CONEBI Established in 1960, representing the European Bicycle, Pedal Assist Cycle, Parts & Accessories Industries 15 National Bicycle Industry Associations as Members 800 SMEs and 90.000 jobs in Europe 2

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) In the very near future vehicles will interact directly with each other and with the road infrastructure 3

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The mentioned interaction is the domain of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), which will allow road users and traffic managers to share information and use it to coordinate their actions This cooperative element enabled by digital connectivity is expected to significantly improve road safety and traffic efficiency by helping the driver to take the right decisions and adapt to the traffic situation 4

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The work towards Smart Bikes/E-Bikes has started and we have examples 5

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The scenario will develop towards monitoring platforms for the real-time acquisition of usage data i.e. location (global positioning system) and other custom sensor input in real time. Riders will be able to check their own data and share them on social media. These will be examples of the Internet of Things in the cycling context 6

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The role of the European Commission and the United Nations 7

Next event Brussels 2018 (date to be decided) 8

A very short overview of the working groups in the EU (Brussels) and the United Nations (Geneva) on ITS, Connectivity and Access to Data Eurobike 31 st August 2017 19

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The role of the European Commission and the United Nations 20

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The role of the European Commission: the C-ITS platform C-ITS platform: The European Commission decided in 2014 to take a prominent role in the deployment of connected driving, by setting up a C-ITS Deployment Platform. The Platform is conceived as a cooperative framework including national authorities, C-ITS stakeholders and the Commission, in view of developing a shared vision on the interoperable deployment of C-ITS in the EU. The work is not finished, and the platform is expected to provide policy recommendations for the development of a roadmap and a deployment strategy for C-ITS in the EU. 21

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The role of the European Commission in addition to the C-ITS platform 1/2 DG MOVE (Mobility and Transport) 22

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The role of the European Commission in addition to the C-ITS platform 2/2 DG GROW (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SME's) 23

Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The role of the United Nations World Forum for the Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29), the ITS/AD WG of the WP.29 and Road Traffic Safety (WP.1): these are the fora within UNECE where all the discussions at global level take place between World Institutions, Ministries, Industry and Road Safety organisations. Connectivity is not only an European matter, as the concept of mobility is changing in other regions as well: global harmonization and involvement of global stakeholders is the way forward. 24
