It was a great chance to get out and enjoy North Georgia on a nice February day. One of the items we discussed was a request by Denny Deal of the Catus GTOs (in Arizona) to participate in the purchase of an All Terrain Chair by The Independence Fund (www.independencefund.org). Their goal is to provide severely injured Veterans with greater mobility and independence. Denny s goal is a donation of $400 from each GTO Club for purchase an All Terrain Chair or assist in the purchase. A decision was made at the meeting to add this as a project during the BOP. It was felt we could collect the needed donations during the BOP. Mike will have our tent setup to solicit new members and we ll have an opportunity to collect funds for The Independence Fund as well. Please visit their website and consider donating during the BOP. Their flyer is also included in this month s newsletter. Which brings up another Big item. We should all getting our cars ready for the BOPC. SEGTOA will be providing an award for the Best Work-in-Progress, as well. (yes, I know they re all works-in progress) The Point is, Pontiacs don t have to be Finished to be FUN and INTERESTING. As long as they re safe to drive, bring your Pontiac!! Be sure to check inside this month s Tiger Tales for the latest info on the BOPC, Memories In Monroe, and other upcoming club events such as the First Atlanta Motorama in April. Speaking of the Atlanta Motorama, Mike Walling is working hard at getting us registered as a club with a reserved area for parking. All those interested in attending need to send Mike a check and registration form to pre-register by March 27th. This is sure to be an exciting event including a chance to drive on the track! Note that all checks are to be made out to Atlanta Motor Speedway. More details to follow. John Link Ed Bellair ebellair@segtoa.org WELCOME NEW MEMBERS! Last Month s Meeting Paul Sorrells Saturday Feb 8 Cruise to Woodbridge Inn / Jasper, GA Saturday Feb 8th found us meeting at 9 am in the parking lot of Andretti's Karting in Roswell. Richard Picone stopped by to meet us and fill out his club membership form. Unfortunately, a previous engagement prevented him from joining us on the run. After a wait to see who would show, the ever efficient Mike Walling handed out a printed turnby-turn direction sheet in the event anyone got separated. The wagon train headed north on Hwy 140 with Bart Beasley's newly acquired red 1966 GTO in the lead with Walling riding as head navigator and Ed & Elise Bellair in their 1968 GTO close behind. In no time we had turned off on to small two lane roads that wind here and there through Cherokee County. My wife Hope and I were 3rd in line in my Mustang (my '65 GTO isn't roadable quite yet), John Link and his Riviera was 4th and Paul & Jane McGinnett I believe brought up the rear in their 2005 GTO. The views were quite picturesque, even when we saw the million dollar mansions next to the house trailers. I believe we cut through a part of Hall county before we got into Dawson County. I thought we were doing really good until Bart turned into a rural Church's gravel parking lot followed by this circus caravan we had. Apparently Mike W. had been researching the proper way to insert an 8-track tape into a vintage tape deck (remember, he wasn't born then) when he let Bart blow past our turn a half mile back. But it's all good on a cruise, even when the two deer ran across the road in front of the Red GTO. Now I saw about 15 Wild Turkeys scratching up close to the road in somebody's front yard and we saw the occasional horses and goats. But the real highlight was when we were passing what I guess you might call a house and this Rhode Island Red Rooster was standing dead center in the middle of his road. I don't know if it was because Bart's GTO was Red or that maybe Bart didn't show him the proper respect, but we all had to drive around that rooster. When we got to the Woodbridge Inn, the manager Hans Rueffert had set up a long table for our use in one of the front rooms with big windows. Denny & Julie Sanford drove directly there to meet us and Kim Fowler also joined us there. We had plenty of parking right out front and lined the cars up. The food and fellowship were good. We should remember the Woodbridge Inn for a future rally destination. 6

For a more detailed look at the chairs they custom make, go to www.independencefund.org and in the middle of the page at the top, click on the Indy Services link and take a look at some of the video, to see what we re working to achieve. 7

SEGTOA Charitable Contributions at Work Mike Walling As discussed at the Holiday Party, the Chapter decided to continue making contributions the assemble group selected. The charities selected for 2014 were St. Jude Children s Hospital, Make-A-Wish Georgia, TACA Talking About Curing Autism, and the Autism Society. We received the letter below from Make-A-Wish Georgia. It s nice to know that SEGTOA s contribution didn t go unnoticed! 8

Tech tips 66 GTO A/C Switch By John Link We are working on a 66 GTO and in checking the A/C found that the A/C compressor would not engage. We had power to the Heat/ AC control panel in the dash but no power to the A/C compressor. The control panel is supposed to provide power to the compressor when the slide control ( DE-ICE HEAT OFF VENT OUT INSIDE) slides to - OUT and INSIDE. After checking that the compressor clutch would engage with the switch bypassed, we confirmed the switch was not working and the compressor clutch was working. The switch can be checked and removed without removing the dash or the Heat/AC panel. To check/remove the switch, you remove the glove box, AC duct, and the radio. The switch is on the right side of the Control (brown & black wire). Photo (1) shows the switch just above the radio. The switch is engaged by a cam mechanism operated by the lever on the control panel -Top lever Photo (2). The switch is attached by two screws at the bottom of the control (above the radio behind the dash). One of the these screw holes is elongated for adjustment. With 40 years of use, the switch was worn and even full adjustment wasn t enough to engage the switch. The switch is not available in the Ames catalog so replacement wasn t an option. The repair was to elongate the adjustment hole further so the switch would engage. With the hole elongated, the switch could be reinstalled and adjusted to provide power to the compressor. Problem Solved. Photo (1) Photo (2) 9

Map of Show Field and Vendor/Sponsor Spaces Here is the color-coded map of the Marriott s BOPC parking area. If you want to show your car or sell your stuff, go to the Registration page to reserve a spot in the Show Field and/or The Marketplace. 15

Additional Information: Mike Walling, John Link, Ed Belair, and Kim Fowler attended the latest BOPC coordination meeting held by Dixie Olds. The following was discussed: They have a survivor class, so any year, ANY shape Pontiac SHOULD enter. No excuses. Complete the attached Registration Form. Then mail it with their check to: Tom Di Nucci, 202 Lakewood Drive, Waleska GA 30183 Parking Assistance. Cadillac has asked for FOUR or more volunteers from each club to be onsite early, and help park cars as they enter Saturday. The job for parking cars should only last the first two hours, and then you are free to go. Mike Walling has volunteered so now we need just 3 more. (Tis is a huge image/impression SEGTOA can make on the Show. Anyone else interested in assiting with show parking can email Mike Walling). Each car will be getting 1.5 spaces at the show for parking. This way the doors can be opened without damage to your neighbor. All clubs will have a place to display their club tent and hand out literature related to their club. Judging will be peer judging. Final format is still being worked out. All forms can also be obtained from the BOPC website www.bopcshow.com 16
