Please discard PIP4307G. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern: A dealer may encounter a customer concern of reduced engine power, SES light, or P0106. The P0106 may be the result of condensation that has frozen inside of the MAP sensor. The P0106 will only occur in areas with ambient temperatures at or below freezing for a long period of time. Recommendation/Instructions: If there is a DTC P0106 set inspect the MAP sensor inlet. If there is condensation, water, or an oily substance in the MAP sensor inlet, a modification to the MAP sensor inlet will be necessary. This repair will extend the MAP sensor inlet farther into the air intake tube. This photo is of a complete retrofitted MAP sensor, and the original MAP sensor.

Page 2 of 5 MAP Sensor Retrofit Instructions Remove the MAP sensor, clean the MAP sensor with soap and water (certain cleaners may damage the sensor), and make sure it is completely dry. A MAP sensor extension will need to be fabricated (see photo below). A 1.5 inch (38 m/m) length of 3/8 inch (9.5 m/m) steel brake line (or fuel line) tubing will be used for the MAP sensor extension. One end of the brake line will need to be flared, and the other end will be cut at a 30 to 45 degree angle. The flare on the pipe will ensure the pipe cannot fall into air intake. The angled cut on the inlet side of the pipe will help keep the sensor from freezing and skewing MAP sensor readings. Cut and flare the pipe using Kent Moore brake line repair kit J45405 or equivalent.

Page 3 of 5 Remove the MAP sensor to intake pipe rubber seal. This seal will be modified to fit with new MAP sensor extension. Using a suitable tool, cut the seal leaving two or three ribs, and the beveled end of seal (inboard side of seal) intact. The inboard piece of this seal will be reused. This step will show how to affix the pipe to the sensor. It's IMPERATIVE the pipe is oriented correctly before it is glued. The open side of the angle needs to face away from the air flow (the open side of the angle towards rear of vehicle, see first photo with completed sensor) With the map sensor laying flat, put a coating of two part epoxy (Loctite part number LT- 81501 or equivalent) around the map sensor port (barb fitting). Laying the sensor flat will ensure no epoxy enters the MAP sensor port. Clean off any excess epoxy.

Page 4 of 5 Reinstall inboard portion of MAP sensor seal (modified in step 2) after the epoxy has dried.

Page 5 of 5 Install the new retrofitted MAP sensor on the vehicle. Test drive the vehicle to check for sensor leaks and proper MAP sensor operation. Return the vehicle to the customer for evaluation. Note: If the vehicle has experienced snow ingestion into the air cleaner please see the newest version of bulletin 08-06-04-054 (for 2007-2009 vehicles) or PI number PIP4545 (for 2006-2007 vehicles). GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and knowhow to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
