OM-00-A No accident-prevention program can be successful without the wholehearted cooperation of the person who is directly responsible for the operation of the equipment. A large number of accidents can be prevented only by the operator anticipating the result before the accident is caused and doing something about it. No power-driven equipment; whether it be transportation, processing, on the highway, in the harvest field, or in the industrial plant can be safer than the person who is at the controls. If accidents are to be prevented--and they can be prevented--it will be done by the operators who accept the full measure of their responsibility. It is true that the designer, the manufacturer, and the safety engineer can help; and they will help, but their combined efforts can be wiped out by a single careless act of the operator. It is said that, "the best kind of a safety device is a careful operator." We, at Unverferth Mfg. Co., Inc. ask that you be that kind of operator. OM071

SAFETY AVOID POSSIBLE INJURY Always use proper safety precautions. Most accidents are a result of failure to practice safety. Accidents cause lost time and suffering. Do not operate your RUNNING GEAR without thoroughly reading this manual. Follow all safety precautions as outlined in this manual and in the tractor operator's manual. All machinery should be operated only by those who are experienced, responsible, and have been delegated to do so. Do not exceed the gross load capacity of the running gear. BEFORE OPERATING Always make certain everyone and everything is clear of the machine before beginning operation. When hitching the wagon to the tractor, back the tractor past the clevis. Then move it slowly forward, so that in making the connection the tractor will be moving away from you. Avoid working under an implement; however, if it becomes absolutely unavoidable make sure the implement is safely blocked. Do not wear loose fitting clothes, as they may catch on moving parts. Do not grease or oil equipment while it is in operation. Be sure the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure. Be sure all hardware is tight and drawbar pin is properly installed with safety lock. DURING OPERATION Do not allow anyone to ride on the RUNNING GEAR. Make sure everyone is clear before operating the machine or tractor. Regulate speed to field conditions. Maintain complete control at all times. Use extreme care when operating close to ditches, fences or on hillsides. Do not leave tractor or implement unattended with engine running. Never attempt to operate any implement unless you are in the driver's seat. Do not dismount from a moving tractor. Do not disconnect the RUNNING GEAR from tractor until the wheels have been blocked to prevent unit from rolling. BEFORE TRANSPORTING Before towing unit(s), use a tow vehicle with the gross weight equal to or greater than the gross weight of all the equipment being pulled. Be sure the load is well balanced on the RUNNING GEAR to insure proper trailing. Secure safety chain to RUNNING GEAR tongue and to the tractor drawbar before transporting. When pulling several units, secure with safety chain between each unit. Make sure that all safety decals, SMV emblem, and reflectors are clean and in place on the machine. Latch the tractor brake pedals together before transporting. Lock the tractor drawbar on center and secure the hitch pin to prevent drawbar movement or loss of transport pin. Comply with state and local laws governing highway safety when moving machinery. Use accessory lighting or warning lights when transporting at night to adequately warn operators of other vehicles. Be sure tongue latch is locked into position before transporting to prevent inadvertent extension of hitch. DURING TRANSPORT Use good judgement when transporting implements on highway. Maintain complete control at all times. Regulate speed to road conditions. Under ideal road and traffic conditions the maximum speed of a vehicle with implement(s) attached should never exceed 0 m.p.h.

Be sure RUNNING GEAR is trailing straight to maintain full control. If unit is swaying or whipping side-to-side, stop operation and check for proper tire pressure; even load distribution; worn, loose or damaged steering or frame components and repair immediately. SAFETY Drive at speeds slow enough to insure your safety as well as others. Regulate speed during off highway travel. Do not travel faster than m.p.h. Slow down before making sharp turns or using the brakes. Drive slowly over rough ground, side hills, and around curves to avoid tipping. COMPLY WITH ALL SAFETY WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS IN THIS MANUAL, AND IN TRACTOR OPERATOR'S MANUAL. CAUTION! THIS RUNNING GEAR IS DESIGNED FOR AGRICULTURAL USE AND SHOULD NOT BE TOWED IN EXCESS OF 0 M.P.H. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS For running gear, bearing longevity, and ease of operation; periodic lubrication is essential. This also helps to flush out moisture and dirt. GREAS GUN LUBE POINTS Tongue Hitch Pin (End of Steering Hinge) - 1 Point Steering Hinge Pin (Front of Front Frame) - 1 Point Spindle Bearings (Both Ends of Front Axle) - Points MISCELLANEOUS LUBE POINTS Extension Part of Extendable Tongue Wheel Bearing - 8 Points LUBE CYCLE Grease Once/Year Grease Once/Year Grease Once/Year Oil or Grease When Needed Repack Grease Yearly Periodically during usage, check the following: 1. Tongue pivot pin. Tie rod connections at radius arm and at steering hinge. Coupling pole bolt and nuts. Tire pressure -- Follow manufacturer's specification (too high or too low pressure causes abnormal tread wear).. Beveled wheel bolts -- torque to ft. lbs. After each season: 1. Check welds on front and rear axles to coupling pole and to hounds. Tie rods -- adjust to minimum 1/8" toe-in (1/8" to /8" toe measured at tires). It is recommended for improved tire life to rotate tires diagonally NOTE: It is recommended that gravity boxes used with this gear be bolted through all four corners.

OPERATIONS LOAD CAPACITY The Model "G 1" is designed to operate with a total maximum gross load of,000 lbs. Gross load is the combined weight of the RUNNING GEAR, wagon box or bed, and the material being hauled. Net load is the weight of the material being hauled. Operator safety and RUNNING GEAR life will depend on the correct combination of load weight, tire load capacity and tire inflation. RUNNING GEAR rating is the maximum recommended gross load for the wagon gear when the tire load capacity is greater than the RUNNING GEAR capacity. When the tire load capacity is less than the RUNNING GEAR rating, the tire load capacity becomes the maximum recommended gross load of the unit. TRACTOR BALLAST Refer to your tractor operator's manual for correct amount of weights or ballast to be used with towed vehicles. Before towing unit(s), use a tow vehicle with the gross weight equal to or greater than the gross weight of all the equipment being pulled. TRACTOR DRAWBAR Before attaching the RUNNING GEAR to any tractor drawbar, be sure the drawbar is pinned and locked on center and the drawbar pin is a safety lock pin of proper size. TRANSPORT CHAIN Secure the transport chain to the RUNNING GEAR tongue and to the tractor drawbar before transporting. When pulling several units, secure with a transport chain between each unit. See Transport Chain, page 7. CHECKING WHEEL BOLTS Wheel bolts must be tightened after the wagon has been in use a short time and should be checked periodically thereafter to ensure they are tightened to ft. lbs. of torque. CHECKING CHASSIS Periodically check all bolts and connections, especially before operating on the highway. Looseness in the reach, steering mechanism, or coupling pole may cause the RUNNING GEAR to sway or whip. Repair or replace any worn or damaged components immediately. TIRE INFLATION Be sure the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure per tire manufactures specifications. LOAD DISTRIBUTION Be sure the load is well balanced on the RUNNING GEAR to insure proper trailing. Poor load distribution will cause improper trailing of the wagon. For best trailing results, the load must be evenly distributed between the front and rear axles and between the lefthand and right-hand sides. ADJUSTABLE QUICK HITCH TONGUE The adjustable quick hitch tongue permits the RUNNING GEAR to be hooked-up to the tractor safely. Position the tractor in-front of the RUNNING GEAR. Lift the tongue and extended body to attach the tractor drawbar. Back the tractor up to the re-latch tongue. ADJUSTABLE TONGUE LENGTH To adjust the tongue length, lift the latch handle and extend the inner body. Remove hair pin cotter and hitch pin from the latch and slide the latch to the desired location. Replace the hitch pin and hair pin cotter. Re-latch the inner and outer tongue bodies together. ADJUSTING WHEELBASE The wheel base can be adjusted in inch increments from 8 to 1 inches. To adjust the wheelbase, remove the /- x1 1/" capscrew (0-1) and elastic stop nut (8-01) holding the coupling pole to the axle frames. Slide the coupling pole / axle frames to the desired setting. Replace hardware and tighten.

TRANSPORT CHAIN (Optional) NOTE: Select transport chain based on gross weight being towed, adding total of all wagons. NOTE: When towing two wagons, wrap the chain of second wagon around the rear axle of the first wagon and secure. Allowing no more slack than necessary, attach transport chain by inserting chain link between underside lugs on tongue and attach using pin (80) and secure with two spiral pins (-17). Use only pin provided. Use intermediate support, see Fig. 1-. Do not use the intermediate support as the attaching point. Store transport chain by wrapping or laying on tongue, not allowing chain to rest on ground. Chain is more sensitive to rusting or pitting and should be inspected prior to each use. Do not weld or attempt to repair chain, chain must be replaced. Intermediate Support Towing Machine Towed Machine Attaching Point FIG. 1-1 OM077A FIG. 1- ADJUSTING WHEEL TOE-IN OM001 Front wheel toe-in has been preset at the factory. If adjustment becomes necessary, use the following procedure. 1. Place the tongue in a straight and horizontal position. This can be checked by measuring reference lines "A" and "B". These measurements are the same when the tongue is straight forward.. Measure the distance between the front wheels at the centerline of the tires, Front (F) and Rear (R). Measurement "R" should be 1/8" to /8" longer than measurement "F" for proper toe-in.. If not, loosen both clamps on each tie rod and turn the tie rod to increase or decrease its length. When desired adjustment is reached, tighten clamps on tie rods. NOTE: Tie rods must be adjusted equally so that dimension "C" is the same on both sides. 7 Revised 070-1

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 1. Check parts list on next page for all parts.. Determine length and width of undercarriage of unit that is to be installed on running gear.. Insert coupling pole (77) into the front axle frame (01A).. Align holes in frames with holes in coupling pole which best fits the undercarriage on your gravity box.. Secure the coupling pole to both frames using /- x 1 1/" long capscrews (0-1) and elastic stop nuts (8-01).. Position the stake pockets (standards) onto both the front and rear frames. Place the stake pockets against the outside of each runner on the undercarriage of your gravity box. 7. Secure the stake pockets using two /8-1 x " long capscrews (0-07), four lockwashers (0-07), and two centerline locknuts (8) per stake pocket. 8. Fasten the tongue assembly onto the turning plate on the front frame using the tongue pin (00) and a 1" slotted nut (). Secure the slotted nut by inserting a cotter pin (1-07).. Hoist unit and install the tire and wheel assemblies onto the hubs. Secure the unit using eight /1" hub bolts (7) per wheel. Torque the lug bolts to foot-pounds. NOTE: The quick hitch tongue is adjustable to a variety of lengths. Relocate latch to the required position and re-install bolt. Be sure to install elastic stop nut to prevent any inadvertent removal of bolt. NOTE: The stake pocket can be set at either of widths (8" or " Inside). Set at the width that matches your gravity box skid width. 8
