(2/9) New Technologies for Next-generation Heavy-duty Trucks 1. Development of Two Types of New Engines for the Japanese Market Conforming to 2016 Emission Control 1 Newly developed 7.7 L 6S10 type engine The engine is equipped with a two-stage turbocharger to achieve high torque and high output for a small displacement in an ultralight body, which is sufficient for heavy-duty vehicles. In combination with the new BlueTec system, it realizes both low fuel consumption and low emission. Advanced combustion system for optimized fuel combustion Improved combustion chamber Two-stage turbocharger High-pressure common rail system Newly adopted system to achieve low fuel consumption and low emissions, enabling low emission pressure loss, and after-processing with a high NOx purification rate and precise AdBlue fuel injection control New BlueTec system (DPF [diesel particle filter] regeneration control + Urea SCR [Selective Catalytic Reduction]) New AdBlue fuel injection system Variable bulb-timing (at DPF regeneration) Idling stop and start system Operating mechanism of two-stage turbocharger

(4/9) 2 Newly developed 6R20 engine with 10.7 L displacement A cutting-edge engine featuring both lower fuel consumption and lower emission with lower displacement than the 6R10 type engine, by optimizing an asymmetric turbocharger and combining it with the new BlueTec system. Fuel combustion is optimized using an advanced combustion system Improved combustion chambers New asymmetric turbocharger New EGR valve Second-generation X-Pulse (booster-type common rail system) Low engine friction Newly adopted system to achieve low fuel consumption and low emissions, enabling low emission pressure loss, and after-processing with a high NOx purification rate and precise AdBlue fuel injection control New BlueTec system (DPF regeneration control + Urea SCR) New AdBlue fuel injection system Idling stop and start system

(6/9) 2. 12-Stage Mechanical Auto Transmission ShiftPilot Newly Developed The burden to the driver is mitigated by providing increased driver safety through easy driving by two pedals and smooth automatic transmission Enhanced shift feeling through shock mitigation Optimal tuning is provided for the new Super Grate to achieve a smoother transmission (shift feeling) compared with conventional models. Creep function is added By precisely controlling the half-clutch operation, a creep function similar to that available to a torque converter AT can be achieved. Operation at a slow speed will become easy, such as when driving in congested traffic congestion or using a vehicle with a platform. Hill holder function added to EZGO In addition to the EZGO (Easy Go: an auxiliary function for starting on an uphill gradient), a hill holder function has been added that makes it possible to maintain the force of the break for several seconds after releasing the pedal. This function is useful in starting on an uphill gradient that requires using the creep function. Locking free mode is added This mode increases the ability to move out from a muddy spot by turning off the creep function and expedites the disconnection action of the clutch. Name ShiftPilot Transmission Type G211-12 G230-12 Number of Gear Stages 12 gears forward, 2 reverse stages Gear Change Ratio 14.929/1.000 (direct coupling) 11.672/0.779 (OD) Newly developed AMT [automated manual transmission] (ShiftPlus)
(7/9) 3. AMB plus Mitsubishi FUSO s Active Mitigation Brake (AMB) has cleared the phase-2 regulation for collision avoidance systems which will be enforced in 2019 as an obligatory requirement. Collision damage is mitigated by an alarm and automatic braking when a hazard is sensed in case a vehicle ahead is running or stopping. 4. ABA4 Further refining AMB plus, ABA4 (Active Brake Assist 4) helps avoid a collision with a vehicle ahead that is stopping (a voidance is sometimes not possible and depends on conditions). Additionally, the risk of a collision with a pedestrian ( or pedestrians) will be mitigated (avoidance is sometimes not possible and depends on conditions). This function conforms to the phase-2 regulation for collision avoidance systems which will be enforced in 2019 as an obligatory requirement. ABA4 は歩行者にも対応!! 5. Active Attention Assist Active Attention Assist further reinforces the technology of the driving attention monitor in the conventional MDAS-III by additionally equipping it with an infrared camera system. A driver monitor camera captures the driver s face movement and motion, to monitor driver attention. Sensing a driver s eyes are off the road while driving and the motions of the eyelids, a lowering of driver attention is alerted to by a buzzer and display on the screen.
(8/9) 6. Active Sideguard Assist (First in Japan) This is a safety device that warns of a hazard hidden in the left blind spot. This spot, that will become a blind spot for a driver, is monitored by a radar and the driver is warned, while an alarm is sounded and a lamp gives warning when the left direction indicator is activated or during steering. 7. Proximity Control Assist Automatic stop and automatic start functions have been added to auto cruising that help to maintain a distance between vehicles going in the same direction. The new function will be especially useful in traffic congestion on an expressway. Its automatic stop and start function will mitigate driver fatigue and will keep rear-end collisions to a minimum. 8. 3-D Predictive Control of Power Train This system is designed to achieve low fuel consumption cruising by forecasting road inclination through GPS and 3-D map information during auto cruising. Optimal fuel injection control and gear step selection, and positive eco-roll control will avoid unnecessary fuel consumption, in order to improve fuel efficiency. This function will be useful especially on expressways with many uphill and downhill slopes.
