Gary & Susan Premech, Chapter AB-A Directors Hello everyone, W ell we hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we ve have been having and putting a lot of miles on your bikes. For those of us that are still working we are envious of those that can go for a ride during the week. It almost makes us want to take a sick or even a mental health day. We recently had our first riding course, the Road Captains Course, which had 14 members attend. The best way to better your new skill is to practice and lead small groups on our Sunday rides or whenever you go for a group ride. You could take turns during a ride so every new Road Captain can keen their skills. Kim has secured a facility for our first ARC of the year and will have the details out to all members wishing to take the course. We had another successful Bunko night with 43 members attending and having an enjoyable evening. Big thanks to Ron Syroishka and Bob Van Nes for putting on this event as well as a special thanks to Barry & Marie Lammle for hosting the event once again at their office facility. Our first weekend rides are coming up on the long weekend and a number of members will be enjoying these organized rides. Everyone please enjoy, ride safe, and we all look forward to hearing your stories or reading them in the newsletter. Wing Wag May 2016 Page 2 Brian Hooker and Stu Hartt accepted the High Mileage Challenge plaque as 1st and 2nd place finishers. 3rd place Colin O Brien was not in attendance this night. Barry Shaw won the door prize of a DIY Amsoil oil change donated by Brian Perrin. Notes: Assistant Chapter Director, D Arcy Leslie has resigned from his position due to work constraints. We want to thank D Arcy for all his work and hope he will continue to attend meetings and activities as much as work obligations allow. The Distance Challenge will be modified slightly to allow members to report all the distance they have travelled on a motorcycle during the year. If more than one bike is owned, or if motorcycles are rented on vacation, the starting and ending odometer readings must be submitted, clearly defining whether in miles or kilometers. No calculations of distance or conversion (i.e. from miles to kilometers) will be accepted. Ron Syroishka reminded members that there are still small antenna Chapter Flags available for purchase and to contact him if anyone is interested. Ron Syroishka has been approached by the organizers of the Banff Gran Fondo bicycle race for assistance with supporting the participants of the race once again. This has been a rewarding activity for members in the past. If you are interested in participating in this activity please let Ron know. Tracy Boyda advised us that our chapter is being asked to provide people to assist with security at the venue and parades for Wing Ding this year. If this is of interest to you please let Tracy know of your willingness to help. Ken Braun, our Quartermaster, has Name tags and shirts for those who ordered them. James Tremblay has planned a ride to Wing Ding and would welcome other members if they were interested in traveling with him. Canonball 500 ride is June 11th. There are multiple rides in Alberta and is a good excuse to get out for a ride. Check it out at http://cannonballrides.ca/

Wing Wag May 2016 Page 3 Pat Williams, Region J Director W ow, where has the time gone? It is the end of April already? According to the calendar, yes it is. With all the wonderful warm weather we ve been having, I m sure everyone has their bikes licensed and have been out for a few rides by now. I know I ve been out almost every day for a few hours for the past couple weeks. What fun! I ve been preparing/ practicing for my road test in early May as well as the Trike Course on May 1st. Registrations for the Region J Rally are starting to come in, but so far the numbers are disappointing. If you are planning to come to the rally, please consider registering early so that we can complete our organizing process. The rally team has been hard at work setting up everything and we would like to make this rally a very successful one. Remember, the rally is the only way the region can raise funds to put on training sessions for our members. As for Wing Ding 38, as of Apr 18, there were a total of 1,462 total registered. 202 of those are from Region J. That s almost 14% of total registrations. The breakdown for chapters with 10 or more is as follows: 6. AB-C 19 14. SK-D 15 16. BC-D 14 25. AB-L 10 Note: The 3 rd place chapter is MT-B with 21. That s the Billings chapter. WE ROCKI!! Way to go Region J! As for the Region J rally, if you are planning on going to WingDing 38, please consider registering soon. On another topic for Wing Ding 38, I mentioned in a previous article that Region J has been voluntold to provide security for the trade show. This basically means standing at the trade show entrance doors and ensuring that everyone who enters is wearing their arm bands. We re waiting to find out how many doors are involved and the hours that the trade show is open. That will tell us how many people we need to man the doors. I should be able to have that information after a conference call on Monday night. I will be posting an on-line schedule for each volunteer to fill in. We want to get as many people to volunteer so that no one has to be there for more than 3 hours at a stretch. For volunteering, you get a special volunteer pin and an invitation to attend the ice cream party. Rank Chapter Registered 1. AB-A 56 2. AB-B 38 Pat Williams Region J Director

Wing Wag May 2016 Page 12 Congratulations to Jim and Dorothy Baker who have been selected as our Chapter AB-A Couple of the Year for 2016. Jim and Dorothy have had many challenges since their accident in August of 2014 (read about it in September 2014 Wing Wag Montana Idaho Ride). They have remained dedicated and active with our Chapter, attending meetings and other activities, while they recovered until they were able to get back to riding. They have served in various positions in our chapter including as Directors and are an inspiration to us all.
