February 2019 Points of Interest: Chapter P was granted Chapter status in 2006. TX Participants are dedicated to the GWRRA Motto; Friends for Fun, Safety, and Knowledge." Chapter P gathers on 2nd Thursday of each month at Spring Creek BBQ The new year started of great with the after Christmas party. We all look forward to this day as we get to sample all the wonderful dishes the ladies cook up. This year was no exception. Thank you all. It was good to see Joe and Jean after the medical scare they had. Joe is on the mend and should be fine in time. This years staff has some new faces and all for the better. Great rides are in the planning stages with some surprises mixed in. Lets hope the weather cooperates this year. On February 16th we will have a CPR-first aid class. Location will be announced as soon as we have a place secured. See Ed Bates for signing up or let me know. February 17th will be our annual bowling challenge.. This is our only fund raiser for the year. This is always a fun day so try to attend this one. Even if you don't bowl we need cheerleaders. We have added a sunshine lady with Tammy Scott heading up the job. Let her or me know when someone needs cheering up. Remember the bike to watch is the bike behind the car in front of you. Paul CD. Ed Bates, MEC As I sit back in my chair and wish the weather would warm up so I can ride more comfortably, I ask myself a question that my friend posed to me some time back. He asked me why did I join GWRRA and Chapter P? This could be a long answer but I'm going for the condensed version. The best answer is that I bought my bike and rode around with my wife and wondered if there were others there that had like interests as so we could socialize and discuss the best roads, places to eat and things to do. I found a group that does just that, It's Chapter P. From the first time I met them at the Dairy Queen in Benbrook I felt welcomed to the Chapter. I feel it's how we present ourselves to the potential members and the general public that makes the difference. So whenever you see someone out riding, say hi to them and put our best face forward. I want to thank Chris from Wise Honda for making it to our meeting and talking to us about his shop and look forward to a long relationship, hopefully we can have Honda around the square one night! Motorcycle Rider Course Options Hello Texas Riders! One of the best activities you can do for yourself in 2019 is to take a riding course to hone and reinforce your skills on the street. GWRRA offers 10 different courses to help you achieve this. I know some of you might be thinking, Yeah, but I can t ever find a class being offered close to me! I know a lot of you take the courses to keep your Levels current (and I strongly support that) but did you know there are a lot more classes out there that can also be counted for the Levels program? Following is the list of Approved Rider Courses for use in the GWRRA Levels Program. The first group of courses have a classroom and range component and should be taken every 3 years to maintain Levels. Riding Courses accepted for GWRRA Levels The following courses may be taken every 3 years consecutively for Levels 2 UP Co Rider participating in a Rider Course (GWRRA) 3WBRC Trike Rider Course (MSF) AORC Add-On Riding Course (GWRRA) ARC Advanced Rider Course (GWRRA) BRC Beginner Rider Course (MSF) CMSP California Motorcyclist Safety Program CSC Canadian Safety Council ESCS Evergreen Safety Council Sidecar ESCT Evergreen Safety Council Trike MORE Ohio State Program MSFARC Advanced Rider Course (MSF) SRC Sidecar Rider Course (GWRRA) STAR Idaho State Program TC Two Wheel Trailering Course (GWRRA) TC ARC Total Control Advanced Rider Clinic (Lee Parks) TC INT Total Control Intermediate Rider Clinic TRC Trike Rider Course (GWRRA) TTRC Trike w/ Trailer Rider Course (GWRRA) VRC Vanguard Rider Course (GWRRA) The courses listed below may be used in the Levels program, but the next rider course must be a course listed from above. These courses are essentially Track Day courses and must be alternated with a more traditional course that covers all the topics of safer riding. The following courses may be taken every 6 years, alternated with courses above for Levels ARC R Advanced Rider Course Recert (GWRRA) BBBRC Basic Bike Bonding Course (MSF) BRC 2 MSF License Waiver BRC 2SP Basic Rider Course 2 Skills Practice BRCGRP Basic Rider Course Small Group OHPSR Oklahoma Highway Patrol Safe Riders RLAP Ride Like a Pro (Jerry Palladino) SPCW Streetmasters Precision Cornering Workshop SSKLS John Delvecchio's Street Skills STRR MSF Street Rider Course (MSF) TRC R Trike Rider Course Recert (GWRRA) Co Riders may of course also take the Co Rider Seminar to maintain their levels. So, where do you find these classes? Texas Department of Public Safety has a comprehensive list of over 225 accredited riding course providers across Texas that include dealerships, colleges, and private providers as an interactive map at http:// www.dps.texas.gov/msb/traininglocations/. Many of the providers use the MSF or Total Control curriculum. If you are interested in specific GWRRA class offerings, there is a calendar of riding courses, modules, and seminars offered around the country at http://gwrradot.com/activities/. Be sure to check our Texas District Calendar http://www.gwrra-tx.org/calendar/ calendar.php It has just been revamped and in addition to all of the chapter events that are turned into us we will post all course offerings as they are scheduled. If there are specific courses or classes you are interested in taking, please contact me (txed@gwrra-tx.org) and we ll do our best to find instructors to put on a class near you, at an Education Weekend, or at the District Rally. Ride Coordinator This is my first article as the Ride Coordinator, and I am excited and looking forward to some great planned rides this year. If you missed the Chapter gathering this month, I plan to provide handouts with overviews of the upcoming rides for the month as well as talk about the previous month rides. I want to present some short discussions and overviews of riding as a group and what we should know to ride as a team. At our last meeting we had a guest visitor, Chris Fernihough, from Wise Honda in Decatur. He shared that his facility is a full-service Honda dealership and will also be hosting monthly rides the first Saturday of each month from April-October. These have been posted on our website. Vince Scott Ride Coordinator This time of the year is always a hit or miss with getting to ride and be with friends. Just because you may choose not to ride due to the temperature doesn t mean you can t still meet up if the ride hasn t been canceled. Our first ride of the year took us to The Green Pickle in Glen Rose, it was short ride and the temperature was right around 50 degrees. Not too bad. We had several riders and had some members that met up with us at the restaurant. The was a great little hole-in-the-wall serving gourmet hamburgers and sides. The fried green pickles were awesome. Our next ride is scheduled for January 26th to Roughnecks in Rio Vista weather permitting. If the temperature is around 50 degrees and no rain we will ride. I sent out email invitations from the Chapter-P website to all members that I have emails, if you did not get an invitation please let me know so I can get your corrected email. This will allow members to be invited to rides, get reminders notification and to be notified of ride changes. Please refer to the website for all ride and event information. Vince Scott
