Blade Testing In production

Blade Testing Your partner in blade testing in production Wind turbine blades are highly sophisticated products, composed of a variety of materials and composites. During operational life the blades are subjected to demanding forces and have to withstand different types of loads all acting upon the blades. Wind turbine blades are therefore highly stressed parts, and to minimise the risks from design flaws and manufacturing faults, that affect quality and performance, manufacturers rely on professional full scale blade testing. We offer blade manufacturers a selection of scanner solutions that are aimed at different testing and documentation needs and purposes. The solutions that are specifically developed and designed for blade testing in production are; AMS-40, AMS-57, AMS-46 and MWS-6. Proven technology With yearly thousands of blade and tower welding examinations, we have a proven knowledge and expertise in blade testing in production. The scanner solutions are developed in close cooperation with the world s leading wind turbine manufacturers. We are also co-owner of and take active part in the Danish Blade Test Centre, a testing facility specialised in prototype approval testing of blades. Other partners are Risø National Laboratory of Denmark and Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

www.p-scan.com Preparing AMS-40 - Automated testing of blades in production AMS-40 & AMS-57 I BLADE TESTING IN PRODUCTION AUTOMATED TRACK SCANNER AMS-40 and AMS-57 are supreme and fast scanner solutions for accurate automated testing of assembled blades, blade spar and spar caps containing UD fiber girder laminates for MW size wind turbine blades. While AMS-40 is used for automated testing of horizontal positioned surfaces, AMS-57 is used for automated testing of vertical positioned surfaces. System interface The AMS-40 and AMS-57 are delivered with an interface to any original P-scan system. P-scan is designed with special attention to fast set up time, small equipment size and ease of use and is thereby offering increasing productivity in use. Furthermore, the system has great flexibility to adapt to different testing situations and covers all major ultrasound testing techniques. Technical specifications Velocities X-direction Max 100 mm/s Y-direction Max 250 mm/s Stroke Y-direction 900 mm with 4 ultrasonic contact probes Standard track length 4.600 mm in X direction, adaptable up to 7.000 mm length Object dimensions Minimum curve R 500 mm* Minimum width 100 mm * Depending on width and length

Preparing AMS-57 for blade testing FEATURES Scanner components mounted on a motorised fork lift truck X Y scans along a 4 7 meter long rail with a track scanner unit Lifting and holding system for safe precise attachment of track scanner High performance multiple ultrasonic contact probe alignments Onboard tray for calibration plates Container and pumps for handling of coupling water Operator work station 100% battery operated scanner Autonomous scanner unit Total scanning time less than 120 minutes on a 50 meter blade, both sides covered Additional set-up dedicated to detection of wrinkles

AMS-46 I BLADE TESTING IN PRODUCTION ULTRASOUND CRAWLING SCANNER AMS-46 is an automated crawling scanner, dedicated to examinations of wind turbine blades and blade components. It is primarily used for examinations of fiber reinforced composite structures on assembled blades and is applicable for automated examinations of horizontally positioned blades. System interface AMS-46 is delivered with an interface to any original P-scan system. P-scan is designed with special attention to fast set up time, small equipment size and ease of use and is thereby offering increasing productivity in use. Furthermore, the system has great flexibility to adapt to different testing situations and covers all major ultrasound testing techniques. Technical specifications Velocities X-direction Y-direction Max 100 mm/s Max 250 mm/s Stroke Y-direction Object dimensions Minimum curve Minimum width 2 x 500 mm Physical specifications Weight Options R 1000 mm 400 mm Weight: 103 kg (standard configuration) Onboard digital camera system for visual surveillance of scan path. Remote steering control. Spray system for prewetting of blade surface prior to scanning operation. Scanner interface is available for different types of motor drive controllers.

FEATURES Remote scanner control through video camera and steering control Speed, resolution and efficiency in mapping of main girder laminates and bond lines Self propelled crawling scanner unit High performance multiple ultrasonic contact probe alignments Additional set-up dedicated to detection of wrinkles AMS-46 The automated crawling scanner AMS- 46 is an effective scanner solution for examinations of wind turbine blades and blade components. AMS-46 is primarily used for examinations of fiber reinforced composite structures on assembled blades and is applicable for automated examinations of horizontally positioned blades.

MWS-6 I BLADE TESTING IN PRODUCTION ULTRASOUND MANUAL SCANNER MWS-6 is a manually operated scanner, mainly used for semi automated inspection of composite materials. It is an ideal portable solution for random spot check in production or of erected blades, installed on-site. This device may be easily operated from an erected platform, along installed rotor blades. Physical specifications Width x length x height 84 x 217 x 161 mm FEATURES Scanner body with one probe holder and encoder wheel The scanner has two operator-programmable function buttons Accessories for scanning parallel with edge contour MWS-6 is an ideal portable scanner solution for random spot check, installed in production www.p-scan.com System interface MWS-6 is delivered with an interface to any original P-scan system. P-scan is designed with special attention to fast set up time, small equipment size and ease of use and is thereby offering increasing productivity in use.
