Cover Page The curved wood trestle on Jim O Connell s CCRR Northern Division layout creaks under the weight of a freight train that is crossing it. The train is headed by an aging 4-6-0 of the Central California Railroad. Photo: Jim O Connell July The Re 4/4 II by SZL in Swiss Express colours is carrying a short mail train on Jens Wimmel s Julierbahn layout. Behind the electric locomotive there are three Swiss mail box cars type PTT Z2 which were produced by FR for ZettZeit. Photo: Jens Wimmel January The era I layout of Karl Sinn impresses with its realistic looking vegetation. No small detail has been forgotten. And so also Märklin s Prussian passenger train, headed by a T 18, looks very well. Photo: Jens Wimmel August The class V 100 20 is still a young Z scale construction but especially in red colours just one of the most favourite classics in the Märklin line. The photo of this well running model was taken on a scenery by Phillip Meyer heading a Leig unit (Trainini construction). February The International Toy Fair has come and with it the 40 th anniversary of Z scale. The class 103 loco and the TEE Rhinegold remind us this event. This item running on Karl- Friedrich Ahnert s layout has been the first electric prototype in 1974 of the Z scale line. September In the sunset light of a warm late summer day we meet the Austrian crocodile #1189.002 by SMZ in Jaffa colours. It has been the only one of this type which is very similar to the Swiss crocodile that got this livery in 1971. Photo: Claudius Veit March Let s have a look to Canada: The heavy Diesel locomotive SD 40-2 #747 of BC Rail, based on a MTL item and reconstructed by Gerd Kurz, is switching in Jasper/Alberta. Easily to see is that the loco is doing a hard job every day. Photo: Jens Wimmel October Impressive image of the flat land around the Ems region railway in a seventies autumn: Inspired by a historic photo by Udo Paulitz the heavy steam loco class 043 of the depot Rheine is heading a tank car train from Salzbergen running to the South through nightlight. April A rare model of Z scale history is the class 132 by Railex. The ex Bavarian passenger train loco is serving a special trip with thunder box cars on Karl-Friedrich Ahnert s layout. On the photo it is crossing a small river bridge in front of a medieval city wall. November The until now biggest Z scale steamer met us at the National Train Show 2011. David Lancaster s 4-6-6-4 Gray Goose Challenger of the Union Pacific, an AZL item, is heading a passenger train on a modul by Hien Nguyen. Photo: Robert J. Kluz May The historic RhB train is running on an extremly realistic looking curved viaduct that connects two parts of a mall valley in Switzerland. The creator of this scenery, Florian Dignath, is one of the pioneers of Zm line. June Nice to see is the Southern Germany layout with the Alps in the background by Karl-Heinz Wobschall. In its central station we meet two representatives of younger Z scale history: The electric class 150 by Märklin was still made in China and got some private specifications, the Köf 2 switcher by Z-Modellbau is a solid construction handmade in Germany. December Even the dark season has its special charms. In deep snowed Blumendorf at christmas time we see a rail bus class 798/998 stopping at the station. The lights of the lanterns, in the house, in the train and of the christmas tree give an interesting sparkling to the ice hanging down the roof boarder.
