All for crop quality Large wheels On wet soils, appreciate the high flotation advantages of dual wheels on Alterna 500, or the super-single wheels on the Alterna 400. The risk of ruts in difficult conditions is minimized. 4 Flexibility and ground contour adaptation Despite the wide cutting width of the Alterna, these machines are well suited for following rolling terrain. Benefits include: - Preservation of grass stubble - Reduced power requirements - Less skid wear Single point suspension adjustment The ALTERNA suspension is ensured by suspension links with ball joints and centrally adjusted suspension springs. Swath width adjustable from 1.90 to 2.90 m / 6 2 to 9 6 Double swaths ideally suited for 3 m / 10 pick up attachments Double swaths, separated by up to 80 cm / 2 7 depending on the swath width setting, allow the tractor to operate without driving on the cut crop. - Complete and even drying is assured as significantly more crop is exposed to air and sunlight than if only a narrow single windrow is produced that is not run over by the tractor. - With an overall width adjustable from 1.90 to 2.90 m/ 6 2 to 9 6, they are perfectly adapted to 3 m pick-ups. The crop volume handled being distributed on two swaths, the harvesting machine is evenly fed.
Mower Conditioners ALTERNA 400/500/500 R For conditioning the widest range of crops Kuhn offers the exclusive FingerComb system 5 The most versatile conditioning system available with its free swinging fingers specially designed to condition the broadest range of crops. The cylindrical fingers, of high quality forged steel, lift, condition and carry the crop from the cutterbar through the comb. The conditioning is regular and homogeneous. Contrary to some sharp edged metal flails, the cylindrical fingers do not damage delicate crops. A B Conditioning adjustment The conditioning intensity changes with the degree of overlap between comb teeth and rotor fingers. Conditioning is increased or reduced by means of a lever. Comb in raised position: little conditioning effect. Reversible comb The reversible comb has two sides: A One (rounded) for conditioning delicate crops and B One for gramineous crops. In forged steel, they are hard-wearing Conditioning by means of swinging fingers and comb The base of the crop stems enters the machine first, allowing the rotor fingers to make initial contact with the crop s thickest part (longest to dry). The natural wax coating on both stem and leaves is broken down due to friction of plant against shield. As crop flows between the comb teeth, With a comb completely raised, there is the natural wax coating is opened little conditioning effect. along the length of the stem, allowing maximum moisture content to evaporate. Safety Should a foreign object enter the machine, the spring loaded comb swings back and is automatically repositioned.
For legumes and very tall crops, DIAMOND BLOCK roller conditioning Crop is fully handled! The shape of the roller conditioner ribs has been specifically designed for the ALTERNA 500 R Disc mower conditioner. 6 Conditioning adjustment Homogeneous conditioning: the roller pressure is provided by two torsion bars centrally adjusted. The conditioning intensity can be set at will and evenly over the whole cutting width. DIAMOND BLOCK rollers: efficient smooth conditioning The profile of the Diamond Block rolls improves conditioning by increasing the amount of roll intermesh. This results in more uniform and even crimping of the crop regardless of the orientation of the crop as it enters the rolls. This patented profile ensures conditioning evenness of all crops. Polyurethane conditioning rolls B A B The base of the crop stem passes through the rollers first. Rollers burst open the stems while preserving the leaves: crop is handled uniformly and delicately. C C Projected against the rear shield, crop flows out of the machine, forming a light fluffy swath of perfect structure. A For reliable long-term operation Both rolls are power driven and synchronized. They can open sufficiently for most foreign objects to pass
Mower Conditioners ALTERNA 400/500/500 R Mower conditioners designed to win on all fronts... 7 Select ALTERNA Mower Conditioners also for the assets that will show as field work progresses over the years. The cutterbars are designed for: robustness, facing the unexpected, quality mowing. For robustness... Cutterbar protection - rigid and sturdy cutterbar gearcase, manufactured from a high grade steel and reinforced by underside shields and a stiffener. - discs are protected by skids fitted with wear plates located under the cutterbar. - deflector shields located between the disc skids on the front of each cutterbar prevent a bent knife from damaging the cutterbar....inside as well! - Large diameter gearwheels in high tensile forged steel, - High capacity bearings (double row angular contact ball bearings) on all pinions. To face the unexpected... Quickly removable disc bearing stations - Disc pinions are mounted on reinforced double row angular contact ball bearings, mounted in a rigid one piece cast housing. - Removal of disc bearing stations, as well as intermediate idler gears, is quick and easy, minimising downtime. PROTECTADRIVE Safety Kuhn s exclusive PROTECTADRIVE cutterbar system protects the gear train if a major obstacle is struck in the field.
For quality mowing... 8 Oval discs featuring well-known advantages - Improved flow of cut crop towards the conditioning rotor: no clogging, - Clean mowing: knives fitted on the disc s large axis for a great overlap area, - After hitting an obstacle, a bent knife will not collide with an adjacent disc, - No jamming of foreign bodies between two discs. Cutting height 3 cutting heights are available: high / medium / low. It is adjusted by means of the 3 skid shoes, one located where the two cutterbars are connected and the 2 others on the cutterbar ends. ALTERNA: recognizable by its innovative mowing conditioning unit 2 individually driven cutterbars Its wing shape facilitates cutterbar penetration even in the most dense crops. Crop flows through the conditioner and is ejected in the centre. Results: - The tractor never runs over the crop, - Easy pick-up by following harvesting machines. Penetrating wing shape of the 2 cutterbars
Mower Conditioners ALTERNA 400/500/500 R Excellent ease of operation even with a machine of this size! 9 A transport width reduced to 2.50 m/8 2 for such a large machine! 1 2 New: Braking system A perfect synchronisation Depending on the road regulations, there are two versions available: 1 Hydraulic braking system 2 Pneumatic braking system. Placing the machine in transport/work position (and vice versa) is carried out from the tractor cab. 1. Responding to the hydraulic controls, the machine pivots to place itself in working position. 2. The transport wheels are folded up. 3. At the same time, the working wheels are lowered. 4. The ALTERNA then completes its rotation. GYRODINE swivel hitch The GYRODINE swivel hitch is lubricated by means of an integrated pump: one maintenance point, no leaks. GYRODINE swivel hitch for sharp turns The driver no longer has to worry about the PTO when making sharp turns. The distance between the tractor PTO and machine stays the same, U-joint angles remain constant no matter how sharp the tractor turns. Protection of drive components The drive components are protected from overload and shock by means of a friction slip and an over running clutch. Minimum maintenance and maximum reliability The Gyrodine gearbox drives the mower-conditioner unit by means of a large diameter shaft.
Comfort and time savings 10 Centralised controls - All the functions are controlled by an electro/hydraulic bloc fitted on the machine. - Hydraulic and electrical power is supplied through two double acting hydraulic outlets and one electrical socket on the tractor. Electrical remote control An electric selector lever combined with the double acting valve controls the transport wheel raising/lowering. Parking stand When uncoupled, the machine rests on a built-in parking stand, making it easy and safe for hitching and unhitching. Save time and improve crop quality Reduce time between mowing and closing your forage silo For grass remaining in the field, there is a loss in sugar, nitrogen content as well as digestibility. The faster silage making is completed, the faster the total crop nutritional value is preserved. Harvest at the optimum stage In silage making even more than in haylage, harvesting at the right stage means harvesting the full forage plant value: sugar, protein, minerals and dry matter. Immediate action is required when plant stage and weather conditions are gathered. For the best work organization and mowing at the optimum crop stage: KUHN-ALTERNA assets Working width - Manoeuvrability Reduced maintenance Face the unexpected. Mowing at the right time Allows the mowing operation to be postponed in the afternoon instead of the morning at which time soil and grass are still wet.
