Directors Corner Feb 2017 Welcome back to the! We hope everyone is looking forward to the upcoming riding season. The weather seems to have stalled slightly, with the occasional tease of warm weather for a couple days in February. We know a few of you were out on the road with your bike. Please remember that this time of the year, the roads are still covered with sand and could have slick spots. At our February 12 Gathering, we had a large appearance of members arrive for the American Legion Post 51 monthly breakfast, despite the lousy snow storm underway. The Legion were very happy we could attend and contribute to the fun times and delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we officially appointed Russell and Cassandra Powers for Assistant Chapter Directors (ACD), and Christine Davidson as the Chapter Treasurer. We look forward to a great 2017 with our growing Chapter and welcome any volunteers for two critical Chapter positions (1) Chapter Educator and (2) Newsletter Editor. At the February Gathering, there were many ideas and suggestions for filling in our 2017 Calendar including destinations that involve waterfalls in Maine, scenic tour riding in Northern New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts, fundraiser events, and much more. We look forward to adapting our suggestive rides on the NH District calendar. Planning forward - On June 3, 2017, Menard Motorsports will be sponsoring the 2017 NH-T Open House to be held in Brentwood, NH. The events of the day include various group rides, entertainment, and a raffle. All motorcyclists and guests are invited to attend; please stay tuned as details will be announced during our monthly Gatherings, as well as on the NH District calendar. NH-T will be planning a lot of ride and events this year. Be sure to check back on the website and in upcoming newsletter for more information. From the desk of the Assistant Chapter Directors We are getting excited about riding this year with the Chapter. Even though it's only the first of March, more snow may fall this month. Although, we are hoping the temperatures continue like they were last Saturday and the first of March, both upper 60s. We are ready to ride but our trike is not now. The Trike is in the garage collecting dust, just sitting and waiting for my attention to get it prepared for the riding season. Yes, I am taking about preventive & scheduled maintenance. Even though the Gold Wing is a well-built machine, it still needs some TLC to give you a smile for many miles. You may not own a Gold Wing, but whatever you ride, make sure to take time to look over the owner's manual for what needs to be done. Remember that an ounce of prevention will give you many miles of carefree and safe riding. Along with the bike (2-wheeled or trike), take some time to inspect your riding equipment/gear, specifically helmets, jackets, boots, gloves, helmet headsets, and so on. Over time, these items will show signs of wear and should be replaced if necessary. Helmets have a shelf life that is typically 5 years, so please be aware and replace when necessary. Helmets can easily be replaced; your head cannot. Also, check the condition of your eyewear. If you are like me, I have Rx glasses and every year or two need to replace due to a newer prescription by the optometrist. Please consider Safety as first and foremost when it comes to your riding equipment. Now is the time to begin with your preventive maintenance of the bike and equipment rather than when riding season has started. This way you will be better prepared and able to hit the road when riding begins. Don't forget to verify your motorcycle insurance and registration is current. On June 3, Menard Motorsports is sponsoring NH-T s Annual Open House and fundraiser event. Menard Motorsports' suggest holding off on your NH State Inspection sticker until the Open House. For every State Inspection completed by Menard Motorsports, Shawn will contribute to NH-T with a donation per Inspection. More details about the open house/fundraising event will be forthcoming. Keep thinking Springtime and it'll be here faster than you expect!! Happy and Safe riding everyone. Russ and Cassandra Powers NH-T Assistant Chapter Directors

A Word from the Treasurer, by Christine Davidson I started riding motorcycles in 1997 on a 1980 Honda 400. I spent the summer riding local backroads taking a course with Jerry Lotto and receiving my license. In the meantime, I met people who rode Goldwing s and with some encouragement, the following Spring I happened on to a 1986 1200 CC Goldwing that had my name all over it. Undaunted as I was, I spend the next two terrifying weeks riding it and wondering if I had made the right decision. By the end of the summer, the bike was more like a toy than a monster. In 2001, I upgraded to a 1500 which is the same Goldwing I ride today. Riding has been a passion of mine since childhood and when I was 12 my parents bought me my first horse. Thus, my riding career started in the many disciplines of riding. Throughout my teenage years, I showed my own horses as well as others. As an adult, I purchased a Morgan Colt and trained him in English and Western riding, as well as trained him to pull a 2-wheel gig and a 4-wheeled buggy. The winter was enjoyable when I hitched him to a sleigh I had. In the mid-1980s, I became a Co-District Commissioner of the Ponkapoag Pony Club in Milton Massachusetts where I lived and brought up my family. My horse lived to be 19 years of age before I had to put him down because he had developed a Cancer. This is when I moved from riding horseback to riding the iron horse. As a member of GWRRA since 2001, I have traveled as far west as Madison Wisconsin, South to the Carolinas, and north to the eastern part of Canada. I love the freedom, interesting places to explore, and good people you meet along the way. My heart will belong to the open road for as long as I am able to ride. Christine Davidson NH-T Treasurer
