Recommended. 12V AC Electronic Transformer: Light Plugz may not be compatible with certain electronic transformers such as those used to light up halogen lamps. As a result of high frequency switching, in-rush current may damage the LED. High frequency switching also generates voltage spikes which may harm the sensitive solid state components. Some electronic transformers requrie a minimum load much higher than the actual consumption of Light Plugz in order to work properly. Thorough testing before use is recommended. 12V AC Magnetic Transformer: Light Plugz are typically compatible with magnetic trasnformers, but some models may allow in-rush current to pass through and affect the reliability of the LED components. Using a surge protector in conjunction with a magnetic transformer is recommended. LED DC Constant current driver: Light Plugz already has an internal constant current driver, so an external constant current driver is not required and not recommended. *** Symptoms of incompatibility include zero light output, fl ickering, strobing, random shutdowns and premature LED failure. Thermal Regulation: Light Plugz should not be installed in air tight fi xtures unless there is suffi cient heat sink surface area in direct contact with the inner surface of the fixture. Maximize heat transfer with thermal tape or approved thermal compounds. Light Plugz must be used with a properly sized heat sink screwed fl ush against the lens cap. Approved brands of thermal compounds should be applied to the threads to eliminate any air gaps. After prolonged operation, the heat sink surface should be slightly hot but not scalding. If scalding or cold, it is not working properly. Customers may use self-designed heat sinks with approval of thermal design. Safety Guidelines: Wire circuit path must be free of obstructions or sharp points Only UL approved power supply units should be used with the following protective measures: Short-circuit protection Overload Protection Overheating Protection Do not pull on, rupture, twist, damage or pinch the wires. Do not expose the lead wire splice connection. Turn transformer off before connecting Plugz. Do not exceed the maximum load of the power supply. Do not submerge Light Plugz in water or expose the wire connection to moisture. Use silicone-filled wire nuts for outdoor splice connections.
