HBM torque transducers Versatile torque transducers at work Nowadays torque transducers are used in just about every sector of industry. Here are some examples to show just how versatile they are. Maybe they can help in your business, too. Why not ask us? Test bench engineering The automotive industry needs high-precision test rigs for engines, gear boxes and rolling roads. Increasingly, when it comes to engine development, systems must combine exceptional dynamic response with outstanding costeffectiveness. Illustration: The specially developed T10F torque flange in combination with an overload coupling and directly flanged synchronous joint shaft. Process monitoring and control In the course of monitoring such processes as checking the viscosity in stirrers, granule processing or automatic screwed joints, the proportionality of torque to other associated measured quantities is frequently put to skilful use. System monitoring in rolling and processing mills, or during the manufacture of foils and laminates, relies on torque transducers for safety and reliability. in practice Drive and conveyor technology High power output is vital for drive and conveyor engineering. Torque and rotation speed form the main sources of this essential power. Precise acquisition of the relevant data is as critical for optimizing drive systems as it is for fundamental research. Illustration: T10F torque flange tolerates powerful lateral and axial forces. Quality assurance To make any impression on world markets, products must satisfy the most exacting quality standards. DIN ISO 9001 specifies that test equipment must be seen to comply fully with nationally recognized standards. HBM s torque scale from 2 to 20,000 Nm is officially approved by the PTB (German Metrology Institute) and makes it possible to trace back each measured quantity, as the standard requires. Research and development Torque transducers are an important measuring aid in research and development, since torque is dependent on both force and length for its value, and is therefore not easy to generate with great precision. Accessories for HBM torque transducers Couplings Flexible couplings make torque transducers easier to install. A flexible coupling also decouples unwanted interference effects from the shaft, ensures accurate measurement and extends service life. [1,000 rpm] 40 D We can also supply fully assembled and tested compound sets complete with test shaft and coupling. Curved-tooth couplings, bellows couplings and multidisk couplings are also available for several transducer types. Cable To ensure trouble-free electrical connection for transducers, HBM supplies cable sets made up in accordance with EMC guidelines. The amplifier cable is either unterminated or supplied complete with male connector, according to choice. 20 15 10 3 A T20WN C E B T32FN T34FN T10F A Bellows coupling B Renk SBG special curved-tooth coupling C Renk GLB special curved-tooth coupling D BSD Thomas coupling E BSD torsionally stiff MODULFLEX coupling 10
Calibration - torque Torque calibration by HBM experts The first laboratory ever to be accepted into the DKD (German Calibration Service) was at HBM in 1977. Accreditation of the torque DKD laboratory took place on July 13th, 1990. For many years HBM was the only calibration authority for torque in Germany and practically set the national standard. DKD German Calibration Service Association of calibration laboratories with assured quality Each laboratory is accredited by the PTB (German Metrology Institute) Calibration to working standard Calibration at the responsibility of the laboratory carrying out the calibration Traceability must be explicitly documented. At HBM this is by reference to DIN ISO 10012-1 For special applications the HBM service team can also perform calibration on site 11
