5 March 2008 Industrial Production Index. Base 2000 January 2008 The Industrial Production Index adjusted for calendar effects increases 0.7% in January as compared to the same month in 2007 The General Industrial Production Index (IPI) experienced a -0.2% variation in January 2008, in comparison with the same month the previous year. After adjusting for calendar effects, the interannual variation of the IPI was estimated at 0.7%. By economic destination of the goods, the variation rates with respect to the same month from the previous year were 0.8% for consumer goods (-2.5% for durable consumer goods and 1.2% for non-durable consumer goods), 3.7% for capital goods, -3.3% for intermediate goods and 1.3% for energy. After adjusting for calendar effects, these interannual rates were estimated at 1.8% for consumer goods (-1.1% for durable consumer goods and 2.3% for non-durable consumer goods), 4.6% for capital goods, -2.3% for intermediate goods and 1.6% for energy. The activities with the greatest increases during the month of January 2008 were Manufacture of radio, television and communications equipment and apparatus, with 22.4%, and Manufacture of tobacco products, with 10.5%. In contrast, those with the least growth were Manufacture of office machinery and computers, with -24.6%, and Mining and quarrying of energy producing materials, with -19.2%. 1
