TRANSIT INFORMATION GO East Clarington On June 20, 2016 the Ontario Government and Metrolinx announced the extension of the GO Transit Lakeshore East Corridor by 20 kilometres, with two new stations each in Oshawa and Clarington. The new GO rail service is expected to begin between 2023 to 2024. The extension will provide our community with more transit options and also serve as a catalyst for economic investment and as a result a growing workforce. Through Metrolinx, Ontario's regional transportation authority for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, the Province is working with CP rail on infrastructure and service planning for the extension. A portion of the proposed extension in Clarington will use CP Rail's existing corridor north of Highway 401 and will involve building an overpass over the highway. The Municipality of Clarington has long advocated for the GO Train extension. Clarington Council has taken some key steps to making a sound economic case for this crucial infrastructure investment. An independent economic impact study was released in April 2016. It showed the potential for $1.1 billion in investment that would be generated by the GO Lakeshore East extension. The study was financed by Durham Learning and Business District (dlab), a partnership between Durham College, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Trent University Durham, River Oaks Group and Halloway Developments Ltd.; the Municipality of Clarington; the City of Oshawa; the Municipality of Port Hope; the Town of Cobourg; Northumberland County; and Halminen Homes. Transportation Hubs In anticipation of the GO extension, Clarington is now working with a consultant to develop a high level vision for the two transportation hubs around the future Courtice and Bowmanville GO Stations. The Municipality wants to ensure that development around the proposed GO stations is adequately planned, so these stations are more than just train stations, they also become destinations.
Bowmanville Bowmanville is a community of about 40,000 people located in the municipality of Clarington, Ontario, Canada. It is approximately 75 km east of Toronto, and 15 km east of Oshawa along Highway 2. Bowmanville was first incorporated as a town in 1858, but later incorporated with the neighbouring townships of Clarke and Darlington in 1974 forming Clarington. It is part of the Greater Toronto Area. Bowmanville is home to the historic Bowmanville Foundry, the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, Goodyear conveyor belt factory (recently sold). There is a marina on Lake Ontario at Port Darlington, south of town. Bowmanville was a finalist for the ITER project. Southern Ontario's GO Train light rail service is to be expanded to Bowmanville shortly. This will increase the efficiency of public transportation to nearby cities such as Oshawa, and beyond. Currently, Darlington Nuclear Generating Station is the largest employer in Bowmanville. Nowadays, Bowmanville is a modern town within relative proximity to Toronto. During the summer, Cedar Park Resort has a waterpark that provides hours of family fun.
