1992-1993 Toyota Celica Short Throw Shift Kit Installation Manual (Metal Assembly) Page 1 1. Remove shift knob and plastic cover from shift assembly. 2. Remove the three nuts holding the top part of the assembly and their respective bolts.
Page 2 3. Remove the two clips holding the shifter to the shift linkage rods. 4. Remove the two bolts on the upper part of the assembly. Then slide the two pins out of their holes, this will separate the white section and the shifter from the assembly.
Page 3 5. Pop the shifter out of the large white cup. This step may require a fair amount of strength. Step 6: Use the cup remover tool included with the kit to remove both plastic cups on the original shifter. To do so, place the cup remover tool on top of the open jaws of a vice, the jaws should be approximately 1 apart. Hang the shifter from the tool as shown, be sure the shifter is inserted completely into the slot in the tool. Insert a punch into the center hole through the plastic cup and tap firmly with a hammer to separate the original shifter from cup. Repeat for 2nd cup.
Page 4 7. Put the cups on the TWM shifter, be sure to grease the two smaller balls as well as the main pivot ball. Then pop the large white cup back on. 8. Re-assemble the upper part of the assembly, see step 4. The piece pictured is not necessary and can be removed.
Page 5 9. Place the spacers provided between the upper and lower parts of the assembly. Note: This may be easier if the bolt is threaded from the top down (opposite of what is pictured). To help in getting the nut threaded on to the underside you can use some grease to help stick it to your finger. 10. Re-attach the two clips that connect the shifter to the shift linkage rods and replace the plastic cover and boot. Now you are ready to drive.
