SEGTOA Save The Date! 2017 Events June 26 July 1 Saturday July 29 Saturday August 5 September October December GTOAA Nationals Springfield, Illinois Acworth Cruise In - 4PM SEGTOA Picnic Red Top Mountain State Park Hubcaps & History Old Downtown Marietta Tail of the Dragon overnight trip SEGTOA Christmas Party Sort of late by this time, but just in case: Information on the GTOAA Nationals can be found at http://www.gtoaa.org/nationals/. Hosted by the Gateway GTO Association. The Acworth Cruise-In is our next official event. It only happens a few times a year. Be there before 3PM if you want to park with the group. We ll try to save you a spot! Discussions will center around the picnic and Tail of the Dragon. The Annual SEGTOA picnic is Saturday August 5 at Red Top Mountain State Park, Shelter #7. This is the same location that we have had for the past 3 years. SEGTOA will handle the cost for the food & drink through Williamson Bros BBQ. SEGTOA members and their guests are welcome to bring their favorite picnic food to share with the group. Please email me your RSVP's (yes or no) because we will need to finalize the food order by a certain date. Please include how many in your party (member's name(s) and/or family member or guest). Hubcaps and History is a nice smaller show in Old Downtown Marietta. We usually get a pretty good group at this show, and it s always a good time. The annual Tail of the Dragon overnight trip is shaping up for late October. We ll provide informational emails as the dates approach. The picnic and Christmas party are the two biggest SEGTOA events of the year, and we d like to see them get even bigger. The more people we can get at these events, the more fun they are. The Tail of the Dragon overnight trip never disappoints, and we d like to see a few more cars and people for that one as well. If you have any ideas for club events, please shoot me an email! Tech Tips: Gimme a Brake! Currently working on replacing the front brakes (and lots of other parts) on a 68 GTO, we had rebuilt the rear brakes (the parking brake wouldn t work, and parts were missing) but the front brakes seemed fine.however, with more driving, there was less braking the longer the car was driven. Sounded like a heat build-up problem. What I found was a mismatched rotor and caliper. A 1969 one piece rotor was paired with a 1968 four-piston caliper. The 1968 rotor was a 2 piece unit (rotor with separate hub). The 1968 caliper was rubbing on the 1969 rotor. NOT GOOD! The 4 piston caliper for 68 had its own problems, even back-in-the-day. How long it had been on there? The correct 68 rotor/hub is available, as is the caliper, but they re very expensive, plus an additional $150.00 core charge for each wheel! The answer: a new Right Stuff Detailing Disk Brake wheel kit. A big cost savings! Everything in one kit, AND you are able to use a stock steel 14 wheel if you desire. It s not finished yet due to 50 yearold ball joints, lower control arm bushings, etc. Someday, I ll do an article on how to remove a rusted on lower control arm bushing bolt using alignment spacers and a pickle fork. Not a pretty sight! - John Link 7
