Eco-friendly, efficient and safe eaht winch series electric anchor handling/towing solutions eaht series winches
Innovations that improve performance and protect the environment Fast, clean and precise stepless control For over 75 years the MacGregor name has been synonymous with innovative engineering solutions and Cargotec s latest range of MacGregor cargo handling systems that use environmentally-friendly electric drives is no exception. MacGregor eaht series - electric anchor handling/towing winches are based on reliable variable frequency drive technology offering improved overall efficiencies and lower power consumption, translating to lower running costs and ultimately a lower environmental impact. Several years ago the company identified a need in the market for these new products. The development policy focused on three main aims: compared with hydraulic systems they had to be environmentally-friendly; they had to provide equal or better performance; and the cost had to be the same. Many ideas were identified and considered through combining this policy and technical feasibility. New electrically-driven equipment includes cranes, rolling hatch covers, a hatch cover stacking device, RoRo cargo access equipment and offshore load handling solutions. Advantages of electric compared with hydraulic drives For the shipowner No oil pollution or damage to goods by hydraulic oil No hydraulic oil is required Maintenance-friendliness Operational position is not limited Energy saving as no continuous running is required All equipment can be operated easily Reliable in all weathers Easy to monitor For the shipbuilder Cable wiring is easier than piping No flushing work required No control stand installation is required Flexible building schedule can be expected No need for high pressure hydraulics skills No pump unit needed The electric anchor handling/towing winch (eaht) series is designed to meet the most stringent offshore standards, including those set by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMD). It inherits proven characteristics of the previous generation of MacGregor anchor handling/towing winches, which ensures safe operations and ease of maintenance. Before delivery, each winch is fully tested electrically and mechanically at our facilities, and can be delivered as a complete unit or multiple assembly units for easy installation on board. Environmentally-friendly Massively reduced hydraulic oil use Low noise levels Energy savings from low starting current and standby mode Consumed power is monitored Control of power consumption/regenerated power Lower energy consumption (between 20 to 25% energy saving) Reduced power generation requirements 3

They offer a wide range of smooth speed controls including high-speed operations at light line speeds. Also, in stalling conditions, the excellent overload characteristics allow the operator to control the chain or rope tension at zero speed. Length, tension-monitoring and auto-tension are also available as additional options. Basic system design Safety Diagnostic check available No surge during high speed payout at emergence release Peak torque protection Greater redundancy & reliability Electric secondary or storage winches (escw) offer a huge storage capacity for large diameter synthetic ropes that have considerably lower specific weight characteristics than steel wire. The winch drives have adapted advanced variable frequency drive technology, which offers smooth control of the winch during heavy-lift operations in difficult conditions. A freshwater-cooled and air- or hydraulically-driven multi-disc brake is fitted to offer a smooth change over from static to dynamic braking. Service and maintenance Extended lifetime of components Fewer consumables Maintenance-friendliness Improved fault-finding Lower maintenance costs Easy access to data for trouble shooting Human Machine Interface (HMI) control and information system All control features, including the length, speed and tensionmonitoring system, are incorporated in one or two touch screens and remote control panels. Alternatively, these controls can be integrated into an ergonomically-designed operator chair with two joysticks located in the armrests. Operating manuals and trouble-shooting and maintenance information is also available on the touch screens. Electric tugger winches (euw) are driven by a single- or twospeed electric motor or variable frequency drive. The line pulls range from 5 tonnes to 30 tonnes. A local control panel is situated adjacent to the winch. A wired-controller or remote control from the wheelhouse is also available as an option. Electric capstans (evc) are driven by a single- or two-speed electric motor or variable frequency drive. The line pulls range from 5 tonnes to 30 tonnes. A non-declutchable storage drum is available as an option to assist aft deck wire or chain handling. A local control panel is situated adjacent to the capstan. A wiredcontroller or remote control from the wheelhouse is also available as an option. 5
Efficient, clean and safe MacGregor deck handling gear Retain flexibility with integration where and how you want it Electric chain-handling winches (echw) have variable frequency drives and are portable units that can be easily mounted, with a chain locker, on deck. The advanced drive technology allows for the safe use of various chain sizes by limiting the load on the chain to a preset value. Various chain guide rollers and adjustable guide rollers for various chain sizes are also available. Cargotec has years of experience producing advanced systems that benefit from integration on different levels. Such integration can have great benefits but does not need to come at the cost of flexibility. Any of our systems can be designed for full integration into vessel newbuild projects or modularised for easy placement in existing vessels. Mechanical design can be adjusted to suit specific interface prerequisites. Power requirements can be met by dedicated HPUs or from integration with a vessel ring-line system. Power management systems can be integrated into the vessel s power generation system for improved safety and efficiency. Control systems themselves may be integrated into the ship s own control and/or monitoring stations as well as in dedicated and remote operating panels. Controls for related equipment can also be integrated into a common interface. And integration does not stop there. Shark jaws/towing pins (STA) are designed to meet the most stringent offshore standards, including those set by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMD). The designs have Det Norske Veritas (DNV) type approval. Shark jaws are used to secure chains or wires during anchor handling operations. A wide range of insert plates, made from abrasion-resistant and highly durable materials, are provided and are easily interchangeable for handling various chain sizes. A wire lifter is provided between the jaws to secure the wire socket in the top position. The angular-type towing pins have a simple design and strong construction, easily trapping the chain or wire when the pins meet at the top. Rollers are provided along the pin body to reduce friction when handling the chain or wire. You, the owner, can specify exactly how much and what type of integration best suits your needs. You benefit from greater efficiency and still retain the flexibility you need. Life-cycle efficiency improves your business Chain wheel manipulators (CWM) are remotely-controlled systems, specifically designed to perform continuous successive cycles of chain wheel installation/replacement, even in adverse weather conditions, onto an anchor handling/towing winch while the vessel is at sea. CWMs substantially reduce the necessity for heavy manual labour, ensuring the cost efficiency of operations and the safety of personnel and equipment. The system is designed in compliance with DNV s Rules for Certification of Lifting Appliances, 2008. Our goal is to increase value by providing top-quality service and sustainability throughout the complete life-cycle of our products. Cargotec offers you a full service portfolio, including its MacGregor Onboard Care (MOC) concept, designed to meet your strategic and tactical needs. An MOC service contract offers the opportunity to compose a unique mix of services to meet your specific requirements. Hydraulic cargo rail knuckle jib cranes (CRV) are provided with integrated electro-hydraulic power units and installed on a trolley assembly which allows the cranes to move longitudinally on the cargo rail and operate in any position when the trolley is hydraulically-locked to the cargo rail. Availability support, onboard maintenance, spare parts management and customer training are the four elements of an MOC service contract. This offers you sustainable ship operations and revenue earning capabilities by ensuring the operative availability of your equipment through planned maintenance solutions and our global service network. Deck handling manipulator systems (DHMS) are designed to improve safety and operability on board AHTS vessels. DHMS combines chain and wire gripper functions into a single, flexible and safe system that can be installed on deck or on cargo rail cranes. It is remotely operated to ensure safer conditions for the crew on the aft deck. As the gripping system is fully controlled from the crane s portable panel, it substantially decreases the necessity for heavy manual tasks during anchor handling operations on offshore vessels. With an MOC service contract, you can concentrate on your core business. 5 7
