I. OPERATION FLOW CHART Verify Vehicle Eligibility 1. Check the VIN range. 2. Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System. Not Covered No further action required. Covered Inspect both the driver and passenger side B-pillar garnish for proper installation. NG Replace B-pillar garnish that did not pass the inspection OK OK Inspect the replaced B-pillar garnish for proper installation. NG Campaign completed, return the vehicle to the customer. Reattach the B-pillar garnish that did not pass the inspection II. IDENTIFICATION OF AFFECTED VEHICLES A. COVERED VIN RANGE Note: Although the involved vehicles are within the above VIN ranges, not all vehicles within these ranges were sold in your country. III. PREPARATION A. PARTS Parts are not required for all vehicles; it anticipated that very few vehicles will require parts. Trim color Part Number Part Name Qty/Unit Gray 62410-0C040-B2 Center Pillar Garnish, RH 1 62420-0C040-B2 Center Pillar Garnish, LH 1 Beige 62410-0C040-E2 Center Pillar Garnish, RH 1 62420-0C040-E2 Center Pillar Garnish, LH 1 B. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT Standard hand tools Protective Tape Flashlight Torque wrench Thickness gauge 2

IV. BACKGROUND The subject vehicles are equipped with side Curtain-Shield-Airbags (CSA) which deploy from the roof rails in the event of certain types of collisions. Due to the possible misinstallation of the upper tab of the B-pillar Upper Garnish, the garnish could interfere with the CSA in the event of a deployment. If the interference is sufficient, the CSA may not achieve its intended inflated shape. In some situations, this could increase the risk of injury to an occupant in the event of a crash. 3

V. B-PILLAR GARNISH INSTALLATION POSITION INSPECTION A. VEHICLE DISASSEMBLY AND PREPARATION These instructions describe the repair for one side, the same procedure should be used for the opposite side. 1. PULL WEATHERSTRIPPING AWAY FROM B-PILLAR a) Gently pull away the weather striping from the B-pillar for all four doors. 2. APPLY PROTECTIVE TAPE TO THE VEHICLES BODY a) Apply protective tape to the vehicles body as shown on all four doors to ensure the paint does not get scratched during the inspection process. B. GARNISH INSTALLATION POSITION INSPECTION 3. PREPARE THE THICKNESS GAUGE SET a) Stack Thickness gauges so that they are 2.0 mm (0.078 in) thick. b) Use tape to secure the Thickness gauge blades together NOTE: It may be necessary to reorganize the feeler gauge blade stack to ensure that the feeler gauge blades have no gap between them. 1. THERE ARE 2 INSPECTION LOCATIONS FOR EACH B-PILLAR GARNISH a) When inspecting the garnish position, you will need to check the two reinforcement ribs on either side of the garnish upper tab. Top view of garnish installed on a B-pillar Backside View of B-pillar Garnish 4

2. CHECK THE GAP BETWEEN THE BODY STRUCTURE AND THE B-PILLAR TAB REINFORMENT RIBS a) Using a small flashlight or pen light illuminate the back side of the garnish so you can locate the reinforcement ribs. b) From the front door check the clearnce between the B-pillar garnish tab reinforcement ribs and the body structure using the feeler gauge. c) From the rear door check the clearance between the B-pillar garnish tab reinforcement ribs and the body structure using the feeler gauge. d) Repeat the inspection on the other side of the vehicle. NOTE: From the rear door the SRS wire harness will need to be gently pushed out of the way to check the clearance. You must check the gap between the 2 ribs and the body structure; ensure that you are measuring at the correct location as shown. Please take care to do not apply any damage to SRS wire harness. Below are pictures of Good and NG conditions. Each position checked on the B-Pillar garnish must pass the criteria below. Good Condition (Extreme Close Up) (Feeler Gauge Interferes with ribs) Good Condition (Feeler Gauge fits with tension) NG Condition (Extreme Close Up) (Feeler Fits Loosely) Good Condition: Reinstall weatherstripping and return the vehicle to the customer. NG Condition: Procced to section VI for garnish replacement. 5

VI. REPLACE THE CENTER PILLAR GARNISH Replacement shall be performed for the center pillar garnish that was determined as unacceptable in the inspection. 1. TURN BACK THE FRONT & REAR DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP 2. REMOVE THE FRONT & REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE 3. DISCONNECT THE OUTER LAP BELT ANCHOR 4. REMOVE THE LOWER CENTER PILLAR GARNISH 5. REMOVE THE ASSIST GRIP 6. REMOVE THE CENTER PILLAR GARNISH After removing the bolt and clip at the bottom of the garnish, take care so as not to break the claw at the top of the center pillar garnish by forcibly moving it. a) Remove the bolt at the bottom of the center pillar garnish. b) Disengage the clip at the bottom of the center pillar garnish. c) Remove the claw at the top of the center pillar garnish. If replacing it with a NEW one, mark the old one, and then store it in a replacement parts box so that it will no longer be re-assembled. 7. INSTALL THE CENTER PILLAR GARNISH a) Move the seat belt to its topmost position on both garnish and seat belt sides to adjust the height of the shoulder portion of the seat belt. NOTE: Make sure that the garnish and the belt fit correctly by doing so. 6

b) Pass the front seat outer belt floor anchor through the center pillar garnish. NOTE: Do not twist the seat belt. c) Insert the claw at the top of a new center pillar garnish into a hole of the body. Make sure that the claw is inserted into the hole fully. d) Engage the clip at the bottom of the center pillar garnish. e) Attach a bolt at the bottom of the center pillar garnish. Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) f) Reinstall the assist grip. Torque: 12 N*m (122 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure that the claw of a cap is not protruded from the seating surface for mounting the assist grip. 8.
