Drills 1. Firm grip on drill Drills 2. Unplug drill before removing or installing drill bit 3. Make sure the key is removed before starting 4. Do not wear loose clothing 5. Secure the work firmly 6. Wear safety glasses 7. Make sure drill is properly grounded 8. Do not stand on wet surface when using a power tool

Drills Make sure to secure objects to the table or vise Never grab a spinning object Use some type of clapping device for small objects Grinders

Grinders(wire wheel) 1. Eye protection must be worn at all times. Safety glasses and Full Face shield recommended 2. All guards must be properly adjusted. 3. The tool rest must be adjusted to 1/8 from the wheel. 4. Do not grind on the side of the grinding wheel. Grinders (continue) 6. Small pieces should be held with vise grip type pliers. 7. A wheel that is excessively worn or cracked should be discarded. 8. The glass safety shield should be clean, 9. Stand to one side when starting the machine.

Impact wrenches 1. Safety glasses 2. Use only Impact sockets 3. Do not over tighten, Know the torque of the bolt you are tightening. Floor Jack

Jacks 1. Inspect before using (oil leaks, missing or loose parts) 2. Look up the proper lift points if you do not know where to lift the car. 3. Make sure the jack is secure and properly aligned under the car. 4. Apply park brake or block wheels so car will not roll 5. Never raise car while someone is under it Never trust a jack, no safety catches Jacks (continue) 6. After you start to raise the car examine your lift points double check to make sure it is secure plus properly aligned 7. Always use a jack stand

Vehicle hoists Car must be centered by where the weight is.. Check book for lift points Have instructor check them Double check before going under Bounce the car from all four corners after lifting the car 6 Double check before going under Make sure safety locks are on and all the way down

Hoists 1. Inspect your lift daily 2. Do not override the operating control 3. Always keep lift area free of obstructions and debris 4. Ask your instructor for demonstration and training before using. Hoists(continue) 5. Make sure vehicle is centered and secured before raising it up into the air. 6. Make sure locks are engaged before walking underneath 7. Before Lowering make sure area is clear and it will not hit anything.

The lift pads must all be screwed in or out so that they contact the car at the same time Correct lift points

Caution on FWD cars The rear axle has little strength. It s very easy to bend it out of alignment 1. Safety glasses Shop air 2. Do not spin bearings 3. Never aim an air hose at another student or at yourself 4. Be careful blowing off parts with blind holes it can redirect the air back at you.

Tire Changer 1. Safety glasses Tire Changer 2. Use correct lifting technique 3. Use a rubber lube to mount and dismount tires 4. Ask your instructor for demonstration and training before using.

Disc & Drum Brake lathe 1. Safety glasses 2. Know proper procedures for operation of lathe before using. Watch a demonstration from the instructor. Solvent tank 1. Safety glasses 2. Rubber gloves 3. Clean up any spills

Glass Beading Cabinet It s Like a sand blaster But we use glass. Not as Course (Softer finish) Glass beads 1. Make sure item to be glass beaded are free of water, oil, and greases 2. Blow off items with air before opening the door 3. Do not point blasting nozzle towards glass 4. Ask your instructor for demonstration and training before using.

Glass beads (continue) 5. Do not use air nozzle when door is open, close door when done. 6. If you blow off an item outside of the glass beader, please use eye protection. Gasoline 1. Store in an approved container (yellow cabinet in storage room) 2. Wipe up spills immediately 3. Never use as a cleaner. 4. When opening fuel lines use safety glasses, relieve fuel pump pressure and wrap a rag around the fuel line.

Liquids spilled on floor Clean up immediately with paper towel, rag or floor dry That s all folks
