PRESS info P1301EN 17 October 2013 Scania at Busworld 2013 in Kortrijk, Belgium Solutions that make a difference here and now Scania s bus and coach solutions have an immediate effect on the bottom line. Vehicles and services are tailored to any type of traffic demand: Scania makes a major effort to partner with its customers, jointly designing transport solutions and bus systems to suit local conditions. A host of services, including remote diagnostics, help to lower operating costs and make the best out of drivers skills. Scania s new products on display at Busworld 2013 include a complete range of Euro 6 vehicles featuring a new 7-litre engine. New gas/biogas and biodiesel engines with intercity and long-distance performance. For regular service operators shopping for Euro 6 vehicles, Scania provides its widest service and product portfolio ever, including support to promote driver skills. Occasional service operators also have access to a full range of Euro 6 solutions and a very competitive choice of vehicles and support systems. With the broadest-ever product portfolio, Scania provides solutions for Euro 3, Euro 4 and Euro 5 markets as well. Operational support unique Scania offer The vehicles on display at Busworld all have Scania-designed bodywork and are typical of the Scania buses and coaches sold in markets worldwide. The same configurations are marketed in even larger numbers together with local preferred bodybuilding partners. In general, full parts and service coverage is offered to customers via the Scania sales and service network. Fleet management and maintenance services are tailored to suit each operator s needs. Most advantageous economically are the driver and vehicle services that include individual monitoring and feedback to fine-tune the way the vehicle is driven and operated. Customised driver training can be provided, adapted to each type of operation. Personal driver coaching can be offered if required to perfect driving techniques. 2 (9) Workshop services include various repair and maintenance agreements and may involve taking over and running the customer s workshop, even for other vehicle brands. Preventive maintenance and remote diagnostics are part of the service offering, enabling diagnostics to be run on Scania vehicles to determine what attention is required in preparation for a workshop visit. Support for drivers the most important actors Scania Driver Support is an integrated feature on Scania coaches and intercity vehicles. Designed to promote safe and fuel-efficient driving, while reducing wearand-tear, the system provides real-time hints and advice for drivers to improve or maintain skills acquired during driver training. The parameters monitored include: Hill-driving (how to negotiate hills and crests) Anticipation (how traffic situations are handled and the interplay between acceleration and retardation) Brake use (combined use of brakes, accelerator and auxiliary brakes, with electronic braking system) Gear selection (in case gearchanging is done manually). The messages are shown discreetly in the central instrument and the driving score is summarised for each stint at the wheel. Scania Active Prediction is an option on long-distance coaches and intercity buses equipped with Scania Opticruise automated gearchanging. This is a GPS-based cruise control system that automatically adapts the cruising speed to the topography of the route to minimise fuel use and maximise passenger comfort. Speed adjustments are made in accordance with a topographical map stored on-board. In markets where GPS data are unavailable, Scania Ecocruise is offered instead as a fuel-saving option. Advanced Emergency Braking is designed to prevent or mitigate tailback collisions and is available on long-distance coaches and intercity buses. The system features lane departure warning that alerts the driver when lane markings are passed inadvertently. Adaptive Cruise Control is optional. Vehicles on display at Busworld The four vehicles represent the most common regular and occasional service configurations sold in Europe. Scania Citywide LF 21+2-seater 12 m 4x2 full low-floor city bus with maximum passenger capacity and throughput with 2-2-2 door configuration (sliding doors optional). The new 7-litre 280 hp Euro 6 diesel engine and automatic transmission provide ample performance for citycentre operation. Robust and weight-saving all-aluminium body with 21+2 seats. Scania Citywide LE 53+2-seater 14.8 m 6x2 low-entry gas bus with a steered tag axle mounted behind the drive axle. The Euro 6 gas engine provides strong diesel-like performance and driveability with 340 hp and the exceptional torque rating of 1,600 Nm. Automatic

3 (9) transmission. Generous passenger capacity makes the bus suitable for regular service in city as well as short and medium distance. 1-1-1 doors. Scania OmniExpress 3.40 57-seater 13.0 m 4x2 high-decker coach with 360 hp SCR-only Euro 6 engine. Scania Opticruise automated gearchanging. 57 seats, 1-1-0 doors. Highly flexible bodywork that can be finely adapted in terms of length and height. Scania Touring 49-seater 12.0 m 4x2 high-decker coach fitted with a 450 hp Euro 6 engine with a full 2,350 Nm of torque and Scania Opticruise automated gearchanging. This powertrain combination provides effortless performance on the most demanding coach routes. 1-1-0 doors. In addition to Euro 6, Scania offers similar vehicle configurations with Euro 3, Euro 4 or Euro 5 powertrains according to market requirements. Scania is also delivering thousands of vehicles to bus systems all over the world. These vehicles are generally customised to suit a city s traffic system. Special solutions are often developed in close cooperation with the customer or the traffic authority, solutions that may involve vehicle lengths, wheel configurations, number of axles and door configurations. Virtually anything is possible using the Scania modular product system. New Euro 6 powertrains including the new 7-litre engine Scania s comprehensive range of 9- and 13-litre Euro 6 engines 250/280/320/360 hp and 410/450/490 hp respectively is complemented with a new 280 hp 7-litre engine with 1,100 Nm of torque that offers weight savings and yet provides adequate performance for city operation. This new 6-cylinder engine is mounted either longitudinally for low-entry or transversely for low-floor operation. Whereas Euro 6 emission levels are achieved using EGR and SCR technologies, the new 410 hp 13-litre unit meets Euro 6 standards with only SCR. This solution is eminently suitable for most types of coaches in long-distance operation. Typical of all Scania engines is the healthy torque delivery at low engine revs, a trait that makes for low engine revs, low fuel consumption and effortless performance in all circumstances. Euro 6 runs on biodiesel, biogas and bioethanol Four engine variants 320/360 hp and 450/490 hp are available for operation on up to 100 percent biodiesel. These outputs provide excellent performance for intercity and long-distance operation. A 280 hp bioethanol engine is pending, enabling further CO2 reductions. The new 280 and 340 hp 9-litre Euro 6 gas engines are adapted to run either on natural gas or on biogas. Designed to provide the same performance as their dieselfuelled counterparts, these gas engines have class-leading torque ratings of 1,350 and 1,600 Nm at low engine revs and fuel economy that is even better than Euro 5.

4 (9) Scania thus also offers generous gas bus performance for intercity operation. Tank solutions for liquefied gas are in preparation, which will virtually double the operating range. EURO 6 RANGE OVERVIEW Scania Citywide is a new comprehensive family of elegant low-floor and low-entry urban buses that incorporate the styling theme pioneered by the Scania Touring range.
