NOTE: Most of these noises occur during normal driving. Some occur only at certain minimum driving speeds or over certain road surfaces. Ask the customer to describe the driving conditions surrounding each noise. PARTS INFORMATION The following special materials are available through normal ordering channels. Squeaks Around the Instrument Panel 2. Pull the meter case towards you, and apply the 10 mm EPT tape behind the wire harness stays on each side. Symptom: Creaking from behind the instrument panel when driving over rough roads. Probable Cause: Friction between the bulkhead and the stays on the instrument panel wire harness. 1. Remove the meter assembly. METER ASSEMBLY METER CASE 10 mm EPT SEALER 3. Reinstall the meter case and the meter assembly. Squeaks Around the Instrument Panel Visor Symptom: Creaking from the instrument panel visor area. Probable Cause: Loose screws between the instrument panel visor and the dashboard. Insulate the dashboard behind the instrument panel visor. 1. Remove the instrument panel visor. INSTRUMENT PANEL VISOR Rattles at the Glove Box Symptom: The glove box door rattles when driving. Probable Causes: The instrument panel has been deformed by the rubber cushion on the glove box door, and the latch mechanism is vibrating. 1. Apply the 1 mm felt wool to the dashboard at the contact points between the rubber cushions and the instrument panel. GLOVE BOX VISOR Front of car FELT WOOL FELT WOOL Remove trim. Left Right 2. Apply the 1 mm felt wool to the instrument panel visor and the dashboard. NOTE: The instrument panel visor extends farther out on the left side than it does on the right. Check contact areas carefully before applying the felt wool. 3. Reinstall the instrument panel visor, and tighten the screws securely. 2. Remove the glove box lid trim. 3. Apply grease to the latch surface. Apply grease. Rattles in the Dashboard Vents Symptom: Rattles from the dashboard vents during acceleration. Probable Cause: Vibration in the evaporator line cover. Wrap the plastic cover with a nylon tie. Rattles Behind the Driver Knee Side Bolster Symptom: Rattles behind the driver side bolster when driving over bumps. 2. Put rubber tubing over the stud on the knee bolster. STUD RUBBER TUBING Probable Cause: Contact between a stud on the knee bolster and the dashboard brace. 1. Remove the lower dash cover and the knee bolster. 3. Rattles at the Lower Steering Column Wrap a nylon wire tie around the SRS wire harness and the dashboard wire harness. Symptom: Rattle from the lower steering column area when driving over rough roads. Probable Cause: The SRS wire harness is contacting the steering column only during the vibration caused by driving over rough roads. FRONT DOOR Rattles at the Door Lock Knob Symptom: The lock knob rattles during driving. Probable Cause: The felt pad that holds the lock rod has fallen off. 1. Remove the door panel, and glue the felt pad back in place. DOOR PANEL FRONT DOOR Rattles at the Door Handle Symptom: Rattles from the door handle area of the door lining. Probable Cause: The door handle trim plate is loose. 1. Remove the door handle trim plate, and apply two 10 mm strips of 3 mm EPT sealer to the back. DOOR HANDLE FELT PAD Glue in place. DOOR LOCK KNOB 3 mm EPT SEALER Pry the trim plate out using a flat-tip screwdriver. LOCK ROD 2. Reinstall the door panel. Operation number: 815040 Failed P/N: 72673-SL4-003 2. Reinstall the door handle trim plate. Operation number: 818020 Failed P/N: 72160-SL5-A01 7 of 13

FRONT DOOR Rattles at the Door Lining Symptom: Rattles from the lower door lining area. 2. Apply 3 mm EPT sealer between the inner door skin and the wire harness stay. 3 mm EPT SEALER Probable Cause: Interference in two locations: Between the door panel and the wire harness stay Between the door counterweight and the wire harness coupler 1. Remove the door panel. WIRE HARNESS STAY 3. Pull back the clear plastic wheel housing cover at the lower outside corner. Reach up through the opening, and apply 3 mm EPT sealer between the wire harness connector and the inside surface of the clear plastic wheel housing cover. FRONT DOOR Squeaks at the Door Symptom: Creaking from the door when the car accelerates or decelerates. Probable Cause: Interference between the body and the door checker bracket. 2. Protect the door checker bracket with a block of wood; then hit the wood with a hammer to apply pressure to the bracket. Remove pin. 1. Remove the pin from the door checker bracket, and open the door fully. DOOR CHECKER BRACKET LOCATION DOOR CHECKER BRACKET 3. Check for interference and, if necessary, repeat step 2 until the noise is silenced. 4. Apply lithium grease to the area. 5. Replace the pin in the door checker bracket, and test the door for quiet operation. Operation number: 818000 Flat rate time: 0.1 hour Failed P/N: 72340-SL5-003 Defect code: 042 9 of 13

ROOF Squeaks at the Headliner Symptom: The headliner creaks when driving over rough roads. Probable Cause: Friction at two locations: The fiber washer at the headliner, by the grab rail, is deformed. The wire harness clamp at the sunroof rubs against the headliner. CorrectIve Action: Insulate the wire harness clamp area between the roof and the headliner. 1. Remove the fiber washer at the headliner. HEADLINER LOCATION 4. Lower the headliner slightly and apply 3 mm EPT sealer as shown. WIRE HARNESS CLAMP HEADLINER 3mm EPT SEALER 2. Remove the fiber washers from the grab rail screws. 3. Remove the sunroof trim, door trim, and side trim up to the B-pillar. 5. Reinstall all parts. ROOF Squeaks From the Grab Handle 2. Apply grease to the sliding surfaces. Symptom: The grab handle creaks when used. Probable Cause: Insufficient lubrication of the sliding surfaces. SLIDING SURFACES SLIDING SURFACES GRAB HANDLE LOCATION 1. Remove and disassemble the grab handle. 3. Reinstall the grab handle. 4. Test the grab handle for quiet operation and stability. HOOD Rattles at the Hood 2. Wedge a shop towel between the hinge plates, and test drive the car again. Symptom: The hood rattles when driving over bumps. Probable Cause: Loose-fitting hood hinge pin(s). 1. Test drive the car, and determine which side of the hood is rattling. HOOD HINGE HOOD HINGE LOCATIONS 3. Verify that the rattle is gone, and replace the hood hinge. 4. After replacing the hinge, check the alignment of the hood. Operation number: 812010 Failed P/N: 60120-SL5-A00ZZ 12 of 13

REAR SEAT Squeaks at the Rear Seat Back 3. Remove the bottom stiffener, and apply a 90 X 200 mm piece of melt sheet between the bottom stiffener and the floor. Symptom: Creak from behind the rear seat back. Probable Cause: Interference between the rear bulkhead and the rear floor area. Apply melt sheet between the bottom stiffener and the floor. 1. Remove the rear seat back and cushion. REAR SEAT BACK MELT SHEET BOTTOM STIFFENER 4. Reinstall all parts. 2. Remove the stiffener panel on each side.
