connect to the auger shaft by a non-corrosive sleeve with a ½ grade-8 bolt. 3. The gear box shall have a bronze worm gear drive. HYDRAULIC HOSE & FITTINGS AT REAR 1. All hoses and fittings required to make a complete installation the spreader to the rear of the truck shall be furnished. 2. All hose and fittings shall comply with SAE industry accepted standards. HYDRAULIC HOSE AND FITTINGS FROM VALVE TO REAR OF TRUCK 1. All hoses and fittings required to make a complete installation the incab control valve to the rear of the truck chassis shall be furnished. HYDRAULIC HOSE AND FITTINGS FROM RESERVOIR TO PUMP TO VALVE 1. All hoses and fittings required to plumb the hydraulics the reservoir to the dual control valve shall be furnished. CONTROLS FOR CAB INSTALLATION MANUAL DUAL 1. Hi-Way Model SA-6C 304 Stainless Steel Under Tailgate Spreader RESERVOIR AND FILTER 1. Reservoir shall be a minimum of 12-gallon capacity and be equipped with breather-type filler cap. 2. The filter assembly will have a 10-micron spin on type filter element and be equipped with a condition indicator. HYDRAULIC QUICK DISCONNECT COUPLERS 1. Quick disconnect couplers will be provided at the rear of the truck for unit hydraulics. Must be Aero-Quip FD45 or equal. HYDRAULIC PUMP 1. A thru-shaft, gear-type hydraulic pump rated for 1500 PSI with a capacity of 20-25 gallon per minute at the normal engine operating speed shall be provided with necessary hardware for installation to truck transmission PTO. The parallel wing braces, extension spring and front trip, provide a safety trip actuation whenever the wing encounters an obstruction on the plowing surface. 7/8/2002 3:11:00 PM Provision for locking out the tripping mechanism shall be supplied for operating conditions requiring a rigid wing. The lockout bolt shall be a 3/4", grade 5 single shear. Tripping actuation shall be accomplished on the front through a 7/8" diameter wire torsion spring and a tension spring mounted on the top rear parallel brace. The two (2) springs operating in tandem shall return the patrol wing to its normal operating position following trip actuation. Both trip springs can be adjusted to increase or decrease trip forces. The front trip shall have a hinge pin with not less than a 2-3/8" outside diameter.
