This may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it. Important information These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by authorised BMW service companies. In any event, the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with the appropriate specialist knowledge. All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, wiring diagrams, servicing manuals and work instructions, in a rational order, using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations. If you experience installation or function problems, restrict troubleshooting to approx. 0.5 hours for mechanical work and.0 hour for electrical work. To avoid unnecessary extra work and/or costs, send an inquiry straight away to the technical parts support team via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). Quote the following information: - Chassis number, - retrofit kit part number, - a detailed description of the problem, - any work already carried out. Installation information Ensure that the cables and/or lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. Costs arising from this will not be reimbursed by BMW AG. Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties. All pictures show LHD cars; proceed accordingly on RHD cars. Ordering instructions Can generally be installed in all vehicles. The parts listed below can be adopted from the existing steering wheel or must be ordered and exchanged for the vehicle-specific SAs. See the relevant table entitled Sport steering wheel and the associated add-on parts for more information. When exchanging the airbag unit, it does not require decoding. When installing with SA 48 (steering wheel heating), the heating function no longer works and no decoding is required. The switch for steering wheel heating remains without function. Cars with basic steering wheel Adopted parts: Connecting cable, vibration generator and electronics for lane departure warning (SA 5AD). Not adopted parts: Airbag unit and multi-function keys. Cars with Sport steering wheel (SA 55) Adoption of all parts possible. Cars with M Sport steering wheel (SA 70) Adoption of all parts possible. . Installing the M Performance steering wheel Remove the multi-function keys () from the standard steering wheel and unclip the standard finisher (). If present, remove the shift paddles (). If present, remove the vibration generator (4) and control module (5). 4 5 F0 0 V 5 The cabling of the standard steering wheel must be adopted in the identical configuration for M Performance steering wheel A. Unfasten the horn plate () with the four screws () from the standard steering wheel. Unclip the plug () from behind out of the hole (4) using a suitable tool. Remove the female connector (5) from the horn plate (). 4 F0 0 V D A C C F0 04 V Clip the plug () into the hole () of M Performance steering wheel A and route the cabling identically as on the standard steering wheel. When first installed, there are no threads in M Performance steering wheel A; these are cut the first time that self-tapping screws C are screwed in. Consequently, more force needs to be applied when inserting them for the first time. On subsequent installations, self-tapping screw C! must be applied carefully and screwed into the existing thread. If the screws fail to achieve the required tightening torque of 6 Nm ± 0.5 Nm each time they are inserted, the M Performance steering wheel must not be installed. Insert horn plate D and connect female connector () to horn plate D. Then screw horn plate D using the enclosed self-tapping screws C to M Performance steering wheel A with a tightening torque of 6 Nm ± 0.5 Nm. BMW AG, Munich 0 9 6 45 7/0 (V/Z) 6
. Installing the M Performance steering wheel Only for cars with SA 5AD (lane departure warning): Use the screws from the vibration generator () from the standard installation. Install the vibration generator () and control module () into M Performance steering wheel A. Tighten the screws of vibration generator () to 4 Nm ± 0.5 Nm. F0 07 V 5 A 5 4 B F0 06 V For all cars: If necessary, reinstall the shift paddles (). Press the cable () into the cable gap () on M Performance steering wheel A and insert the multifunction keys (4) into M Performance steering wheel A. Allow M Performance finisher B to engage in M Performance steering wheel A.
