Reducing road accidents with technologically innovative solutions on infrastructure - COPS@road Peter Korun - COPS Systems peter.korun@cops-systems.com

Statistics: Road safety The EU has the safest roads in the world, yet 70 people still die every day. (V. Bulc) More than 1.2 million people die on the world s roads every year. That is 3500 lives every single day. This loss of life is preventable and unaccaptable (J. Todt) In EU in 2017 more than half (55 %) of road fatalities happed on rural roads. In more than 90 %, the cause of a car accident is a human factor. Disregarding rules of priority is the second most common cause for accidents. Technological progress: Automotive industry - big Transport infrastructure - smaller Mission of our company COPS systems d.o.o.: Reduction of traffic accidents with technological innovative approach to infrastructure. INTERREG Sustainable transport initiatives Ulf Wikström (INTERACT) with Silke Brocks

Interreg: 10 bn EUR for 2014-2020 for cross-border and territorial cooperation in the fields of transport, innovation, ICT, environment, climate change, migration. ~100 Interreg programmes all over Europe TEN-T: investment needs for 2021-2027 estimated at 700 bn EUR Focus on cross-border connections, removing bottlenecks and missing links

INTERREG makes a difference for the realisation of the TEN-T corridors by joining forces between INTERREG and TEN-T Corridors, creating synergies, working together for win-win solutions and breaking down silos! Possible synergies: Bringing key stakeholders together, facilitating cross-border dialogues Alignment and harmonisation of planning procedures Assistance during the preparation phase of projects, using existing networks anchored in the regions Multiplier of wider corridor effects: corridors as a development zone for growth and jobs Test bed for innovative transport policies and pilot initiatives Alignment of European policies and work across funds Come to joint understanding of cross-border issues Develop a joint integrated vision for the regions Show the benefits of better connectivity to European citizens
