Text 1 Applying for a driving licence Before you can start learning to drive a car, moped or motorcycle you must apply for a provisional driving licence. If you already hold a valid full driving licence and want to learn to drive larger vehicles, minibuses or buses you will need to complete another application form. Applying for a provisional licence To apply for a provisional driving licence you need to complete a D1 application form. This form is available from the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or your local Post Office. When you send the form, you will need to enclose: documents that confirm your identity a passport style colour photograph the fee of 50.00. Send your completed application and payment to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AD. Applying for a provisional licence to drive larger vehicles, minibuses and buses If you already hold a valid full licence and want to add larger vehicles, minibuses and buses you must complete the application form D2 and the medical report form D4. These are available from the DVLA. The D4 has to be completed by a doctor. The doctor will normally charge you for completing the report. When you send the form, you will need to enclose: documents that confirm your identity a passport style colour photograph your current driving license There is no fee required for the application. The address to send this information is DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BR When to expect your licence DVLA aims to deliver your driving licence to you within three weeks of receiving your application. It will take longer if your health or personal details have to be checked. You will need to wait for your new licence to arrive before driving. Please allow at least three weeks for your licence to arrive before contacting DVLA. On the back of your payment, please write your full name, address, date of birth and your driver number if known. Remember to sign and date your cheque and make it payable for the correct amount ensuring that the amount written in words matches the amount written in figures. We will need to return your application if your cheque is not made out correctly. Do not put a future date on your cheque. We cannot accept cheques that are post-dated and will return your application. Please do not send cash, bank notes or blank postal orders with your application. Our instructor will pick you up at home. You will spend four hours a day driving and one hour with one of our theory instructors practising for your theory test. You will have a one hour lunch break and we will provide lunch. This course is suitable for a learner driver with some driving experience. Package 2: 10 to 20 day course This course is suitable for learners with no previous driving experience. It offers a full programme of training to cover the practical and theory tests. Hours can be arranged over a minimum of 10 days but can be over a longer period to give you more time to practice with friends or family members and give yourself the best chance of passing first time. After the first two days of the programme, we will advise you on a personal plan to suit you. Note about theory tests Your theory test can be booked directly with the DSA.
