The media claims that today s cattle numbers are equivalent to what they were in the 1940 s. Our world human population continues to grow, and Canada is experiencing a tremendous amount of immigration. Consumers need to eat beef; protein is required in order to maintain a healthy diet. With the drastic decrease in the cow population and a growing human population, this trend cannot continue, without the cattle prices souring to high levels. Serious cattle producers need to position themselves for this cattle pricing boom. We are witnessing cattle producers exiting the business and I strongly believe now is not the time to get out. Now is the time for expansion, and to position your cowherd for when the mother load arrives. Agriculture commodities are experiencing larger producers, growing more volume. The grain, dairy and hog producers have developed into larger enterprises, and we have seen the feedlot industry turn into big capacity feedlots. The cow-calf producers are also following this trend, the cowherds are getting much larger, and some of the traditional ways of running these cow herds are also changing. The agriculture industry continues to face a labour shortage and we are finding cow/calf producers are forced to operate with cows that are less labour intensive, lower maintenance and continue to promote performance and profit. A down payment of 60 percent is necessary at the time of purchase, with balance due on November 30, of current year.
