Introductions Review Objectives and Norms Our agenda for today Review and approve the October Minutes Review Map Options Committee Feedback on Options Develop a communication plan to gather feedback from the community

Objectives Analyze each of our attendance area options for elementary and attendance areas. Engage in a process to prioritize our options. Plan how to engage the broader Bellingham community in feedback about our options.

Norms Be Respectful Hear and consider all opinions and perspectives Acknowledge that all participants bring with them legitimate purposes, goals, concerns and interests whether or not you agree with them Ensure all voices are heard/everyone gets a chance to share their thoughts and feelings View disagreement as a constructive and important part of the problem-solving process Be Stewards of the Process Seek creative ideas and solutions that address studentcentered interests State concerns and interests clearly, listen carefully to and assume the best in others Balance advocacy with inquiry Work towards consensus and expect compromise Seek input from those most impacted Be Productive Respect time constraints Be forward-thinking, anticipate future needs Use parking lot for additional issues/questions Bring a sense of humor and have fun - judiciously

Policy 3130 The following factors shall be considered when the district develops and adjusts attendance areas, boundaries, and considers student transfers: Minimize disruption of student s established learning programs. Keep siblings in the same elementary, middle or high school, whenever possible. Provide overall balance of student enrollment related to facility size, taking into account future growth patterns. Provide a reasonably balanced socio-economic relationship in all schools. Provide the most efficient and feasible means for student transportation to and from school, including whether safe routes to school might exist, minimizing travel time and transportation costs. Keep neighborhoods together, whenever possible. Maintain feeder schools patterns so that elementary/middle/high school attendance areas coincide and students stay with the same cohort as they progress through school levels, whenever possible. Follow natural boundaries and utilize existing physical boundaries such as major roadways to delineate boundaries, whenever possible. *http://bellinghamschools.org/policies/3130-policy/

Provide Feedback on Options Red: I do not think we should move forward with this option. Nor gather feedback. Yellow: I have some reservations. We need feedback from the community on this option. Green: I think this is a strong option and I want to hear feedback. Place your dots on the posters. Each person will get two dots for each color. You may place two greens on the same Option, etc.

How should we gather feedback from the community? Some starting points for your consideration: School visits: What is important for hosting a meeting at a particular school? How should invites be sent? Which schools first? What format helps people get information and dialogue about what they are hearing. Who is presenting? Survey: Do we need an online survey? Why or why not? If we do, what questions do we ask? How do we share our information? Community Locations: Are there places in our community we should hold a meeting about attendance areas other than a school? What is the format? G1: April Barker, G2: Ken Putney, G3: Carrie Glimm, G4: Ben Goodwin, G5: Tommy Lingbloom
