POWERFLO EQUIPMENT & MACHINERY RANGE
POWERFLO EQUIPMENT An Overview Of The Benefits Compared to traditional high or low pressure systems, or cleaning equipment and practices commonly seen in New Zealand today, Powerflo equipment: Promotes a systematic, ordered way of cleaning Is easy for all cleaning staff to understand and use Is very ergonomic and a lot safer All in one concept does away with up to four different hose and nozzle sets Everything is kept together and is tidy with great visual appeal The design and engineering of Powerflo equipment guarantees long life, simple maintenance and ease of cleaning. Bringing all these facets together will greatly reduce your water and chemical usage and will significantly lower your energy and labour costs What is Powerflo? Our Powerflo brand is another name for clever innovation, robust quality and industry experience. It specifically relates to food factory cleaning systems but encompasses a very broad range of products and systems. It includes many unique styles of machinery, medium pressure technology, mobile cleaning units, chemical dosing systems, distribution units and Clean In Place (CIP) systems to name a few. Here is a broad overview of some of the concepts that have many benefits for food factories: MEDIUM PRESSURE WASHDOWN SYSTEMS What is Medium pressure? Taking your normal low pressure, large volume washdown water and boosting it to a pressure of 20-40 bar. What advantage does this give you? It decreases the amount of water used to clean. It increases the effectiveness of the cleaning, and in doing so, decreases the time taken to clean. Is it as simple as that? In essence, yes. However, the system s success is very dependent on having the right hardware (piping, hoses, couplers, guns, nozzles and lances) after the booster pump, to get the full benefit of it. 2 Hygiene Technologies Ltd 2014 CATALOGUE ISSUE DATE: SEPTEMBER 2014
0800 REAL CLEAN (732 525) www.hygienetech.co.nz How it compares to tradtional methods: The diagram at the below shows two commonly used wash down methods in New Zealand - high pressure (water blaster) and low pressure (standard 3-5 Bar pressure via hose and gun). These both come with certain disadvantages: HIGH PRESSURE systems have a narrow cleaning width which requires more time to cover the area to be cleaned than other systems, they have an aerosoling effect which promotes the spread of bacteria around the plant, they pose a higher risk of damage to plant and equipment and they are high maintenance. LOW PRESSURE systems, are huge wasters of water (higher cost for use/disposal and negative environmental impact), they are quite ineffective in cleaning performance resulting in greater reliance on chemical and time spent cleaning. MEDIUM PRESSURE washdown is where the factory water supply is boosted to between 20-40 Bar (290-580 psi) enabling an effective clean with the ultimate cleaning band width but without the negative effects listed above. Medium Pressure is the way of the future as it offers so many benefits to food processors with cost savings being just one of them. 3
MOBILE CLEANING SYSTEMS From foaming carts to all in one washdown, foaming and sanitising units, Powerflo has a mobile solution for your situation. Here are some examples: Powerflo Two Product Trolley Ruggedly built for use in food factories. The two product concept allows for a cleaning foam and sanitiser on the same unit and comes with a washdown nozzle for rinising off. Powerflo Technifoamer A truely portable unit that only requires compressed air to run. It produces an excellent quality shaving cream like foam, or if preferred, you can easily adjust it to a wetter foam. Powerflo Hurricane The full cleaning system on wheels. Simply plug this unit into water and three phase power and it will do the rest. Medium pressure washdown, or air assisted foam and sanitiser - all with the flick of a switch. 4 Hygiene Technologies Ltd 2014 CATALOGUE ISSUE DATE: SEPTEMBER 2014
0800 REAL CLEAN (732 525) www.hygienetech.co.nz CENTRALISED CHEMICAL DOSING What do we mean by Centralised? Chemical is dispensed from a bulk container through an automatic proportioning system. The mixture is then reticulated throughout the factory, as opposed to de-centralised systems, where the chemical is taken to the point of use as a concentrate and diluted there. Chemical concentration is set off-line, which means there is no interference from the operators. Central storage of chemicals means no concentrated chemicals stored in production areas. This has the major benefit of less handling of chemicals being required which is a great health and safety advantage (better compliance with overseas regulations which are becoming more stringent). Also, some other benefits of less handling of chemicals, are labour savings as well as lessening the risk of tampering withdilution settings. Chemicals are supplied in bulk where possible, due to reduced handling concerns as well as a reduced cost per litre of chemical. Separate water feed system means chemicals are diluted with cold water, unlike some European de-central systems, where it is diluted with the hot water used for rinsing. The Powerfo process significantly reduces surface corrosion and allows for maximum performance of the chemicals (especially the chlorinated ones) What is so good about the Powerflo centralised chemical dosing system, compared to what is commonly used in N.Z. today? Guaranteed dosage accuracy of +/- 0.1% of set point Flexible It can handle up to three different chemicals through one central system Runs at higher pressure and lower flow than other systems. This substantially reduces the amount of chemical used Dosing pumps require a lot less maintenance than commonly used proportioners such as Dosatron 5
DECENTRAL UNITS Whilst we always promote centralised chemical dosing over decentral because of the long term benefits, there is still application for decentral units if there are fewer than six cleanings stations. Decentral units differ from central systems in a number of ways however the primary difference is that all the components are located in the production room (chemicals, water pump etc). Different capacity units are available depending on the number of users. DISTRIBUTION UNITS Our distribution units are designed to tie together all the separate media used in cleaning a processing room, into one very easy to use, wall mounted mixing box. The media usually includes a pressurised cold water line, compressed air, pre-diluted alkaline detergent and prediluted sanitiser. Whatever is required by the cleaner at any particular stage, is selected by them from the easy to understand, colour coded valves on the top of the unit. The correct chemical/air mixture or pressurised water is then delivered to the cleaner via the quick connect coupler at the bottom of the unit. This attaches to an autoretract hose reel (optional), and a quick connect gun with interchangeable nozzles. These nozzles are for performing the different functions such as pre-clean, foam, rinse etc. and are colour coded to match the valves that supply those functions on the units. 6 Hygiene Technologies Ltd 2014 CATALOGUE ISSUE DATE: SEPTEMBER 2014
