Hudson Fire Protection District 2017 Report
Hudson Fire Protection District
The Mission of the Hudson Fire Protection District is to aggressively and safely protect life, property, and the environment by providing excellence in emergency services, training, and prevention. 2017 Summary - Staffing gaps created by budget shortfalls in 2016 were filled by hiring Aaron Baker and Matt Bradley in January of 2017; this returned the department to full staffing levels in both Hudson and Lochbuie. - All firefighters completed Driver-Operator training, and the department promoted Trevor Kecskes and Doug Myers to the position of Engineer. - All career officers completed Blue Card training and certification. Blue Card is a command and communications program developed by former Phoenix Fire Chief Alan Brunacini. Implementing this system has improved the efficiency and safety of our emergency operations. Half of the career firefighters have also completed the training, and the volunteer officers and the rest of the career firefighters will be trained early next year. - In 2017 the department documented 5,430 hours of training participation. In addition to Driver- Operator and Blue Card, firefighters pursued advanced education and certification in Ice Rescue, CPR Instructor, Fire Investigator, Fire Instructor, and Fire Officer. Two crews participated in an extensive multi-agency drill at DIA which simulated an airplane crash. - Justin Hindman, Doug Myers, and Rodney Mullis created a Fire & Arson Investigation Program for the department. - HFPD took delivery of a new 4,000 gallon tender by Midwest. The department also received a grant to purchase CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles. We received 2 Command vehicles and a pickup truck. - New Scott SCBA Air Packs were purchased. This equipment included Scott s latest innovation each mask incorporates a Thermal Imaging Camera, equipping each firefighter with a hands-free heads-up display of the infrared energy (heat) in front of them. This system allows them to operate better in dark or smoky environments. - The department installed MagneGrip exhaust removal systems at Station 1 and Station 3. These systems connect to the tailpipes of apparatus and remove hazardous exhaust emissions from the station bays, decreasing firefighter exposure to cancer-causing gases and contaminants in the station. - Additional concrete was poured to extend the driveway at Station 3. This keeps the facility cleaner during inclement water, and provides a better area for crews to train.
