It is used for grinding or cutting dental casts and materials. The grinding body with mandrel is securely fastened in a collet. A lever system in the spindle is used to stop a quick-stop coupling, open the collet and replace the mandrel. The work area is illuminated by two high-intensity bulbs. A tinted eye-protection shield in front of the work area protects the operator from injury. The belt and pulleys are protected by a cover to protect the operator from contact with them during operation. Observe the information on dangers and the warnings in the section Owner s Manual. Instruct the user with this manual on the area of operation, the possible dangers during operation and the operation of the machine. This instruction manual must be accessible to the operator at all times. Instructions for operator 1. Installation and operation 1. Install the machine on strong, level workbench. 2. Makes sure that the mains voltage conforms to the voltage printed on the grinder name plate. 3. Adjust the safety shield for maximum eye protection. 4. Set both switches to the OFF position. 5. Plug in power plug. The Demco high-speed grinder is now ready for operation. 2. Operation 2.1 Controls (See Figure 1 and Figure 2) A Lever (coupling, brake, clamping lever) B Motor switch C Light switch D Collet E Safety shield F1 Motor fuse (2 pieces) F2 Light fuse 2.2 Replacing mandrels Set motor switch to OFF. Move lever slowly and smoothly from position A (Figure 3) to position B (Figure 4) to uncouple and brake the spindle and to open the collet. Remove mandrel, install new mandrel. Move lever back to position A to close the collet. Do not close the collet without a mandrel in place, otherwise the spindle will bind. Do not actuate brake too fast, otherwise the item being ground may come loose from the mandrel and cause unnecessary wear. The spindle only runs if a mandrel or other tool is positioned in the collet. 2.3 Adjusting collet If the mandrel is loose while the lever is in position A, the collet must be readjusted. Set motor switch to the OFF position. Move lever slowly and smoothly from position A (Figure 3) to position B (Figure 4) to uncouple and brake the spindle and to open the collet. Remove mandrel. Remove collet key from the lever (Figure 5). Rotate collet counterclockwise and remove it (Figure 6). Insert the hex wrench through the spindle nose. Change adjustment (Figure 7): - - loosen: tighten: counterclockwise clockwise Reinstall the collet and tighten it (the collet must be screwed in completely while the lever is in position B ). Replace collet key in lever. Install mandrel and close collet again (lever in position A ). If the collet does not close in this step, replacement of the collet may be necessary (see spare parts list). 2.4 Setting spindle speed The highest speed is always set on delivery. To set the grinder to low the speed: Set motor switch to the OFF position. Unplug power cord. Remove belt cover (Figure 8). Loosen hex wrench (Figure 9). Release belt tension by rotating the spindle (Figure 10). Remove drive belt. Install attached shorter low speed belt onto the outer motor and spindle pulleys. Tension drive belt by rotating the spindle. For the correct belt tension see Chap. 3.3. Tighten hex wrench. Replace belt cover. NEVER operate machine without the belt cover installed! 3. Cleaning and maintenance 3.1 Cleaning collet Daily: remove collet, clean grit off and apply a light film of oil. - Set motor switch to OFF position. - Move lever to position B. - Remove the collet key from the lever (Figure 5). - Rotate collet counterclockwise and remove it (Figure 6). - Clean and oil collet. - Replace collet and tighten it (the collet must be screwed in completely while the lever is in position B ). Apply a light film of oil to the collet only, do not oil any other part of the spindle! EN - 8 -
3.2 Drive belt replacement Set motor switch to the OFF position. Pull out power plug. Remove belt cover (Figure 8). Loosen hex wrench (Figure 9). Release tension by rotating the spindle (Figure 10). Replace drive belt. Tension drive belt by rotating the spindle. For the correct belt tension see Chap. 3.3. Tighten hex wrench again. Replace belt cover. NEVER operate machine without the belt cover installed! Use only original drive belts! 3.3 Tensioning belt Incorrect belt tension will cause premature wear of the drive belt, the pulleys and the bearings. Loosen hex wrench (Figure 9). Tension belt by rotating the spindle (Figure 10). Adjust belt tension so the belt can be moved approx. 8 mm up and down. Check the belt tension after operating a new belt for a short time, because new drive belts tend to stretch after operation. 3.5 Replacing fuses Set motor switch to the OFF position. Pull out power plug. Place grinder on one side. Loosen screws and remove bottom plate (Figure 11). Replace faulty fuse (Figure 12): - F1: motor fuses (2 pieces) F2: light fuse - When replacing fuses, only use fuses with the same rating as the original. Refer to the Technical Specifications section. NEVER use fuses with a higher rating! Reinstall the bottom plate. 4. Spare parts See the attached spare parts list for the spare parts numbers. 5. Scope of delivery 1 Demco high-speed grinder 1 drive belt (short, for low speed) 1 instruction manual 1 spare parts list 3.4 Replacing bulbs Before replacing bulbs set the light switch to the OFF position. Use only original bulbs, see spare parts list. Installation of incorrect bulbs may destroy the 24V transformer! - 9 - EN
