Safe Wrk Prcedure Self-Lading Lgging Truck PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Adequate ftwear with gd tractin sles Hi-vis hardhat when ut f cab Hi-vis vest when ut f cab Hearing prtectin when driving PROCEDURES: Inspectins: Cnduct a dcumented pre-trip t inspect the lgging truck t ensure it is in safe perating cnditin. Check the lgging rigging regularly t ensure the cables, bunks, stakes, utriggers, lift straps, cuplings, lights and ther critical cmpnents are free f defects and in gd wrking rder. Check the cnditin f the brakes and adjust them regularly t ensure they are functining prperly. Ensure the required gvernment inspectins f the vehicle are cnducted and are current. Carry all registratins and permits necessary when travelling n public rads. Fill in yur lg bk at each stp. Cnduct a dcumented pst trip inspectin at the end f yur day and reprt any safety issues t the truck mechanic. Have him sign ff yur lg bk when the repairs are cmpleted. Operating: Wear yur seatbelt at all times when yur truck is in mtin. Make sure yu have all the required radi frequencies befre yu start n a new haul. If yu are ging t a site t pick up a lad where there are n wrkers present make sure that: Yu have filed a trip plan with smene wh can help yu if yu have difficulty r wh can cme t yu if yu fail t meet a check in interval. Set up a check in interval befre yu set ff. If yu deviate frm yur trip plan infrm yur cntact persn by radi r phne. Ask fr all the hazard infrmatin frm yur client befre yu start a new haul. Call yur kilmeters accrding t the prtcl psted at the start f each rad. If in dubt regarding the calling prtcl r if yu are n the crrect channel ASK. Call up r dwn. D nt use laded r empty as many resurce rads nw have laded trucks in bth directins. Drive with the headlights n at all times. Drive within the psted speed limits and/r within safe speeds determined by the cnditins f the rad. Always get int and leave the truck in a safe manner using the handhlds prvided t prevent slipping and tripping. Reprt any bserved unsafe haul rad cnditins t yur supervisr, the lgging cntractr r the licensee. D nt carry passengers unless they have prper authrizatin. And, remember-yu are a prfessinal driver and many f the ther rad users are nt. Tire Chains: Where winter cnditins prevail, always adequately chain up in a safe flat lcatin befre yu encunter areas where vehicle tractin is questinable. Yu must be prepared t stp suddenly if yu meet unexpected traffic r an unfreseen event ccurs. Set bth the tractr and trailer maxis befre leaving the cab. Let ther traffic knw where yu are stpping. Always fllw prper lifting techniques when handling tire chains. Bend yur legs and keep yur back straight. Lg Lading Ensure there is a safe area fr lading. Fllw the cmmunicatin system established at the lading site with the supervisr. Always wear required persnal prtective equipment when ut f the cab. Apply trailer and truck parking (MAXI) brakes if leaving the cab. Use cautin when cupling up yur trailer. Set the utriggers s the tractr will remain balanced when picking up lgs. Use the 3 pint munt when climbing t the crane seat. D nt walk n the bunks r trailer rigging. Use a pike ple t release stake extensins and straighten bunks. If the deck is beside the truck, lgs shall nt be picked up frm it until ther wrkers have finished their duties and have mved t the safe zne. If any wrkers mve ut f the safe zne lading must cease. Lad s that all butts r ends are even at the cab. Lgs shall be laded t ensure the stability f the vehicle and lad while in transit. Lgs shall be well psitined in their lay, withut crwding, t avid excessive strain n the stakeliner and stakes. T ensure stakes remain at a safe angle, lgs shall be laid tight t minimize slack in the stake cables. Bunk and stake lgs shall extend at least 12 inches (30cm) beynd the bunks r stakes. Lgs shall be laded clear f the bulkhead t avid being bunk-bund n crners. When lading small diameter lng lgs, tw tiers shuld be used as bunk and stake lgs befre lading shrt lgs int the lad. Nt mre than ne third f the weight f the lgs shall extend beynd the trailer r beynd the ends f the lgs supprting them. Care shuld be taken t prperly balance the lad. A side heavy lad r a lad with t much weight n the trailer culd cause a truck t tip ver r spin-ut under wet r icy cnditins. D nt climb n tp f the truck r the lad. Branches must be trimmed frm the lgs befre they are placed n the lad. Lgs with prtruding branches placed n tp f the lad must be remved and trimmed at grund level. All lgs must be restrained with a minimum f tw wrappers. Ensure firm grip n the cinch handle when clsing the cinch. Check yur weights (air gauges r bunk scales) befre thrwing the wrappers. Observe the area fr hazards like mving equipment, debris, r rad ice befre thrwing wrappers. Ensure gd fting and psitin while thrwing wrappers. D nt mve the lad until the lad has prper binders attached. If there is n safe place t thrw the wrappers the driver may mve t the clsest safe place (preferably in sight f ther wrkers) as lng as the way t that place is clear f any wrkers n the grund r in vehicles which culd be struck by lgs falling ff the truck. The driver must stp if such wrkers are encuntered and nt prceed until the wrkers are in the clear. Give ntice n prper radi channel that yu are leaving the landing and ensure all wrkers are in the clear befre pulling ut. Re-tighten yur wrappers as required n yur trip. When ut check yur lad fr shifted lgs especially befre yu enter public rads. Unlading Apprach the unlading area in a safe manner. Watch fr ther wrkers and machinery which might be present. Cnfirm unlading lcatin with laderman. Fllw the safe unlading prcedures established at the unlading site. Wear required P.P.E. when ut f the cab. Apply trailer and truck parking (MAXI) brakes befre leaving the cab. The lad must be restrained befre wrappers are remved frm the lad. Ensure gd cmmunicatins with the laderman. Fllw the psted unlading prcedures at the unlading site. Yu will be required t: remain in a safe lcatin in view f the laderman while being unladed, r remain in the cab f the truck, r stand ut in frnt f the truck. Fllw the psted prcedures if using a trailer hist. If in dubt cnfirm prcedures with laderman. Reprt any defects r issues with the trailer hist t the laderman immediately. Apply trailer parking (MAXI) brake. 5. If truck may rll r slip n ice/mud shut ff truck put truck in lwest gear r in reverse and place wheel chcks. 6. Shut ff engine. 7. Exit truck wearing high vis vest and hardhat. 8. Put ut safety triangles if n running surface f rad. 9. Remve the key if wrking in a situatin where anther wrker culd start the truck. 10. Turn ff master switch (if applicable). 11. Put lck and tag n master switch. 12. Bleed ff any hydraulic r air pressure if applicable. 13. Test t verify zer energy (electrical-hydraulic-gravity). TRUCK LOCKOUT PROCEDURE FOR SHOP SITUATIONS 1. Ntify ther affected emplyees. 2. Apply tractr parking (MAXI) brake. 3. Apply trailer parking (MAXI) brake. 4. Place wheel chcks. 5. Shut ff engine. 6. If dump truck bx raised secure frm inadvertent descent using brace. 7. Remve the key if anther wrker culd start the truck. 8. Turn ff master switch (if applicable). 9. Put lck and tag n master switch. 10. If mre than ne wrker n truck apply persnal lcks and tag t scissr lckut hasp n master switch. 11. Bleed ff any hydraulic r air pressure if applicable. 12.
